The first part of changing the slam panel to tube is done. Got it mostly bent into shape now to make the end mounting plates and some angular bits to go down to the chassis legs for strength.

Then just to add the tabs to bolt the lights and bonnets pins to and mounts for the top of the radiator none of which should be too much work.

Not bad for just a quick session on the car.

Will give so much more space and enables me to move the radiator forwards giving more space for some ducting.

Couple of updates in the Underhill Racing Focus st170 Turbo race car project.

It’s now ready for what we are hoping is its final mapping session on Friday.

The new WOSP - WOSPerformance alternator is fitted with our own custom brackets.

The rear wing has been mounted with the final mounting design.

So fingers crossed after Friday it will be ready for its first proper track/race outing in July for 2024.

The wing kits and alternator kits will be added to the website soon and can then be ordered.

We are pleased to announce that our zetec/st170/ adjustable lightweight alternator bracket design is finalised.

We have gone through a few iterations to make it as good as we can and after today trial fit we are happy with it and the amount of adjustment it gives to easily get the drive belt on and tightened up.

Hopefully will have prices finalised later this week/early next and will put them on the website for pre orders.

The next job is to check it with an OEM alternator and tweak the design for that so we can offer both kits.

Finally had chance to bend up the focus mk1 rear wing brackets.

As always on the first prototype some minor tweaks and a design update planned but it’s resting in place.

Certainly changes the look of the car but it’s their for function not for looks.

Our new zetec/st170 lightweight alternator set up is coming on.

We had the first prototype in metal finished today. It wasn’t quite right, it fitted but had the alternator on a slight angle, so abit of modifying and it’s now fitting how we wanted.

So a tweak to the model a 3d print before getting a second metal one done to the modified geometry and then they will be available for sale.

As you can see it gives plenty of clearance to the inlet so should work with all set ups.

Will also be checking fitment with a standard alternator so it can work with both options.

After a few alternator and belt issues we have suffered on the Underhill Racing Ford Focus we have decided to go for a WOSP - WOSPerformance alternator and custom mounting bracket.

The bracket consists of a main mounting point and a tensioning arm to enable easy fitment and tensioning of the drive belt. something which was proving awkward with the standard alternator and mounting as we dont have any other pulleys in the set up.
it will also provide more clearance to the inlet manifold something we struggled with when fitting a different one recently.

So we have come up with this set up which should work well.
we have the Prototype bracket currently being 3D printed ready for the alternator and pulley to arrive early next week. if all goes well these will be available either as a full kit including the alternator or just the bracket.

Note the model on the engine isnt perfect as its not a totally correct zetec engine model so is for demonstration only.

The Focus st170 Turbo we have built for Underhill Racing on its most recent out at castle Combe.

It wasn’t a successful outing with various mechanical gremlins but it was the first time out so bound to be some issues.

We are looking into opening a new expanded business unit, But for that to happen we will need someone to come on board and be the main mechanic and workshop manager. They can then get involved in designing the new layout.
(if we cannot find the right person then the chance is this will not happen)

The job will be located in Poole, Dorset. so you must either live locally, be willing to commute each day or relocate to the area.

This is a unique opportunity for someone that has a passion for cars and can undertake all types of jobs, not just fitting parts.
Obviously there will be motorsport elements such as build and preparing track and race cars as well as road cars and general maintenance.
you must be willing to learn new skills, as it will be a multi functional workshop including the following in addition to the normal car mechanics:
CNC machining
Manual Machining
Welding (steel, stainless steel, aluminium and Titanium.
Fabrication
CAD
Product Design

Any of these are desirable but not essential, provided there is a willingness to learn and grow with us.

It would be a full time employed role, however we could look at self employed options if this is desirable to you, but would be on a full time contract.

Ford Focus MK1 Rear Wing Update

We have been working hard with a supplier to make our Rear Wing Concept a reality.

We are now happy to announce a final design has been settled on, and production on the first item is underway.

Here are the CAD images with a proper shaped rear wing profile, a nicely shaped end plate with aluminium brackets powder coated in satin black.

These will be available in Fibreglass, Hand Laid Carbon or Vacuum infused Carbon Wing options.

With the engine blowing up on the Underhill Racing Ford Focus ST170 with a Forged 300BHP NA engine at Silverstone a few weeks ago they have decided to replace it with a Zetec Turbo based on the ST170 engine to keep the VVT for maximum power under the graph..

We have been tasked with designing an inlet manifold and exhaust manifold which we will use our extensive manufacturing network to manufacture.

This is what we have come up with so far on the inlet. we need to do some CFD analysis before we get a prototype made and do some flow bench testing on a physical item.

If it works well (if needed we will tweak the design to make sure it does) these will be available to purchase once fully proven.

The full inlet manifold has been designed from scratch only bits downloaded are the injectors and the Engine Model (which is actually based on a Silvertop Zetec but ignore that lol)

Looking forward to turning these into reality along with the full Underhill Racing Ford Focus ST170 Race car with a full new power plant.
