Out into the desert 25 miles south of Las Vegas and first sunrise of my trip done! Time to hit the road!

The classic view from Hatchet pond in the New Forest. I realised when I got home that this would have looked quite cool if I’d done a long exposure to capture the cloud movement! Next time!

28/08/2024

Someone messaged me about a photo I took at Hatchet Pond a while ago and it got me thinking! I don’t get over that side of the forest as often as I should so that’s what we did. While the sunrise was nothing to write home about it was a lovely morning to be out there and watch the world wake up and there were some great clouds and still a hint of heather!

I don’t tend to do many of these as they take waaaay too long but as I was out the other night trying to capture the Perseids meteor shower I thought I’d give it a go. 315x20sec images taken over 1 3/4 hours and then stacked showing the rotation of our planet!

Photos from Andrew Wells Photography's post 19/08/2024

As today is world photography day I was going to mark the occasion by sharing a couple of my favourite photos I’ve taken over the years but just couldn’t decide so here’s something a little different. My photography journey began back in 2012 when my main interest was creative studio photography and light painting.
Over the coming years I took on a photo a day project taking a photo every day for 3 years!
Some of the most challenging times but also some in which I learned so much! So here’s 1096 (one of them was a leap year!) of my favourite photos!

If I’m honest, despite the near cloudless skies last night I knew before I set off that my plan wasn’t going to work out but ever the optimist I went anyway!
The smoke from the wild fires in Canada has finally reached our shores and obliterated any chance of seeing the moon rise but I turned around to see the sun disappearing behind the smoke making it possible to capture this without any filters. WARNING… In normal circumstances you should never point your camera directly at the sun without a solar filter.

Apologies for the lack of content recently as between work, rubbish weather and planning for my up coming trip I’ve just not got out with the camera.
I did head out to what appears to be my go to location for any astronomical event on Sunday night/ Monday morning to watch the Perseid Meteor shower and despite being really clear and seeing lots I only caught a few on camera.

I think Facebook’s done something with its algorithms as my previous photo of the heather in the New Forest didn’t get anywhere near the reach that I thought it would? Did you see it? Please let me know if you see this one by dropping a like, share or comment and don’t forget to follow my page if you like what you see to ensure you don’t miss anything in the future. Thank you

As blue hour gave way to golden hour the mist continued to build and at 6.09am (half an hour after sun rise) this was the scene that played out in front of me! Simply the best conditions I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in this location. I guess summers not so bad after all!
Which one’s your favourite? Blue hour or golden hour?

05/08/2024

5.52am and by the time the sun appeared from behind the tree line and blue hour started to turn to golden hour the mist was really building, obscuring the valley below and starting to look like the sea was rolling in but just wait until you see what happened 20 mins later!
This is a 9 shot vertical panorama which looks much better if you turn your phone sideways.
Have a great week!

One month today I’ll be heading away on my annual South West America road trip and although there wont be an eclipse this year I have some pretty special adventures lined up. So join me as I drive across Nevada, Arizona and Utah and hopefully see some more sights like this one from last year along the way!

03/08/2024

5.28am and with just 10 mins to go before sunrise, the mist in the shallow valley below really started to build, I knew this was going to be something special!

02/08/2024

An amazing morning in the New Forest this morning with a completely unexpected bonus of mist! Blue hour at about 5am, 40 mins before sunrise and the mist hanging in the valley but just wait until you see what unfurled over the following hour!

This formation has now been harvested by the farmer but I was lucky enough to capture it in all its glory under some stunning early morning light last week.

26/07/2024

It’s not often these appear down here in Dorset but the little green men have been hard at work so I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to go and see for myself! 👽

25/07/2024

Show me a landscape photographer who doesn’t love a lone tree! Gifted with some very dramatic light on this one from the campsite at Silverstone the other week!

21/07/2024

After the clear skies on Friday yesterday was unfortunately the complete opposite so my plan for the full moon will just have to wait! In the meantime here’s a flashback to the full moon of July 2022 rising over the Needles on the Isle of Wight

20/07/2024

I love it when a plan comes together! This one’s been in the pipeline for a few years just waiting for the stars to align letting me capture the near full moon over Horton Tower through this very small gap in the trees.

It would appear that I still have a few poppy photos I can share so due to popular demand here’s another one from Dorsets most famous field of the last few weeks!

18/07/2024

It’s that time of year when the blackberry bushes are starting to burst into life so while out with the dog I recreated a similar shot that I did last year to show the transformation into that delicious summer fruit!

17/07/2024

Last one (I promise) from Dorsets not so secret poppy field. This was 1/2 hr before sunrise with a beautiful pre dawn glow and a touch of mist under cloudless skies.

16/07/2024

Leaving the poppies for a moment and back to the British Grand Prix and Lando Norris was very unlucky to be beaten to second place with a badly timed pit stop. I really enjoyed the challenge of capturing these incredible machines. It’s not so much their speed, more the almost instant change of direction!

15/07/2024

At 4am the following morning I was back again to cloudless skies and a beautiful pre dawn glow with a hint of mist adding to the atmosphere.

14/07/2024

I spent all night watching the big match and I still don’t know if it’s coming home?

14/07/2024

My second visit to the o***m poppies was later the same day for sunset. The sunset was actually happening over my left shoulder here but the leading lines and stormy skies rather caught my attention.
Please don’t ask where this is, if you know you know. I spend a lot of time and effort finding some of the locations I photograph and others are quite easy! It’s all part of achieving that final image.
I’m not gatekeeping as I’ve been accused of, simply protecting the integrity of the location and the livelihood of the farmer.
If you want to find these places, put the effort in, go and have a look around our amazing countryside, you never know what you might come across!

12/07/2024

I visited Dorsets o***m poppy fields 3 times in a couple of days this week and it was amazing to see it at different times of day under different lighting conditions. It reminded me that just because you’ve photographed somewhere once doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go back time and time again! This was the first visit when I went to scope it out so just taken on the phone under some pretty stormy skies which seems to be par for the course this summer!

After claiming Pole position on Saturday George Russell was in a good place to win his second in a row but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be this time!

09/07/2024

I just spent the weekend at Silverstone watching the British F1 Grand Prix. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on winning for a record 9th time at Silverstone and his first win since 2021!
I walked over 35 miles this weekend and the photography was at a slightly faster pace than what I’m used to!
