Don't forget, we have something new coming very soon๐
Unstable angina pectoris, one of several acute coronary syndromes, causes unexpected chest pain and usually occurs while resting. The most common cause is reduced blood flow to the heart muscle due to plaque rupture in the coronary arteries. This results in platelet aggregation (thrombus formation), partially blocking the artery.
In the West we normally view the standardised extract of the leaf of Ginkgo biloba as a treatment for the brain or peripheral circulation. However in China, clinical trials have demonstrated the benefits of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) for patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP). A recent systematic review and network meta-analysis examined this clinical data.
The study included literature from eight databases from inception to November 2023. It included UAP patients, with the control group receiving conventional treatment and the treatment group receiving different GBE preparations in addition to conventional treatment. Angina efficacy, electrocardiogram (ECG) improvement, and frequency of angina episodes were chosen as outcomes. This study employed a systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis, and the surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) curve was used for estimating the efficacy ranking.
An impressive total of 98 studies involving 9513 patients and 9 interventions were included. Compared with conventional treatment, GBE preparations combined with conventional treatment demonstrated better efficacy in angina symptoms and ECG improvement. According to the SUCRA ranking, Shuxuening injection (derived from Ginkgo leaf) was most effective at improving angina symptoms and reducing the frequency of angina. Among oral GBE preparations, Ginkgo tablets had the best performance in improving angina symptoms and ECG and reducing the frequency of angina. There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between the treatment group and the control group, and all adverse events were mild and self-limiting. Compared with oral preparations, the incidence of adverse events for injections was higher.

While itโs tempting to grow alllll the herbs, it can also be fun and helpful to create a garden theme. Having a theme will help you narrow down your options to plants you know youโll use and love. A theme thatโs particularly dear to our hearts is the tea garden.
HERE ARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE TEA GARDEN HERBS:
๐ต Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) -supports digestion and sleep, nurtures the nervous system, and soothes nausea and fevers.
๐ต Nettle (Urtica dioica) - high in vitamins A and C and is a good source of quercetin, iron, magnesium, and potassium.
๐ต Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) - a mild adaptogen, meaning it can directly help the body โadaptโ to physical, chemical, metabolic, and psychological stressors.
What are your favorites?

๐ฟ HERBAL ALLERGY SUPPORT ๐ฟ
Springtime brings the waking of green things from the Earth. The air is fresh and wild, and we feel called to the out-of-doors, to nature.
Yet for some of us, warmer weather is also the harbinger of, well, misery. If you suffer from seasonal allergies or someone in your family does, you know that the delights of the outdoors can be dubious because a little fun outside time may be followed by hours or days of sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Try this 3-ingredient formula to help to support the body and lessen the symptoms of seasonal allergies.

Nettle Frittata with Green Garlic and Ricotta
adapted from "Local Flavors" by Deborah Madison
3 c washed nettle leaves
2 T olive oil
1 head green garlic, minced (or substitute 2 garlic cloves)
1 c finely chopped onion
sea salt and freshly ground pepper
8 large eggs
1/3 c pecorino Romano, grated
1/2 c ricotta
1 T unsalted butter
Heat the broiler, Bring a large pot of water to a boil for the nettles and, using tongs or rubber gloves, put them into the water and blanch them for about 1 minute. Drain and when cool enough to handle, press out the water, chop into a rough cut and reserve.
Warm the olive oil in 10-inch skillet. Add the garlic and onion and cook over low heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the nettles and season with salt and pepper.
Beat the eggs with 1/2 teaspoon salt, then stir the nettle and onion mixture into the bowl and add the pecorino. Add the ricotta, leaving it a little streaky.
Wipe out the skillet and return it to the heat with the butter. When the butter has foamed and then subsided, pour in the egg mixture. Stir until the ingredients are emulsified. Turn the heat to medium-low and cook until the eggs have set up around the edges and are golden on the bottom, about 6-7 minutes. The center will still be slightly jiggly.
Slide the pan under the broiler and cook until the top is set and golden, about 1 minute. Check to see that the eggs are cooked (the frittata should be set in the center); cool slightly or to room temperature before serving.
