Friends Fighting Cancer
Bringing people together to raise money for Cancer related charities So we had to make the event even bigger from 4 teams to 8 teams taking part!
OUR STORY SO FAR
Football for cancer was born in 2009 with the idea that we would get some friends together to play in a charity football match for a cancer charity. Using the social media site Facebook, we set about asking our friends if they would be interested in taking part, this snowballed, the response was so big we had to make the decision to turn it into a tournament making up four teams
Grant given 🧡
Sadly we've had to cancel these events at the Mansion. It wasn't taken lightly but ultimately it was the right decision. We can only apologise to all that bought tickets we will email everyone before the week is out to arrange refunds.
If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with us via the website www.ffcevents.com
A huge thank you to United Minds Hampshire, who have decided to start collecting food donations at their weekly football meet ups.
Tonight George Hill dropped off the first of the donations. It's amazing that another local charity can see the great work we are doing and want to be involved.
Thank you so much.
Massive thank you to the teams at Onsite and Keyto for donating £1310 on Friday all raised throughout the Euros by wearing England shirts and holding sweepstakes and blackouts. This money will enable us to support multiple families through our grant giving service 🧡

Food for community update.
This morning we were able to help a local food bank in horndean due to the amazing supporters of ffc. They reached out to us as the lady who was the main collector and supporter of the food bank sadly passed away suddenly.
This left them in a situation where they may have to turn away families that need the support. We have just provided enough food and supplies to feed up to 40 families.
Huge thank you to everyone that has donated and please remember we have a collection point within out ffc shop.
With our memory walk this weekend we will keep posting everyone’s profiles and their own stories! Meet our event organiser Danielle.
Hey, I’m Danielle and I run the Marathon Memory Walk for Cancer.
I run this event for all those people who want to get involved in the charity who aren’t particularly sporty but want to challenge themselves by helping to raise as much as they can for our local families suffering with this horrid disease.
But personally, I walk for my step dad Mick Picton.
He didn’t pass away from cancer but I know his spirit will help me push through. Also this year, I am walking for my mother in law, Dee Wait. She’s been fighting cancer since last February.
Was told she only had up to 12 months but here we are, 16 months later and she’s still fighting her fight ❤️
Good luck to everyone taking part.
Let’s go for a walk together 🧡
Meet Dan Byrne one of our charity partners via Bernards Estate Agents
Dan is taking part in the 3 peaks event in August and has raised an incredible £1,200 already!!
This is his story: Hey, I am doing this to help me to hit personal fitness goals both mentally and physically, I am really enjoying the training and the team that’s doing it in 2024- brilliant bunch ….. I think the biggest challenge will be the body giving up after the 2nd hike and traveling between each peak…… I can be a bit of a diva as everyone knows but I intend of fully focusing on this and smashing it out the park for the charity….
I’ve had never climbed a mountain until recently and I loved being out doors with out a phone signal …..
Excited and scared at same time…..

Dan Swans comments:
The 2023/24 season was a momentous one for Friends Fighting Cancer FC, marked by significant progress and thrilling moments. The addition of new signings Matt Page, Andy Shipman, Luke Boyes, and Mitch Austin brought fresh energy and skill to an already talented squad, setting the stage for a campaign filled with promise and excitement.
The season was a rollercoaster of emotions, featuring a mix of outstanding victories and heartbreaking near-misses. The team's resilience and determination were evident throughout, showcasing their growth and potential.
One of the season's standout achievements was the journey to the cup semi-final. Friends Fighting Cancer FC displayed remarkable grit and talent, defeating three teams from higher leagues along the way. These victories not only highlighted the team's capability to compete with tougher opposition but also boosted morale and confidence within the squad.
In the league, the team put up a strong fight, consistently delivering impressive performances. The battle for promotion came down to the wire, with the outcome decided in the final moments of the last game. Although promotion was narrowly missed, the effort and tenacity shown by the players were commendable and bode well for future campaigns.
Looking ahead, the team is poised for even greater success. With the new signings gelling well with the core group of lads, Friends Fighting Cancer FC is stronger and more united than ever. The experience gained this season, coupled with the fresh talent and unwavering team spirit, positions the club as strong contenders for silverware in the upcoming season.
The anticipation for next season is palpable, and with the current squad's blend of experience and new energy, Friends Fighting Cancer FC is ready to make a significant impact. The goal is clear: to bring home the much-deserved silverware and continue building on the foundation laid this season
