And here we have the start list for Hampshire Barbell Club Summer Open taking place on Sunday the 25th of August.
The Mrs Miggins Tea (and coffee and cake) shop will be open so come on down, have a look around the gym, buy one of our amazing new club T-shirts and watch youth, senior and masters lifters strut their stuff on the cat walk.
The story of our relocation to this new, amazing space goes back to the 6th of February 2018 when a much younger .borak and ran a free introduction to weightlifting at .
Little did we know that almost exactly 6 years later we would be moving lock, stock and barbell into a fantastic, detached building in the grounds of the school. Over those 6 years we developed a special relationship with the staff, teachers and students running multiple courses by way of our status and this led to them offering us this awesome space.
Tomorrow we open our doors for the first time and hope our current and future members will love it as much as we do.
So many thank you’s.
To everyone who lifted and shifted .walls1 .1983 .of.the.lamb.93 thank you so much 😍 .
To .j.murray and the weightlifting foundation, thank you for believing in us.

How it started.
How it felt.
How it ended.
244 miles completed.
This is the distance that we will travel when we take our Youth Squad to Leeds to compete in the BWL Age Groups Championship.
£1240 raised towards the cost of transporting and supporting up to 12 kids and a bit left over to go towards new singlets.
Huge thanks to and who ripped their hands and broke their bottoms rowing all that way!!
Many thanks to who basically organised the entire thing; begging and borrowing rowers, setting up fundraising and relentlessly advertising the event.
Big thanks to everyone who called into the gym today and sat on a rower to keep the boys company, you guys created a wonderful atmosphere that propelled Mark and Brett forwards.
And finally thank you to everyone who donated, your money will make a big difference and maybe one of these kids will be competing on the biggest stage of all in 8 or 12 years time and your donation helped them get there.
Great performance today from our team, despite being one lifter short they still managed to finish second overall 🥈
A smattering of PB’s and excellent coaching from .borak brought home the shield 🛡️
Thank you to for hosting and to all the teams who competed. Many thanks to the referees, loaders and supporters ❤️

Good luck to these 3 finely tuned, hard working athletes preparing to compete at the British Masters this weekend.
In life their best years may be behind them but in terms of weightlifting all is laid before them!!
Be bold and brave but above all be careful you don’t want to hurt yourselves!!
Club news and new classes:
Congratulations to Coach for winning gold at the European Masters in Norway and setting 1 British and 3 European Records.
At the other end of the age spectrum, our Junior squad has grown to the extent that we are opening up a third youth weightlifting class on Mondays from 4:45-5:45 and a new Junior membership option of 3 sessions a week. British age groups here we come!!
Sadly we are saying ‘see you later’ to Coach who is temporarily stepping back from coaching due to work commitments. We look forward to welcoming him back when life is less hectic.
Roly’s Monday class will be led by Coach and will be an open gym session suitable for intermediate + lifters.
In addition we are introducing a fundamentals’ option to our Thursday 18:00-19:30 class. These fundamental options are suitable for beginners and allow us to monitor and coach you more closely.
We are delighted to have been selected by to be an Inclusion Academy for another year. Another 12 months to introduce and grow weightlifting at grassroots level.
Finally many thanks as always, to all our members, coaches, friends, family, supporters and sponsors.

💪
Well what a year it’s been so far and we are only half way through!!
At the beginning of 2024 we received sponsorship from 5 local businesses for our Junior squad which allowed us to purchase essential equipment; training bars and plates as well as club kit.
In February we took our biggest contingent ever to the English Age Group Championships and came home with 7 medals including 5 gold.
On the 21st of April we hosted the first ever Club Cup, a brand new initiative developed by British Weight Lifting and Przemek Borak. This was a fantastic event, a true celebration of strength, determination and communal spirit
Another exciting development was our first Age Groups Weight Lifting competition, on the 1st of June, at our newly established satellite club at Portchester Community School.
This project, set up in conjunction with the school and BWL, aims to introduce weightlifting not only to students but to the wider community.
Equipping this facility was made possible due to a generous grant from weightlifting foundation and the support of .j.murray
And finally we received three nominations in the BWL Annual Achievement Awards.
Coach of the year
Club of the year
Outstanding contribution award .borak
We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone; coaches members, sponsors, friends and family who have helped to make the first 6 months of 2024 so epic.
Here’s to the next 6 months!! .
