Le Fylde Pens

Starting one of my first pens for quite a while.
This is going to be created from a piece of pruned Almond tree, one that I cycle pass regularly when I'm in Spain.
The first part is to turn it to manageable size, then drill it before inserting brass tubes for strength

Swamp Kauri 35,000 year+

These are something really special. The magnificent Kauri tree (Agathis australis) grows only in the northerly tip of New Zealand’s North Island. Perhaps the iconic tree of New Zealand and revered by native Māori peoples, they formerly grew to enormous sizes and up to 2000 years of age. Sadly during colonial times they were plundered for their valuable timber and only a few of the old giants remain, now protected.
However, trunks of colossal old trees up to 12 feet in diameter are regularly mechanically dug out of peat bogs and swamps in coastal areas at great effort and expense. The timber, then referred to as Swamp Kauri and still in perfect condition, is cut, dried and made available for woodworking. Dendro- and carbon-dating has shown these ancient logs to be between, 35,000 and 50,000 years old.
It is believed that long before recorded history the trees were toppled by tsunamis and the wet, anaerobic conditions of the swamp preserved the timber for dozens of millennia. It is now recognised as the oldest workable timber in the world.

Made my first pen today in quite a while, I really had to concentrate on all the stages 🤣

Nearly finished the building work, I'll soon be back in my workshop

Unfortunately at the moment I'm out of action as my work room is unworkable due to building work. I'll can't wait to be back to creating new pens

My current pen I'm handcrafting this week will be made with material made from shredded Bank Notes.

Beautiful floral coloured fountain pen

Irish Bog Oak Pen 5,000 year+

This prehistoric Oak has lain undisturbed in the peat bogs of Ireland for almost 5000 years. The oak has been air dried for two years before it has been ready to be individually carved by myself and put together with chrome fittings, turning this ancient wood into a beautiful writing instrument.

ROYAL BROWN OAK PEN - 900 YEAR OLD OAK

This wood comes from an ancient English Oak tree that grew on the grounds of Royak Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, England. This 900-year-old oak tree was sadly blown down by a storm in December 2013. This particular tree showed a very slow growth rate with a 4cm section of wood showing 115 years of growth.

Windsor Great Park is a Royal Park of 4,800 acres and has some of the oldest broadleaved woodlands in Europe and whenever possible, some of the parks fallen and dead trees are left to create a diverse habitat for insects, fungi and wildlife.

Again, I can use chrome or gunmetal finish
