Jane Ashley Garden Design
I am garden designer with a passion for plants based in Ealing. I love to create beautiful gardens.
We are a West London garden design practice creating stylish, original and beautiful gardens. We will work with you to design a garden that suits your tastes, need and budget.
With landscaper Gerald of - happy recipients of a silver merit award and a silver award for two gardens shortlisted at the APL awards yesterday. Well done Gerald! Many congratulations to all the inspiring winners, with some incredible gardens. And well done to the APL for organising such a great event which always highlights the industry's achievements.
And here is the second garden that I have designed that has been shortlisted for the APL awards tomorrow - built again by Agentsgreen
Very much looking forward to the APL awards tomorrow where 2 of the gardens I have designed have been shortlisted - both built by Agentsgreen. Here is the first.
A smart pergola can make a brilliant garden feature and offer a wonderful place to sit. This beautiful oak pergola, which we included in one of our Ealing projects, is from Oak Timber Structures and we were delighted with it. Many thanks also to the superb construction team from Landscaping Solutions LTD for their top quality work building the garden.
Lovely to see so much late summer colour at our New Malden project which we finished last year, complete with pond and vegetable garden as well as lots of places for relaxing -- and loads of gorgeous plants.
Many thanks to for splendid build, for the pond equipment, and for the wonderful antique yellow limestone paving and steps. And of course to the nurseries and for the fabulous plants!
Some more pics of this fabulous art display inspired by the planting in a garden I designed last year. The paintings are by the talented and the show was part of the art trail. Made me so happy to see the garden dressed like this and looking so brilliant in the September sunshine.
I always love walking past this gorgeous Kew cottage garden by the Thames towpath which I designed last year. My clients asked for exuberant planting, which works so well in this wonderful setting! Many thanks to Larry and his team at Positive Garden Ltd for the excellent build.
So much going on in the borders at the moment. An exceptional August.
REVISITING this glorious and elegant Chiswick garden that we finished in 2021. The clay pavers harmonise brilliantly with both the classical architecture of the house and contemporary styled home office. It was great to see how the planting has filled out beautifully within a couple of years. Many thanks to Agentsgreen for the skillful build, Allgreen for the clay pavers and Chichester Trees and Shrubs for many of the wonderful plants.
A well designed pond brings so much interest and charm to a garden and is wondrous for attracting wildlife. I was delighted to receive these pictures from my lovely south London clients whose garden we completed last year. The pond has a gorgeous waterfall running over Yorkstone rocks which harmonise with the sawn Yorkstone paving and stepping stones. We also put in a matching boulder for seating near the pond. Many thanks to Positive Garden Ltd for the build, CED Stone Group for the rockery stone and Landscapeplus Ltd for the pond equipment.
REVISITING this contemporary client garden with a split level patio in Ealing which we finished last year - so good to see it thriving and enjoyed by all the family. Great view from the house, and the comfortable seating area being at a lower level doesn't block the view and allowed us to bring planting close to the house. Many thanks to for the build.
Lovely piece in this month's magazine about designing London gardens which features some of my garden designs (and thanks to for construction work) - great to see how they look good by the river and also at night time.
Absolutely delighted with the wonderful reclaimed Yorkstone which is being laid at one of my Ealing projects. Many thanks to
We are dubbing the incredible large slab in the photo “the James stone” after our landscaper James (). His team are doing a tremendous job piecing together the jigsaw to lay this very heavy stone into a coherent and appealing pattern.
What are your favourite alternatives to box (in my view to be avoided at all costs due to problems with box blight and box caterpillar)? is canvassing views on alternatives – link here: https://www.rhs.org.uk/science/help-our-research
My favourite is Euonymus ‘Jean Hughes’, as we used for example in this formal front garden in Notting Hill.
I just came across this late summer picture of some planting we did last spring. It's amazing to see how the planting filled out in just one season. I particularly love the eupatorium which gives great height and is loved by butterflies, and the persicaria which flowers for months and is adored by hoverflies. And pretty Heuchera Paris is always good value. I'm revisiting the site tomorrow as phase 2 is getting underway! Exciting!
Can't wait for the borders to look like this again - a mingling of sanguisorbas and echinops against the luminous backdrop of Robinia frisia. Roll on summer!
It's amazing how many plants you can cram into an urban garden if you dispense with the lawn. In this North London garden, we planted loads of shade tolerant plants beneath the large magnolia tree where the old lawn was struggling. The garden now has patios at either end, and, compared with grass, the central planting area is so much more sustainable, beneficial to wildlife and beautiful.
This gorgeous robin simply couldn't wait for me to get the mealworms to the bird feeder today. So tame now. The walk down the garden to top up the bird feeders must be one of the most relaxing parts of the day.
Was very pleased to see this West London garden that I designed a few years ago looking so pretty last night with additional Christmas lighting and dusting of snow. Great backdrop for a Christmas party!
Some fabulous textures in the garden right now incl some of my favourite plants: Euphorbia wulfennii, Fatsia japonica, Nandina 'Obsessed', Miscanthus 'Yakushima dwarf'
Great to see this formal and colourful front garden in Ealing (one of my projects which we completed nearly a year ago) starting to mature. Many thanks to for excellent build.
A fun project I completed recently in Ealing.
Just done a major update of my website. This is it now:

Looking back at last summer’s pictures of some my designs: my happy client of this colourful Shepherd’s Bush courtyard garden had said that before the redesign it felt like a prison yard. With lovely landscaping by
Delighted to see this wonderful Chiswick garden which we finished today. Looking forward to revisiting in the summer when herbaceous plants are in flower. Many thanks to for meticulous laying of the paths and steps using Keukenhof dutch clay pavers from , and to for supplying the amazing mature olive tree.
Wonderful, witty book of poetry lampooning our top politicians by the brilliant Martin Rosenbaum in the style of TS Eliot's 'Old Possum's book of Practical Cats'. Do share, buy, retweet, give as Christmas gifts etc . And above all enjoy!! You can get it at amzn.to/3EfDVVM or bit.ly/3pLs9yy.
Visited this garden today which I designed 2 years ago. Wonderful to see it in such good shape.

Does anyone know what variety of Camelia this is? I used to think it was Camelia x williamsii ‘Debbie’ but recently realised that it wasn’t. V early flowering, yellow stamen.
