Selection of images taken recently in Uganda for World Photography Day!
Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) in the River Nile at Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda.
This was photographed on a boat from a distance. These animals are unpredicatable and can be agressive, but still amazing to see.
Uganda Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Beautiful portrait of the male silverback gorilla. What an amazing experience to spend time with him and his troupe
Uganda - Eastern Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
There are only around 1,000 remaining in the wild. What an amazing experience to be in their company!
Here is the lead Silverback with his youngest watching over him.
African Elephant (Loxodonta africana), Murchison Falls National Park, UGANDA
First image from our recent Ugandan trip, more to come!
Early morning rainforest and clouds in Thailand, what a really beautiful and evocative view!
View of valley with early morning mist near Khao Sok Nature Reserve, Thailand
Phuket Pit Viper (Trimeresurus phuketensis) male, venomous, curled on rainforest floor at night, Nr Kathu Waterfall, Phuket, Thailand
Beautiful Indian Elephant, taken in Khao Lak Thailand, at a conservation centre. It was lovely to get up nice and close. Black & White makes it nice a graphic!
Early Spider Orchid (Ophrys sphegodes) following on from Samphire Hoe, Dover, this was taken last year. Quite rare in the UK and only found at a few sites. 💚
Wild & Stormy Sky, Samphire Hoe, Nr Dover, Kent. Shot in colour but it was more dramatic in Black & White.
Beautiful morning at Stodmarsh this week photographing these stunning Bearded Reedlings (Panurus biarmicus). Taken early morning whilst a flock was feeding along the canal on the reeds. Here is a lovely male showing off his 'beard'
Another flower photo but still beautiful, taken very early in the morning with frosty dewdrops. Snake's Head Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) Oxford UK. This is becoming a very rare flower to find in the wild. Welcome to Spring!
Common Dog Violet Flower (Viola riviniana) Kent UK.
Another one of the first spring flowers to appear. A beautiful small woodland plant photographed early morning with the dew drops, and it's also the foodplant for caterpillars for a number of UK butterflies - Fritillary family.
The first Cowslips of Spring, shot taken very early in the morning with the frost and dew still on the ground. Glistening in the foggy sunshine!
Early Purple Orchid (Orchis mascula) Kent UK. One of the first orchids you can see in the woodlands and grasslands in early spring. There are carpets of these in some areas of Kent, look out for the splash of purple in the greenery.
Scarlet Pimpernel Flowers (Anagallis arvensis), Kent UK. Often overlooked wayside flower but for me the bright red and the opening of this flower indicates the coming of nice weather, often it never opens on dull overcast days. Beautiful optimistic times ahead!
Wood Anemone (Anemonoides nemorosa), Kent UK. Soon it will be the first sights of spring. I love photographing flowers in this soft natural way, they seem to evoke a beginning of a new season and life. Hope you enjoy this too!
Dragon Arum in flower (Dracunculus vulgaris) Crete, Greece
Spectacular large lily flower growing wild in wonderful Crete in April springtime. Also known as Dragons Tooth.
Road to the snowy top mountains in Crete. Taken in April this year.
Such a tranquil and peaceful area.
Masses of wild flowers in the Spring fiesta in Crete taken earlier this year. Such a lovely moody landscape overlooking the valley and coast.
Here's a lovely dandelion seed head, photographed in the back garden last year during the lockdown period. It was taken early morning with the dew drops whilst the dandelion was in the shade but the background was in sunlight, so it created these beautiful soft colours.
Here's a beautiful Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), walking around the marsh at Elmley, fishing. What a wonderful exotic bird to see and watch in the UK.
Here's a beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat (Blue Smoke colour) which I photographed for a commission project with Anness Publising - The Complete book of Cats. It is finally being published later this year. I took hundreds of pictures of various different breeds for this book and met some wonderful cat owners along the way.
Starling Murmuration (Sturnus vulgaris) over Westcliff, Ramsgate. These flock of Starlings gather, with as many as 600 just prior to sunset, ready to roost together for safety and warmth in the arches under the cliff. They are spectacular to watch as they whirl around the sky before swooping down under the cliff to roost.
Lovely sight against the stormy sky!
This was taken last year during late summer. I make no apologies for putting up a picture of one of the most cutest and adorable critters on the planet. In amongst the turmoil that is happening hopefully this will lift your spirits!
Harvest Mouse (Micromis minutus) climbing on Teasel, UK
A bit late to post because of work but here is a picture I took during Storm Eunice from Westcliff, Ramsgate. It was dramatic and as you can see extremely windy!
A beautiful Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) on Whistable beach feeding around the pebbles at high tide.
Taken a few weeks ago on a bitterly cold morning!
I especially like the sea spray water droplets on its back.
Honduran Palm Pit Viper Snake, Bothriechis marchi, Costa Rica. Quite a rare snake to find and what I really love about this image is the vibrant green colour of this stunning snake, and it's not been altered in Photoshop!
This wonderful snake uses it's tail as a lure.
Desert Horned Viper (Cerastes cerastes) found throughout Northern Africa. This is a venemous desert snake and I am this close to it but I am behind a small sheet of glass, that way I could get close enough for this stunning portrait and remain safe. In the wild it buries itself in the sand with the horns protruding waiting in ambush for prey. I do love my snakes!
