It's my birthday π so I've treated myself to a day off, enjoy a picture of us with Snickers. We walked him yesterday and it was an awesome way to start the birthday celebrations. π I hope you all have a lovely week, and I'll see you soon, a little older but probably not much wiser π

Thank you all for another great (albeit hot π₯) Monday ππ
This week's theme is Cooling π§. We will be focusing on "Pitta" energies. Pitta comes from Ayurveda, which is linked to yoga; they are considered sister sciences. π
In Ayurveda, the Pitta dosha is responsible for body heat, so we'll be practicing postures that reduce the Pitta Dosha. π₯
We'll also be practicing cooling pranayamas (breathing exercises) such as Sheetali or Sitkari (for those who can't roll their tongues) π
Keeping hydrated and taking it slow π is the goal of the day π
This week's theme is Digestion. We will be working our way through postures that aid and stimulate digestion. π
These postures will include many side bends, twists, and rotations. π
From overeating to IBS, yoga can be used to help relieve pain, reduce stress, and aid digestive mobility. π
Fun fact: did you know the gut is referred to as the "second brain" because this complex system uses the same chemicals and cells as the brain to function, and it can also communicate directly with the brain when something is wrong? π§
The pranayama or breathing exercise we'll be practicing this week is Diaphragmatic breathing. By using the diaphragm, we engage our core to lead the breath. π«

This week's focus is the hips and specifically half Pigeon Pose π
Todays class focuses on opening the hips and stretching the hip flexors and lower back. These poses will benefit those who suffer from lower back pain, great for people who sit a majority of the time. πͺ
Furthermore opening the hips relieves mental stress or worries since Ayurveda claims the hips are the storehouse for stress, sadness, and fear.π

This week's focus is Dancer Pose or Natarajasana in Sanskrit π
The benefits of this pose include, strengthening the feet, ankles, legs, core, back and arms. Stretching the front of the body including the chest, abs, hips and the shoulders. Lastly improving our balance and concentration. π
This pose is a balance which usually means there is smiles all round, a great opportunity to just have fun π
FYI, Dancer is not the pose shown in my photo (flamingo pose). I was setting up for it but it was difficult on a log in a stream π, just a reminder that the journey is equally important as the destination π₯
Tomorrow's class is going to be a restorative practice leading up to Shoudlerstand a perfect way to start your weekend π§π»ββοΈπ

Today class will be working up to Shoudlerstand or Salamba Sarvangasana.
This will mean we'll be strengthening and stretching our core, spine and shoulders. π
The benefits of this pose are deep stretches in the shoulders and neck. Calming the nervous system. Reducing fluid in the legs and feet. Reducing fatigue. Improving digestion and sleep π€
Obviously the Chair class will not include Shoulderstand but we'll be working our core and shoulders too π
Continuing on from Monday today's class focuses on working our way up to half moon pose, very different class to Monday but still working towards the same pose ππ
This week's focus is Half Moon Pose / Ardha Chandrasana. π
Our practice will be a full body workout, providing an increase in strength in the ankles, legs and core, improve flexibility in the hips and chest and lastly a chance to improve our balance. π§π»ββοΈ
This pose is perfect for those of us who sit or hunch forward often. πͺ
And if you're feeling spicy we may have a go at Sugar Cane pose π₯
Continuing from Monday, today's class will cover the whole body with focus on hips and shoulders building up to Eagle Pose. A standing balance that gives the body the opportunity to stretch, strengthen and even twist! See you on the mat? π
Back to Yoga as usual this week, our theme being Garudasana or Eagle Pose π¦
this pose has many components it is a stretch, twist, strengthener and balance so prepare for a full body workout today π
Eagel pose is said to represent Garuda. According to Hindu Mythology, Garuda is depicted as a powerful and majestic bird-like creature and known as the king of birds. Garuda serves as the vehicle of Lord Vishnu, one of the principal deities in Hinduism. Hence, practicing this pose is not only a physical exercise but gives us the opportunity to connect with the following symbolism and qualities represented by Garuda:
Strength, Power, Grace, Precision,
Unity, Balance and Transcendence π
