Here are three simple steps you can use anytime and anywhere to give yourself a boost and build your compassion for others.

STEP 1: BE MINDFUL
Relax your breathing and notice: How am I feeling right now?

STEP 2: BE GRATEFUL
Look around you and ask yourself: What am I thankful for?

STEP 3: BE KIND
With warm feelings, ask yourself: Who do I want to send love to?

Remember, we can’t always change what is happening, but we can choose how we respond.

Mother's Day is a beautiful day of joy, but it can also hurt for so many reasons. So for all of our new Mums, those adoptive and foster Mums, those single women longing to be a Mum, Mums grieving the loss of their child, those women who have a strained relationship with their Mother's and those who's Mothers have passed. You are loved, today, tomorrow, forever.

Did you know that those with dementia often show that they're agitated or anxious through fidgeting hands?

To help them calm down and relax when they are showing signs of feeling uneasy or flustered, you need to engage them in something enjoyable, keeping their hands occupied. Sensory therapy or fidget toys are great ways to do this, so here are 5 of our favourite calming strategies to try for fidgeting hands:

💙 Fidget blankets.
💙 Sensory toys.
💙 Ask for their help with simple chores such as folding light clothing items.
💙 Shuffle a deck of cards.
💙 Knitting or crotchet.

Those you're caring for might only feel comfortable doing one of these things or none at all, so make sure you do what they enjoy and are comfortable doing, even if that means trying something completely different.

Save this for later and tag someone that might find this useful.

Healthcare work requires good interpersonal skills, attentiveness and, of course, compassion, so the person you're caring for is comfortable under your care.

Although you may uphold all of these skills, sometimes, it can be hard to know what to do without upsetting the service user, so we've put together a few tips that can be used for anyone you're caring for no matter their age or care needs.

Save this to refer back to and tag a carer below.

We can all get a little hot and bothered at this time of year, but as you can imagine, our elderly loved ones are affected by the heat change a lot more as their bodies struggle to adjust to temperature change.

So, here's a few of our tips to keep elderly people cool in the summer months:

☀️ Keep hydrated. Drink as many liquids as you can.
☀️ Dig out the SPF, sun hats and sunglasses.
☀️ Pop the kettle on. Warm drinks actually help to regulate your body temperature.
☀️ Try to avoid sitting directly in the sun between 11 am and 3 pm.
☀️ Place a cool washcloth on the back of the neck and feet in a pan of cool (but not too cold) water.

What are your top tips for keeping cool in summer?

Working for an agency can seem scary, especially if it isn't something that you've considered doing before. However, it might actually be the best option for you and your healthcare career.

Working in the same environment all the time can sometimes get tedious, especially if you enjoy being kept on your toes.

Well, one of the key advantages of working for an agency is that we offer variation in your job role. There is no 'standard day at the office' as an agency worker and you can expect to work with a wide range of environments, care needs and personalities.

If you want more variety in your job role, get in contact to find out more about our agency and what positions we have to offer.

Today marks the first day of Awareness Week.

One of the many things we take advantage of is our senses. Imagine the world with only 3 of your 5 senses. How would you get to work? How would you do your shopping? How would you go about your day-to-day life?

There are 400,000 deafblind people in the UK, so we want you to recognise how brave and strong these people are and raise awareness to make our world more inclusive for everyone.

Our Support Workers experience the difficulties those with deafblindness face every day, and that's why we want you all to get 'in the know' this week and do everything you can to support those with dual sensory loss.

Many of our Support Workers help those living with learning disabilities as it can be quite hard, especially with the discrimination people hold around these difficulties.

That's why we want to remind you this week that some of the most successful and influential people in history have learning disabilities. This only proves that learning disabilities do not lessen your potential; they sometimes just mean taking a different path from other people to get the same outcome.

Remember, everything is possible if you try hard enough. We believe in you all.

For the longest time, we have heard all sorts of rumours about hiccups and how to get rid of them, such as drinking water upside down, scaring people and holding your breath, all of which definitely aren't true.

Although there is no definite cause or cure for hiccups, we can tell you that they're triggered by a few things, including stress, strong emotions (like excitement), and eating/drinking fast.

So, instead of going around using hiccups as an excuse to scare people, share the triggers of hiccups to hopefully help people prevent them in the first place.

Since we're coming into summer, waking up to warmer days, and everyone's looking for a quick fix to cool down, we thought it was about time we shared our favourite way to lower our body temperature.

The best way that we have found to cool us down is actually to put ice on our pulse points, such as our wrists and sides of the neck. Since your blood vessels in these areas are close to the skin's surface, the cold will bring your body temperature down much quicker.

How do you cool it, cucumber?
