Did you know that each year in the UK, festival-goers collectively use and discard around 2m bottles and abandon 250,000 tents.
The Reading Festival's organisers have put in place important waste reduction initiatives, from water refills stations, deposit return scheme, recycling bin stations to recycling reward schemes.
In addition, the will coordinate a salvage operation after the festival for organisations to collect some of the perfectly reusable camping equipment that is left behind. This is an opportunity for charities and community groups to come to the festival site on the Monday after the show and help save what they can. Please email [email protected] to register your interest.

We believe that none of you would ever intentionally litter, but have you heard about being an "accidental litterer"?
⚠️ Sometimes, small items like receipts, wrappers, or coins can fall out without the person realising it.
⚠️ You’ve “tried your best” and place your litter on top of the litter bin or just next to it but sadly due to wind, animals, or other factors they won’t end up there in the end! Please try to always take your rubbish home instead.
⚠️ Trying to hide your litter by squeezing it into the bench or leaving a bottle or bag behind after a picnic or outdoor activity.
⚠️ Being the “organic litterer” and discarding food waste bits like banana peel or apple core which surprisingly may take years to decompose! They also encourage other type of litter!
⚠️ Being a “99%-er” – you picked up all big bits, but that one little item was left behind as you thought it won’t matter....

Did you know that cigarette butts are the most common type of PLASTIC WASTE in the world and marine litter? Yes, they are made of PLASTIC which means they will never biodegrade and only 1 in 4 people know about it.
That’s not all, they are simply poisonous to children, pets and wildlife as they release toxic chemicals to the environment, including lead, arsenic and ni****ne. Remember to always take them to the nearest bin. Spread this news and tag your friend to make everyone aware.

⚠️ Disposable vapes are an increasingly popular alternative to smoking. But too often we see them littered.

They’re made of valuable resources which can be hazardous if not disposed of properly – especially lithium.

Please remember to always treat disposable vapes as small electrical items and recycle in the same way you would items like kettles or toasters.

Bring them to our recycling centres or check the local electrical stores drop off points via the Scrapp app.

If you are thinking of having a picnic this weekend, please make sure you take all your litter home with you or put it in a bin. 🚮
Even better, why not have a litter-free picnic? You could try:
✅ Using reusable food containers and Tupperware
✅ Bringing a flask or reusable water bottle, instead of plastic bottles.
✅ Bring reusable straws and cutlery to reduce single use plastics.
✅ Using beeswax wraps as an alternative to cling film.

🚗 Do you ever notice roadside litter?
It's not exactly what you want to see on a scenic summer drive, right? It's an obvious eyesore and also not great for our environment or wildlife; small animals can get stuck in packaging, and litter breaks down into microplastics that get into the soil and waterways.
What can you do to prevent it? Just keep it 'til you bin in! Remember to take an extra carrier bag with you and use it to keep all your litter, until you get home.

05/08/2024

How often do you reckon rubbish is dropped on our roads?🤔
According to the research.... it is around every 3 seconds on average! 😲

✅If you are travelling by car, remember to always pack a spare bag so you can hold on to your rubbish! We all want to have

There are 39 community recycling areas across Bracknell Forest, all accepting glass and some also accept clothes.

Please remember to take the containers you use to transport the recycling home with you and put it into your kerbside recycling if appropriate.

Fixed penalty notices of £100 to £400 will be issued to people that are caught dumping their rubbish at these locations. A number have been issued this week.

In addition to making the area look untidy and uncared for, this rubbish can attract vermin, may encourage other anti-social behaviour and can be blown around and have a negative impact on wildlife and habitats.

Please recycle responsibly.

This month we are going to focus on anti-littering. Summer is a season to be loved, not littered so let's cherish our beautiful surroundings by keeping them free of rubbish.

✅ When you are out, never leave rubbish behind. Take your litter home so you can recycle or dispose of it properly!

🏊Have you been enjoying watching the Olympics? We have some interesting facts for you today. Did you know that 50 million litres of paint go to waste in the UK each year? That's enough to fill 20 Olympic-size swimming pools! To help reduce this waste, why not take advantage of our re3use paint initiative? On your next visit to the re3 Recycling Centres, check out our yellow cabinets, which are stocked with water-based paint. Grab what you need and use it up (and also save yourself some money)!

ONE MILLION PODS…. We are still finding this milestone mind-blowing! We're regularly checking our containers and they are filling up so quickly! At both sites, you can find two containers—one for aluminum pods and one for plastic. They need to be separated as they are going to be sent to different facilities for recycling. ♻️

The Olympics’ opening ceremony is just a few hours away! 🥇

While recycling might not be a competition, when done right, everyone wins! We’ve checked our last year tonnages and gave re3’s top 3 most recycled materials in home recycling bins their gold, silver, and bronze medals.

First place goes to paper and cardboard, second to all types of plastics, and third to aluminum and steel. Are you surprised by the results?

Ensure you’re recycling correctly! If you’re unsure about an item, check our Scrapp app. Simply scan the barcode to see if it’s recyclable!

☕ 👏 Now this is grounds to celebrate!
Our local coffee drinkers are making a great success of the Podback recycling scheme at the Recycling Centres! Within the first year of the service, we've recycled over one million of your coffee pods, more than 1.35m to be precise which is equivalent to 7 pods per household, weighing over 21 tonnes!
Thank you to all our diligent recyclers for helping us hit this massive milestone and we hope that this recycling habit will continue to brew locally in the coming months! It simply demonstrates how important it is to recycle every single item and shows how our collective efforts can make a real difference!

If you have any unneeded or outgrown school uniforms, donate them to First Days Children's Charity.
This local charity accepts summer and winter uniforms, as well as school items like lunchboxes, rucksacks, football boots and water bottles. Please make sure they are clean and in good quality.
To drop off your donated items, make an appointment online before heading to First Days’ headquarters at Molly Millars Lane, Wokingham (RG41 2QZ). Alternatively, put them in one of their orange or pink donation bins.
First Days has a ‘Uniform Shop’ just over the road from The Elevate Centre at 3 Denmark Court (RG40 2AZ). It is open every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm for families in need to get low-cost uniforms.

Did you know that we have recycling bins for vapes at the Recycling Centres?

It’s so important to recycle them as vapes contain lithium batteries. When binned or incorrectly disposed of, they can get crushed or damaged in bin lorries and start fires.

With the recent expansion of the plastic bags and wrapping trial service, we are seeing more and more blue bags at our facility! Since last year, we have collected over 13 tonnes of plastic bags and wrapping, equivalent to over 3,250 wheelie bins (140L-sized), helping to reduce disposal costs and save on the carbon footprint. Thank you to everyone who participates in this service. If you have been on the trial for a while and are running low on bags, remember you can order more via the form on the respective council website.

If you are recycling at this site and all other recycling areas please make sure that you take the boxes you have brought the recycling in home with you and recycle it there.

Did you know this? 🤔
Your plastic recycling can come back as many different products. From footy shirts to flower pots. Wheelie bins to wormeries. Composters to carrier bags. There are so many possibilities! 🤩
At our facility we sort your plastic into 4 different types and last year we helped to recycle almost 3,500 tonnes of plastic. Remember by reusing and recycling plastic as many times as possible we can reduce our need to create new plastic.

♻️ If you find you have a few glass bottles after the match, please put them in a local bottle bank. If the bottle bank is full please take the glass home with you or use an alternative bottle bank. Please do not leave it on the floor as this makes it difficult for crews to empty the banks 🙌
