We are very pleased to announce that after completing the UK Sniffer Dogs Silver Instructor Assessment, Smart Dog Academy are now able to provide Silver level scent detection 121s and courses!

As a commitment to our customers and our own self learning, we will continue to increase our knowledge base and skills so we are able to provide the most up to date, effective and ethical training for your dogs.

A space has become available on this workshop for tomorrow Saturday 11th May at 1pm in Tilehurst if you'd like to do something a bit different with your dog!
If you'd like to have some fun with your dog whilst providing them with some good enrichment and tire them alternatively through the use of their nose, then our 1-hour Fun Sniff & Search Workshop on Saturday 11th of May at 1:00pm at our Tilehurst Venue may be the thing for you!
10 minutes of nose work is proven to be as effective as a whole 60 minute walk and releases happy endorphins in your dogs brain!
Suitable for sociable dogs of any age.

A huge congratulations to Cleo and her owners who have successfully passed their IMDT Partnership Grade Level 2 with the Smart Dog Academy!

It has been amazing to see this partnership grow from when we first started 121 home sessions with Cleo when she was 10 weeks old and then through our Puppy Foundation Course, Improvers Course and now at 14 months flying through our IMDT grade membership Scheme

Matt had the pleasure of starting Simba's 1-2-1 Puppy Foundations training journey this morning!

We covered reward based training methods and why they are so effective, socialisation & exposure, installing a marker word and got started on some all important fundamentals such as downs, stands and hand targets to build behaviours upon.

He is a such a gorgeous pup and very bright at such a young age! Well done to you and your owners today Simba, you smashed it!

Can't wait to see how he develops over the upcoming weeks!

Welcome to the Academy!

We had a fantastic kickstart to our Introduction to Canine Hoopers Course last week!

Some of you may be wondering what Canine Hoopers is exactly and is it suitable for your dog?

Hoopers is a canine sport that is suitable for dogs of any age (yes, even puppies!) due to it's low impact nature and flowing courses. Dogs and handlers are tasked with navigating through courses of hoops, tunnels and barrels.

Courses are design and structured with low impact in mind and all of the equipment we use is baseless so there is no jumping over bars through our hoops, including our tunnels which are also straight and baseless so dogs arent banking inside them.

We also provide non-slip flooring in our venues as dog welfare is of the highest importance to us to ensure safety and fun for everyone!

As this is an introductionary course we look for controlled flowing movement and discourage dogs from running whilst they are learning the fundamentals throughout the duration of the sessions.

If you are looking to give something new and fun a try, why not give Hoopers a go!?!

To those who enjoy it and wish to continue building on the fundamentals, we offer Hoopers classes outdoors through the summer and also 121 sessions.

Smart Dog Academy are pleased to announce we are holding our next fun filled Puppy Exposure and Socialisation Training at the Winnersh Community Centre on Friday 26th of January at 7pm. An essential workshop for any new puppy to attend.

This 60 min session with teach you about understanding canine body language and how to safely introduce your dogs to other dogs whilst on lead. As well as supervised interactions with other dogs, your dog will also be carefully exposed to sights, sounds and textures to help them prepare for life in our world.

🐶 Puppies must be under 6 months of age
🐶 Puppies must be fully vaccinated
🐶 Small group sizes
🐶 Great opportunity to bond with your dog
🐶 Meet other local puppy owners
🐶 All the family welcome (under 18’s must be supervised)
