So this week I've been mostly under pressure, perhaps not the pressure you might imagine! I've been using hyperbaric oxygen therapy to help reverse some of the effects of my brain injury.
I can't say it's an easy process but after the first few sessions I am noticing improvements. The hardest part is being claustrophobic and knowing that I'm in a small and emotionally uncomfortable environment for an hour and my head spends the whole hour shouting at me to get out! The interesting thing is, I wasn't claustrophobic pre brain injury, one of many things that are new to me! Four sessions under my belt so far thanks to lovely, kind and very patient Pieter ππ»π I have been listening to 's amazing book Dare to Tri on to try and keep my mind out of fight or flight mode π³ Brilliant book by Louise, so encouraging. Today is Hats for Headway day. Headway is a charity that supports those with brain injuries.
I am the proud owner of a Headway card, a bit like a driving licence it has a photograph and some details about me but the important difference between the two is that my Headway card tells anyone I present the card to, that I am in recovery from a brain injury. There are five main areas that I struggle with, memory, comprehension and processing, sequencing, organisation, attention and concentration, all of which are listed on the card. This card allows me to feel safe and more relaxed in challenging situations especially if I'm in unfamiliar company and can't find my words. Thank you for all you do to help our special community π§‘
