EICR carried out last week resulted in an unsatisfactory report despite being recently re-wired.
Everything throughout the property was generally poorly installed & terminated with metal accessories throughout, many of which that were not earthed.
Both ring circuits had no continuity on the live conductors both down to poor terminations. To top it off smoke alarms have just been screwed to the ceiling but no power run to them 🤣
Always important to get your electrics checked.

Consumer unit upgrade using a Wylex skeleton board.

Doing a lot of social housing & council work means we come across boards in mantel units all the time. These Wylex skeleton boards are design to be retrofitted into the mantel cabinet. The cabinet often requires various alterations such as removing the metal shelf by drilling out the spot welds & grinding off various parts but once they are in they are perfect for the job.

Not the most exciting post but a burnt out/poorly terminated shower switch has got to be one of the more common faults we see.

I will always use these Crabtree switches rather than the square kind with a back box as especially with 10mm cable, you can achieve a much better connection with this switch.

Cable can be stripped & terminated before the switch is screwed back to the ceiling making it much easier to work with.

A few from a recent loft conversion. A bit more involved than normal as the customer wanted the lighting controlled via wise control wireless switches to match their existing system.
All drivers & connections located in 1 single place to make any future maintenance easy.

Relocated wise wireless receivers for 2 bathrooms due to a loft conversion now being built. inc supplies for downlighting, wall lights, LED strip & extractor fan.
Previous installation was done by the bathroom fitted so needed a fair amount of tidying up. All equipment will now be located in a cupboard in the new loft for easy access.

Another loft conversion all complete this week.

matte black accessories.
H2 Lite downlights.

⚡️Not the most exciting post but I didn’t know these existed until last week so might help someone out in future.
Needed a dual single dry liningbox but it had to be 47mm deep and the pre made ones from the wholesaler only go up to 35mm.
These joiners are available from . They allow you to join any combination & amount of boxes together by removing the existing lugs and the just clicking in the joining piece.

They work really well & definitely worth having a few on the van.

💡 Simple “can you swap a few lights for me” job this afternoon that took a bit longer than expected due to the 91 hanging crystals that had to be put on on this light 😆
Customer pleased with it though which is all that matters.

Another week another board change.
But more if a tricky one as all this had to fit inside a 500 kitchen wall unit which was moving slightly from where the old unit was. (As you can see by the wall there was lots of marking out of the new units exact position as there was only about 30mm to play with 😬
Turned out well in the end as I didn’t have to extend any cables.

Before & after on a small board change from today. Nice to have some decent length on most of the cables for once. Fusebox as always. ⚡️

Few finds on an EICR carried out this week.

Everything looked ok on the surface with the property having had a full rewire around 10 years ago you would have hoped everything was in order.
In reality there was a lot of issues and just poor workmanship in general. Multiple sockets has been left not connected to earth with the CPC just twisted together in the back box. The cooker/hob also had no earth connection with 2 x 6mm & a 2.5 all wedged in the same terminal.
Every light in the ground floor was without an earth connection & the garage supply was just hanging from the house to the garage.

Not a great result considering it was rewired fairly recently. 😰

External wall light installation along with an external socket for an electric mobility scooter charger & to enable to resident to use the side access more easily.

Used Interceptor Murus fittings all controlled via a photocell.

Really nice fittings with push fit connections and Besa box mounting options. Also colour selectable 3/4 or 6000k. Would definitely recommend them.

Recently competed power & lighting installation in this media wall.

New supplies for the tv, electric fire & AV equipment that was located in one of the cupboards.

Really impressed with the lights (Matt Gold searchlight lights supplied by ). Only 35mm deep & a 37mm cut out which was perfect for the shallow shelves also available in Matt Gold which was a request from the client.
All lighting fully dimmable and controlled by a quinetic switch.

⚡️ Consumer units finally all complete at a large rewire we have been carrying out.
Pleased with how this turned out, worked well with the space we had available.

Due to different areas of the house having to be done in different stages & also the layout of the house having 3 previous extensions plus this one there ended up being a large amount of individual circuits, which I only see as a benefit for the customer In future.

I would have like to have done din rail entry but as above was constantly adding circuits so wouldn’t have worked.

Back to a previous kitchen job to add some more LED strip to the kitchen island & fit the island pendant light.

LED bathroom cabinet install in a recently completed job.

These cabinets rarely have any space behind for connections so I always try and fit a 47mm box behind where the cabinet is going as it makes fitting so much easier. A Scolmore click flow plug fits perfectly in the box.

LED Feature lighting.

Installed this recently in a clients bedroom. Customer had seen the plaster in profile but as they were only re-decorating it wasn’t an option.

Instead we installed a white surface mounted LED profile with a shallow depth so that it blends in with the ceiling.

Used spotless COB led strip in warm white that is fully dimmable via remote control.

Double stack consumer unit swap.

3 old boards all combined into 1 new, with space for new circuits to be added in the future.

Property had 9 lighting circuits so had to list out what each one done, hence all the labels 🤪

Another consumer unit change completed yesterday. This one involved relocating the consumer unit to a more accessible position as the customer requested it to be in a position that was easier to access.

All cables had to be joined & extended, this was done using din rail connectors. First time I have used this method but pretty happy with how they turned out.

Gas bonding also upgraded song with some new power & lighting in the garage.

A recent consumer unit change to full RCBO board with surge protection.

Customer was getting the economy 7 meter removed and wanted both existing boards combined into one. There was also enough slack to be able to move the new consumer unit higher up.

Economy 7 supply was left in the board with space to add it again in the future if needed.

💡 LED strip installed above & below kitchen cupboards on a recent refurb project.

9.6w 4000k strip used, installed in aluminium profile.
Fully dimmable using click LED dimmer modules.

Kitchen switches & socket upgrade.

Polished chrome accessories upgraded to
Click Deco Stainless Steel range.

Have been my go to for a while. Love the flexibility of the mini grid range as it allowed the old 4 gang mk grid switch that contained a blank and an unused switch to be changed to a 2 gang dimmer in a double plate meaning the back box did not need to be changed & allows for a cleaner look.

Photos from SMG_Electrical's post 11/11/2021

Kitchen refurbishment project completed today. Included a full re wire of the kitchen including various new supplies for the new appliances, additional consumer unit and replacement of all downlights.
All kitchen isolation points located inside a cupboard to avoid having them all above the worktops. Used Click Grid PRO for the isolators, easy to work with & they have a wide range of engraved modules.

Another CP Electric Ltd board fitted today complete with surge protection to feed a new kitchen refurb.

Another loft extension complete this week. Doing a lot more of these at the moment with more people working from home and using them as home offices.

This one included CAT6 run into the loft for hardwired data, along with downlights accessories and Aico smoke alarms throughout.
