With the British weather being what it is, it might be useful to talk about how this cold weather can affect your feet !
What are chilblains?
Chilblains are small, itchy swellings on the skin that occur as a reaction to cold temperatures.
They most often affect the body's extremities, such as the toes, fingers, heels, ears, and nose.
It's caused by exposure to damp air that's cold but not freezing. Symptoms may show up a few hours after being in the cold.
Chilblains can be prevented by limiting your time in the cold, dressing warmly, and covering exposed skin. If you do get chilblains, keeping the skin warm and dry can help ease the symptoms.

With the weather hopefully warming up soon, I thought it would be worth talking about athletes' feet!
Athlete's foot is a common fungal infection that affects your feet.
One of the main symptoms of Athlete's foot is itchy white patches between your toes.
It can also cause sore and flaky patches on your feet.
The skin can look red, but this may be less noticeable on brown or black skin.
Athlete's foot can also affect your soles or sides of your feet. It sometimes causes fluid-filled blisters.
If it's not treated, the infection can spread to your toenails and cause a fungal nail infection.
Thing that will help if suffering from athlete's foot;
*dry your feet after washing them, particularly between your toes – dab them dry rather than rubbing them
*use a separate towel for your feet and wash it regularly
*take your shoes off when at home
*wear clean socks every day – cotton socks are best

People with diabetes have a high risk for many types of foot health problems. A diabetic foot exam can help find problems that can lead to serious infection and amputation (surgery to remove all or part of your foot) if they're not found and treated early.
Diabetic foot problems can happen over time if high blood glucose (blood sugar) damages the nerves and blood vessels in your feet. Nerve damage from diabetes is called diabetic neuropathy. It can make your feet feel numb or tingly. It can also cause you to lose feeling in your feet.
Here at Happy Feet Clinic, we check the health of your feet at every appointment, so you can have peace of mind and happy feet !
Ingrowing Toenail
They can be so painful and very tempting to try and sort out yourself. However if not done correctly you can cause more serious problems like infections or scaring.
Always book an appointment to get them removed professionally to prevent this.
Corns are small lumps of hard skin that can get pushed deep into the skin due to pressure. Corns should always be removed by a professional.
Here are somethings you can do at home to help ease the pain before removal
○ wear thick, cushioned socks
● wear wide, comfortable shoes with a low heel and soft sole that do not rub
○ use soft insoles or heel pads in your shoes
● soak corns and calluses in warm water to soften them
○ regularly use a pumice stone or foot file to remove hard skin
● moisturise to help keep skin soft
Remember it is very important not to try and remove corns yourself as this can damage the surrounding skin or push the corn deeper into the skin!

New Year, so a new introduction!
A little bit about Happy Feet Clinic.
Happy Feets journeys started back in 2020 right on top of a pandemic!
I decided to start my own business to help others with their foot care needs. I noticed that people overlooked their feet, leading to more serious side effects. This was highlighted to me by my Nan was a diabetic and didn’t understand the important of looking after one’s feet and sadly had to face a lot of pain due to this.
I wanted to make sure that people could have quality foot care treatments in the comfort of their own homes to avoid situation like this occurring.
Happy Feet Clinic thrives to give the best quality treatment to all of our beloved clients to give them very happy feet !
Common foot problems see each winter so you can avoid winter toe woes !
Toenail fungus. Infection is more common in winter because your nails become dry and brittle. Plus, if your thick socks don’t wick away moisture, your nails become breeding grounds for athlete’s foot and other toenail infections.
Dry, cracked heels. This is especially common in men and if left untreated, fissures or cracks can develop, increasing your risk of infection.
Frostbite. When tissue is in freezing temperatures for long periods of time, you can get frostbite. The cold air causes blood vessels to constrict, limiting blood flow to the tissue, which can lead to tissue damage or tissue death.
Chilblains. Also known as pernio, chilblains are caused by painful inflammation of blood vessels in your skin due to prolonged exposure to cold air. They can cause itching, red patches, swelling and blisters on your hands and feet.
Raynaud’s Phenomenon. This condition is mostly seen in females with circulation problems. It can develop when toes or fingers are exposed to cold air, causing the small capillaries in your digits to spasm, limiting blood flow to the area. This causes numbness, pain and the skin to turn white or blue.
Morton’s neuroma and other neuropathy issues. Cold weather can exacerbate neuropathy conditions, often causing weakness, numbness, tingling, burning and pain in the area. Wearing shoes that pinch or constrict your feet also can cause these conditions to flare up.
Merry Christmas to all our wonderful clients.
The average person will walk 150, 000 miles in a lifetime !
Given the complexity of our feet and our reliance on them, it seems incomprehensible that people often give them such little attention or care. With life being so busy it is sometimes easier to shrug off the knocks and the bumps with hardly a second thought. This is often why common foot complications get ignored and get worse.
This is one of the reasonS why I made my business mobile to make it easier for my clients to look after thier feet but also get on with thier lives !
Message today in order to get your appointment before Christmas !
