Petition: Exempt outdoor tennis from closure due to COVID-19 09/01/2021

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/557658

Petition: Exempt outdoor tennis from closure due to COVID-19 Support the LTA in conducting COVID safe outdoor tennis. Tennis facilities operate nationally and mostly on a volunteer basis help people keep physically and mentally fit.

04/01/2021

No tennis can be played during the national lockdown. We are trying to keep up but its changing all the time. We will put an LTA statement on Facebook and the website tomorrow.

30/12/2020

Just a quick update before we get any further details from the LTA at the weekend:

LTA guidelines for tier 4:

Outdoor tennis courts can remain open for individual exercise, and for people to use with others within your household, support bubble, or with one person from another household. One-to-one coaching outdoors is therefore also permitted

Organised outdoor sport for under 18s and disabled people will be allowed to continue in larger numbers.

01/12/2020

Further to the Government announcement on 26 November 2020, Staffordshire has been classified as a Tier Three/ Very High Alert area for Covid -19 when we emerge out of the lockdown on 2 December 2020.

As such, the LTA has provided summary guidance for venues operating in Tier 3 areas as follows. These measures will come into effect when the Club reopens with effect from 10:00am on Wednesday 2 December 2020.

The full guidelines from the LTA have yet to be issued.

Members should note that revisions may be issued when full guidelines from the LTA have been issued. In the meantime, any members wishing to read the tiered summary sheet for themselves, should visit the lta website.

Upon reopening on 2 December 2020, the following will apply:

Tennis:
As prior to the recent lockdown, outdoor tennis activity is permitted as follows:

· Singles (up to any two households)

· Doubles (up to any 4 households - under rule of 6)

· Singles and doubles (same household)

There shall be absolutely no mixing outside of this 4, once play has started.

On arrival, players should go directly to the court, continuing to observe social distancing and good hygiene practices (e.g. use of hand sanitiser). Players should avoid social interaction with those individuals they are not playing with.

This is to be the format of tennis at the Club in respect of informal social play, whilst the restriction for group size in Tier 3 is limited to the rule of 6 persons. Any member found to be contravening these restrictions will be referred to The Committee.

Members should note that travel restrictions into and out of a Tier 3 area will apply and should therefore consult the GOV.UK website for specific details relating to travel to the Club.

Coaching:
As prior to the recent lockdown, coaching activity outdoors is permitted as follows:

· 1 to 1 coaching can proceed

· Group coaching for adults and children can proceed (max 12 adults per court / max 15 children per court)

· There should be no socialising before or after any coaching activity

Competition:
Organised, official competition and structured league matches can take place under Tier 3 restrictions, in the format of singles and doubles.

There should be no socialising before or after matches.

This may impact travel to and from matches and therefore Captains should contact their league/ competition organisers to understand the specific implications and whether matches and competitions will continue.

Spectating:
Spectating in a Tier 3 location is NOTallowed.

Parent or guardian supervision for children is permitted but only one person per player.

Social Distancing:
All players, members, visitors, coaches and staff are reminded to observe social distancing (the 2m rule) and good hygiene practices (e.g. use of hand sanitiser) whilst at the Club.

You should also avoid social interaction with individuals you are not playing with, before, during and after your tennis activity.

We would remind all players, members, visitors, coaches and staff NOT to congregate either inside or outside the Club perimeter.

Travel associated with a Tier 3 Venue:
If you are travelling within an area to tennis activity, this is permitted but you should aim to reduce the number of journey’s you make where possible.

Winter Floodlight Tennis:
Winter Floodlight Tennis will resume with effect from Wednesday 2 December 2020 at 6:00pm.

Court Bookings:
You can now book a court online with our new online system via ClubSpark

Clubhouse and Changing Rooms:
The Clubhouse will remain CLOSED at this time.

Adult Coaching:
We are aiming to restart the new adult programme on Monday 7th December 2020. Numbers will be strictly limited and new players will be contacted via email.

We thank all players, members, coaches, staff and visitors for their support whilst we put these changes in place. Our priority is to keep the tennis activity running as safely as possible at the Club and your co-operation is paramount to ensure we can continue to do this.

*IMPORTANT*

Members, players, coaches, staff and visitors should continue to consider their own circumstances and act in accordance with current Government guidelines and legislation (www.gov.uk/coronavirus).

In addition, anyone attending a venue (including players, coaches, staff and any other visitors), should undergo a pre-attendance self-assessment for any COVID-19 symptoms using the information on the NHS website before leaving home. No-one should leave home to participate in tennis if they, or someone they live with, has symptoms of COVID -19, currently recognised as any of the following:

· A high temperature

· A new, continuous cough

· A loss of, or change to, their sense of smell or taste

Should an individual have demonstrated any such symptoms, they must follow NHS and Public Health England guidance on self-isolate

For further reading, please refer to the current information available on the LTA website.

Best regards,
The committee
