NEW PURPLE BELT IN THE HOUSE!!!
On Sunday head BJJ coach Andy Law awarded Tony his Purple belt
🟪🟪🟪⬛️⬛️⬛️🟪
When Brotherhood was set up in July 2019 Tony was one of the first people through the door. He was already a blue belt when he joined us so it was great to have him on the mats.
Since then he has had a few breaks due to lockdowns and life events, but for the past year Tony has put the work in, and is well and truly a fixture of the team.
Plus the fact that everyone knows when Tony is in the room means that it is never a dull class when he is in. Usually because you can hear him chatting and laughing 😂
So it was only fitting that Tony get his Purple belt at the Sunday disco session.
One session that Tony would never miss.
Congratulations Tony 🤙🏻
NEW BROWN BELT IN THE HOUSE!!!
Long post warning, but Kyle has earned it.
On Saturday head BJJ coach Andy Law went over to Havant BJJ with Kyle Levier to a Roberto “Gordo” Correa seminar.
While at the seminar, with the blessing of Lee Wright, head coach of Havant BJJ, and the man himself Gordo, Andy awarded Kyle his well deserved Brown belt and was honoured to be assisted it tying the belt by Gordo.
The reason that it was done this way is because Kyle has had a bit of an unconventional history.
He started training at the same club as Andy back in 2013 when Andy was a blue belt. Kyle disappeared after a couple of months and we found out that he had gone to Rio De Janeiro to learn at the source. Initially he had planned to go for a couple of months.
18 months later he came back speaking fluent Portuguese with a well worn blue belt awarded to him by Gordo himself.
A few years later he went on a training holiday to Singapore to train with his good friend Tiago Gaspary, a Gordo black belt. While he was there Tiago awarded him his purple belt.
When Brotherhood was set up in July 2019 Kyle didn’t hesitate to come down to train with us and has been a regular on the mats ever since. He has had a few breaks for injuries but has been a beast on the mats for the past few years and won his division at the Brighton spring open last year. So when Andy had the opportunity to keep the connection to Gordo for Kyle it was an easy decision.
The club had a good outing last weekend with the lads showing great heart and showcasing some of their grappling and striking skills.
Couldn’t have asked for any more from them.
Great Thai Boxing session today.

TONIGHT - NOGI SPARRING 19:00-20:30
First session free!
Very true words about competition prep from someone that knows what they are talking about.
No shortcuts and no easy path.
The competition mats don’t lie.
You know in your heart if you are doing your best, and on competition day you will have to come to terms with that. Whether you like it or not, the reality of your preparation will ring true in your mind louder than ever before. As you are standing on the edge of the mat, you will know whether you deserve to win or not, and you will remember every single shortcut that you took. If you cut corners, if you shied away from hard training sessions, if you partied when you should have been resting, if you had a s**t diet, or if you gave up because things got uncomfortable… you will remember it well. No matter what the case, if you didn’t give your best, your mind will rightly reward you with a healthy dose of self-doubt. And in this case, doubt is what you deserve. However, if you know deep down inside that you did your best to prepare, if you know you didn’t take shortcuts, that you put in the extra effort, that you gave your best everyday. Then you’ll be able to stand firmly with confidence. Because you will know in your heart and mind that you are capable of winning, that you are prepared to win, and that you deserve to win. Does it guarantee your victory? No, of course not. But you have a much better chance of succeeding without carrying the burden of self-doubt.
