It is amazing the amount of natural light you achieve with a lightwell. Our client requested that we make their new basement feel as light and spacious as though it were part of the main house upstairs. The floor to ceiling lightwell was the perfect choice, with French doors which open onto a small feature courtyard area. From above the glass can be walked on and blends seamlessly with the patio area.

Create additional space for the family to take the pressure off the main house is something we are often asked to undertake for our clients. Our brief was to build an entertainment hub for two growing teenagers. The disused cellar is now a perfect games room. We even managed to squeeze in a wine cabinet for the adults! Of particular note is the bespoke ventilation system installation which fills the space with fresh air and will keep it fresh and dry for many years to come.

A multi-use area providing a precious 35 sqm of additional room for our client. Their newly created space is hidden beneath their Victorian cottage, located in a sought-after conservation area which limited their possibilities of extending above ground.
Our conversion added a media room, home office, play area and family bathroom, providing the client with valuable living space in what was a damp, disused cellar.
The basement has been maximised with bespoke joinery, adding plenty of storage and allowing the space to function well as a multi-use area.

Creating access whilst respecting the original design and architecture of the property is vital. One of our recently completed projects, adding 50m² of living space beneath the original property. The new extended basement now contains a bathroom, utility room, bedroom and multi-use room. Lightwells were added to the main rooms to ensure the property benefitted from natural light. Reinforced lightwells were commissioned to ensure that our client retained use of their off street parking, a rare gem in St Albans!

Using every square inch of our clients newly formed basement is vital and we often find that areas without natural daylight in the basement lend themselves well to creating a utility room. St Albans Basement recently provided work experience placements to local students.
They did a great job and from the thank you cards we received we think they enjoyed the opportunity.
A wet room created within the newly excavated basement of our clients’ home. Originally a character cottage in a conservation area with restricted space our client now has a spacious wet room with underfloor heating and we even managed to create an external window to allow fresh air to circulate the space and natural light to flood in.
We were delighted to work with Build It magazine when asked for expert insight on key factors to consider when thinking about a project below ground. The feature covered wide ranging aspects from Building Regulations to access logistics and included a useful checklist for a habitable space. A recently completed project in the St Albans Cathedral conservation area. Above ground, the double storey extension provided the space to reconfigure upstairs. The old bathroom and bedrooms were replaced with two light and airy children’s bedrooms, a master bedroom and a family bathroom.

We are looking for an experienced Fit Out Foreman, with the ability to be hands on if required, to run several of our ongoing projects in St Albans and North London.
Liaising with clients, working with technical drawings, problem solving, ordering materials, staying on time and on budget are all in a day’s work.
Get in touch if you have strong communication and leadership skills.
We are looking for someone with an eye for detail and the bigger picture too. In return we can provide you with a competitive rate of pay dependent on experience.
Minimum of 10 years experience.
Based in St Albans and North London.
