Cornwall has many legends and myths set in our ancient landscape. Some of our stories resemble Australian songlines, the paths on which the ancestors of the aborigines sang into existence and created all the visible world. These routes were mystical, and spiritual, and every rock, tree, river or water hole is sacred.

If they are not sung the land loses its spirit and dies.

St Ives Judo Easter Course was founded by Major Mike O’Neill in 1963. This event was a first in Cornwall for Judo and this along with the dedication and skill of the late ‘John Couch’ and members, quickly inspired the creation of Judo Clubs across Cornwall and the Guildhall Easter meet became an exciting annual event in the Judo calendar. Secrets of the Stones Series 2 starts on Wednesday February 21st in the Guildhall Upper Rooms.

The winter sky is adorned with sparkling constellations and celestial wonders. It has stirred the imagination of people across millennia, from the captivating story of Orion the Hunter and the seven sisters of the Pleiades in Greek mythology to more indigenous tales of winter cycles and meteor showers.

These celestial narratives have enriched our understanding of the cosmos while imparting lessons about courage and love, at the darkest time of the year. Winter's starry expanse continues to beckon us to look up and ponder the meaning of the Universe.

Join Carolyn Kennett on the 21st February in the Guildhall Upper Rooms to explore winter sky stories linking them to the megalithic wonders on our doorstep.

The wonderful St Ives Farmers Market is now back in The Island Centre each Monday (9:30am-2pm) while the Guildhall is closed for renovations.

St Ives Town Council are delighted to welcome Léon Phillips, as Interim Guildhall General Manager (Technical Lead)

The Interim General Manager will play a vital role in the Councils St Ives Town Deal Funded development project. Over the coming months Léon will be working closely with the Cultural Services Manager and wider project team, re-defining the operational systems, technical equipment and infrastructure, contributing to the construction project towards the successful re-opening of the Guildhall venue in Spring 2025.

Léon brings with him a wealth of experience with an extensive sound engineering and music background which includes production management of events and tours from clubs to stadiums. Moving to St Ives in 2001 to take up position of Product Manager for an audio console manufacturer (Allen & Heath Ltd), he helped deliver a successful range of digital solutions for the Installation, Live events, and Theatre markets, world-wide.

Prior to his relocation to Cornwall, Léon was Managing Director of an 800-capacity licenced premises (The Faversham Leeds Ltd); an iconic 26-room Victorian mansion with a vibrant entertainment schedule, 3 bars and a restaurant. More recently he brought his experience to a new role as Music Technician for Truro and Penwith Academy Trust serving three local Secondary schools.

🕑 to Classic NYE antics at the Guildhall thanks to the brilliant The Sandy Acre 7 who brought serious party vibes! Fabulous night rounded off with everyone heading down to watch the fireworks at the harbour - one of the largest NYE celebrations in the UK after Edinburgh & London!

🕑 This time last year we were gearing up for an amazing DJ set courtesy of Charlie Boon, performing in his hometown of St Ives.

Since then, he’s only gone and played Glastonbury, as well as releasing a handful of singles!

We’d love to have him back when we reopen in the future!

Our hall refurbishment project is well underway and we wanted to give you an update....

You may remember our baby grand piano needed a temporary home, well it is safe and sound at Redruth's Wesley Chapel where it will be played with love. We thank all of you who offered to take the piano.

Below is a message from the team at Redruth Wesley Chapel:
‘Having just signed the licence to use the Wesley Chapel in Redruth for live music events, we are delighted to have been loaned the Bechstein Grand Piano from St Ives Town Council. We are planning lots of lovely events to bring the gorgeous space with its fabulous acoustics back to life in 2024 and beyond. We have dates in the calendar for Cornwall Symphony Chorus' Summer Concert and we are sure the piano will be well used.’

Led by artist, writer and musician Keith Sparrow, The Bowie Lounge seeks to engage people with David Bowie’s words and music in a way unlike any other show. Not your ordinary tribute band, this is a unique response to - and celebration of - the music and life of David Bowie, combining music, art, dance and spoken word.
