Punk Panther Endurance Events Nidderdale Way (sort of!)
You're probably sick of hearing from me today but I thought I'd round things off.
A big thank you to everybody who has helped me to get to this point.
So far we have raised an amazing Β£1086.60 for Blood Cancer UK, once all offline donations have been included. Once again I am humbled by your kindness and generosity to have raised over a grand for three campaigns in a row!
My page will remain open until 18th November if anyone would still like to contribute. I'll do a final update on the total then.
www.justgiving.com/page/sillyhatrunner2023
I'll be taking a year off from fundraising whilst I try to get stronger so I can do more stupid things in 2025. However, I will be doing an equivalent run to the Nidderdale Way at some point next year and when I do, I'll pop on my Blood Cancer UK t-shirt and tell you all about it. My page will be closed by then but I'll point you in the direction of the usual blood cancer UK site in case you feel inspired to donate then too!
Finally, if you like following actual running part of what I do, I always accept new followers on Strava (Calvin Summersall-Frith)

Good Evening!
I'm just sending this picture of my outfit ready for Punk Panther Endurance Events tomorrow because with the current forecast, it's likely to be mostly hidden under a rain coat then! 🌧️
Sorry Laveracks at Wetherells , the apron that you lent me didn't seem to have any tie ribbons on. Still thought I'd give you a mention as a thank you for your efforts. Thank you to my Selby Striders Running Club friend Phillip at Dawson and Sons for supplying a replacement at short notice.
I've been wearing silly hats and for Blood Cancer UK since May in honour of my father in law who died of Leukemia six years ago and my mother who survived Leukemia in her thirties and is still going strong now that I'm in my thirties.
If you'd like to learn more and donate, click here:
www.justgiving.com/page/sillyhatrunner2023
Tomorrow, I'll be dressed as a butcher because my father in law was a butcher all of his life and my wife and her sister were convinced for most of their childhood that the classic butcher statue was based on their dad.
Unfortunately, due to fracturing a couple of toes last week, I won't be running the but I will be completing part of the course on a scooter and supporting the event through the day.
Finally, keep your eyes on Facebook tomorrow morning as I'll be doing some soggy Facebook live posts with some thank you messages for donors. Facebook will only let me tag in people who follow the Selby's Silly Hat Runner page so if you've donated please do like the page so you can see your message.

day 163
Today didn't have any special events or celebrations that I could wear a hat for so I looked through my posts for the hat which has received the most likes this year and the winner was these from Selby Striders Running Club Silly Hat Party.
Here's a picture of me outside Creative Crafts & Curios to say thank you for their donation to Blood Cancer UK through my page.
I've been and now in for Blood Cancer UK since May. We've raised Β£760 so far. See my fundraising page to learn about my story my and help us to raise even more:

day 161
It was yesterday.
So I wore a huge head. It's also the first time for months that I've worn leggings and a long sleeved base layer so when a couple asked "what are you dressed like that for?", I wasn't sure which part of my outfit they were referring to.
So we have a plan for Saturday now πŸ₯³
Clearly, (thanks to my broken toes) I won't be able to run 55 miles up hill and down dale at Punk Panther Endurance Events ☹️
So I'm going to set off at the start and do the road sections of the first half loop and then crossing the finish line at Pateley Bridge. This is about 6 to 10 miles on a scooter which St John's Catholic Specialist School have kindly lent to me.
So this is pretty different to the original plan but the best I can do to give this campaign a finale. If you are a lovely business that have put up my posters, maybe you could take a marker pen to it so it is more reflective of the new plan. I'd hate to feel like someone donated under misinformation.

It's so here I am with some porridge, which mainly stayed on my head. πŸ™„
I'm very excited and a touch star struck because Ryk Downes creator of Punk Panther Endurance Events called me!! 🀩
They have been extremely supportive about my situation and have said that they're very happy for me to go along and cross the finish line on a scooter on Saturday. So I haven't finalised a full plan yet but that will certainly be part of it. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

πŸ„πŸ„Happy !! πŸ„πŸ„
Right! Don't get over excited yet. I'm just experimenting. πŸ˜†πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜†πŸ˜ƒ
I've had a tough week (thank you for everyone's kind words and support regarding my injury) but it just doesn't seem right for the campaign to come to such an abrupt stop after so many months of hard training, making hats, early mornings, and everybody's wonderful and generous support. So I'm going to do something next weekend to finish off the fundraising campaign for Blood Cancer UK but not sure what, at this moment.
Here's a list of things I can't do:
- Run at all
- Walk faster than a tortoise
- ride a bike
But we're still exploring what I can do. Hence, here I am on a scooter! 😜

(Should be) day 156
I am devastated to say that this is my foot! πŸ₯Ί
I've had an accident during a harmless football game with my kids and have broken my toes in 3 possibly 4 places. This could take 6-8 weeks to heal.
Unfortunately my friends, this means that running Punk Panther Endurance Events way for Blood Cancer UK next Saturday is looking very unlikely.
Please forgive me if I go quiet for a few days while my family and I make a plan. I certainly won't be running for a while. ☹️
Sorry for the depressing post, but next time you hear from me I'll be super positive because I'll have a plan for how to give this campaign a satisfactory completion.
I'm just off to cry into a pillow. 😭

day 153
It's in the .
Ironically, this was a bit of a messy one. 🀦🏽 The hat was fine for 5 miles before Selby parkrun but at about 400 metres in the crate just fell apart spilling everything on the floor! I'm so sorry to anyone that was put off by this or had their park run time affected. I tried to keep to the side because I knew it was a possibility. 😬
Basically, as any one at the park run will have seen, the hat just didn't want to stay on. 🀷🏼 The bubble bath thankfully stayed intact until I was on the way back to my car but then it fell off and split open and by the time I got back to my car I was clarted in it! πŸ˜†

A big thank you to Selby Striders Running Club for joining in the fun tonight at my last club run in a silly hat. We had some cake and shared out the silly hats.
I'm not sure how fast I'll be on the 21st at Punk Panther Endurance Events way BUT I do know that, thanks to the support, encouragement and advice, I will run the best race that I'm currently capable of.

Well September's gone and we're in the final month of the campaign! I'm so grateful for all the donations and as we entered October the total was Β£550! With Β£60 being raised during October for Blood Cancer UK
So let's give a big hand to those wonderful donors:
Anne, Anonymous, Chris Stanley, Martin S, and Pete Thornton. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Thank you also to the people that keep raising awareness of my campaign through:
- interacting with my social media,
- telling other people about me
- putting up my poster in their business
A huge thank you to Selby Striders Running Club who have just featured me in their club social media and in their slot in the Selby Times.
Thank you also of course to my beautiful family: we're nearly there guys!
Finally, thank you for your support and concern on Saturday when I was unwell. I'm fine now, I hope nobody was too concerned. I'm one of those lucky people who doesn't stay ill for long. I probably would have been fine if I hadn't tried to run a fast (for me) park run and then the four miles home just as fast. πŸ™„

day 146
I have to admit that I've been unwell today and probably shouldn't have done this 11 mile run today. (I even had to call my wife ❀️ to collect me which has never happened in over 10 years of running) But I was just too excited about this hat and cataloguing the incredible abilities of the people of , and Selby parkrun .
This is to celebrate The Big Draw which is taking place tomorrow.
I shall be taking tomorrow off to try and shake off this cheeky infection but I'm not too worried because my taper period starts on Monday so it's all about rest and staying healthy at this point in the training.

Sorry it's late but, yes, I fell asleep whilst writing this post last night again. πŸ˜†
Yesterday it was Selby Food & Drink Festival so I went along with a basket of food. I also visited lots of businesses to ask them to sort me by putting my poster up. An incredible number offered and I ran out of posters!! Thank you to Had-Tech. for printing them for me. See the list of businesses that have helped below, sorry if I've missed anyone, there were alot to remember. If you took a poster and I've missed you please just holler in the comments.
Also, whilst I was in the Co-op queue on Flaxley road, two gentlemen have me the change out of their pockets which easily amounted to at least £15!! 😳😊 So generous!
Finally apologies to BarberLou and The Big Communi-Tea for my presumptuousness in just putting the poster through your letter box. Unfortunately, you were closed by the time I reached you.

So if you know these people, please tag them in on the comments section so they know about this public thanks.
The total currently stands at Β£490.
πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘So let's give a round of applause for:
Liz and Kunj and their girls, Fal, Jane , Rachel, Helen, Mary, Anonymous, Andy in Hambleton Nicola, Sue and friends, Annette, Claire and Ellie, Jess, Abbey Blinds and Binny . Plus a number of on-the-street-donations from complete strangers who I am unable to tag in and some anonymous online donations.
Also, as always I am so grateful to my family who have put up with my shenanigans as well as driving me around for Recce runs, helping me choose and make the hats and just generally believing in me.
Although, we started and ended with the fun of the Yorkshire puddings and the Balloons, the middle few weeks were a real challenge due to some nasty blisters and insect bites.
I cannot express enough how helpful, every little wave, horn beep, heckle, brief chat, social media like/share/comment helps on the days when you want to give up or not get out of bed early in the morning.
You're all brill and every single penny raised for Blood Cancer UK can be attributed to your support and encouragement.
