Sheffield BMA MSC
Owain Evans and Joy Bamidele - BMA medical student council reps for Sheffield Medical School
Advice during industrial action this week
As you will know, junior doctors are striking on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week over pay.
If you are on placement, beware of being asked to fulfil the role of a junior doctor. If you are being pressured, please refuse and notify the BMA. Working outside your level of competency not only undermines our junior doctor colleagues, but can also have repercussions for your career.
If you are not on placement, please consider showing your support at one of the below locations. Homemade placards will be very welcome!

Want to show your support for junior doctors on strike next week?
Joy and I will be in the Medical School tomorrow from 16:30 with lanyards, pens, badges and stickers for you to take.
Come along to pick up some freebies and ask any questions you may have about the upcoming industrial action!
The BMA is also running a webinar in the evening to explain ways in which you can support the strike. Sign up here https://www.bma.org.uk/events/medical-students-and-strikes-what-can-you-do-to-help
BMA members have voted in favour of industrial action with a huge 98% yes vote on a 77% turnout.
This is an amazing result and shows that enough is enough. Doctors have seen their pay fall by 26% and it’s time for pay restoration.
As medical students, a successful strike and restoration of pay has a huge impact on us, and I hope you will continue to lend your support to our doctor colleagues.
Joy and I will be distributing lanyards, badges, pens and stickers in the coming weeks so you can display your support. We will share advice on how you can support the campaign, and how you can keep yourselves safe on placement.
UKFPO changes
Health Education England (HEE) have launched a review of the UK Foundation Programme (UKFPO) allocation process.
They are currently consulting on whether the process should remain in its current format which sees applicants ranked according to their FP Score based on an Educational Performance Measure (EPM) and their Situational Judgement Test (SJT) mark or move to a new system that will see each applicant given a computer-generated ranking.
What can you do?

MOTION VOTING RESULTS
Thank you very much for your motion submissions for the BMA Medical Students Conference 2023. I was very impressed with the quantity and quality of motions submitted by Sheffield students.
As you know, we can only take three motions (and their authors) to conference. Therefore after voting by your peers I can announce the authors of the motions receiving the most votes are as follows:
1. Samuel David Harper
2. Oscar Han
3. Hafeez Ullah Meharban.
Congratulations to Samuel, Oscar and Hafeez! Thank you to everyone else who submitted motions; they were all brilliant.
Please get in touch with any questions.
Have a lovely Christmas
