Design is everywhere and has a profound effect on our quality of life. So why aren’t the places we live, work and play in better for everyone? Join us for an open conversation in the round, where we invite you to share reflections and ideas on the impact of design and how we can take action to realise better quality places. This conversation aims to bring together a wide-ranging audience from communities, practice, education and policy to explore the perspectives and realities of different experiences of place and placemaking: personal, professional and collective.
Instead of the traditional panel of speakers, we’ll share crowd-sourced voices to prompt discussion. We’re particularly keen to explore how people and organisations can work more collaboratively and creatively locally on the design of places: join the conversation in Sheffield to share your questions, ideas and experiences.
Spaces are limited so please register.

Silent Cities is going dormant for a bit while I join the SYHA team as Marketing Comms Manager. Very excited! Anyway, this means that we need to be out of our office in just two weeks! Eek! So we have a wonderful office space fully equipped with interesting furniture for a good price if anyone or anyone you know is looking for office space/interesting furniture (including children's original school desks, a row of cinema seats...) Pics to follow next week, plus a possible yard sale party thingy. Please share with anyone who might be interested in office down Kelham way/unusual furniture. Thanks!
Exciting news! The Age Better campaign developed by Silent Cities with for South Yorkshire Housing Association won National Outstanding Campaign of the Year Award in London last night. Woop woop! Best of all, it helped bring in 6m to reduce isolation and loneliness for older people in Sheffield (I may have mentioned that before;-) Proof that investing in creativity really can make a big difference - both to the profile of the organisations we support, and helping the most vulnerable in our city.

So many communities have succeeded in transforming the places in which they live, work and play, yet the relationships between the different parties involved in placemaking remain challenging, and in some cases fail miserably.
