Recently we refurbished a floor in a laboratory that had been recently installed. The welded joints had been incorrectly welded and the floor was heavily scratched. We repaired and rewelded all the joints, fully scrubbed and cleaned the floor and applied a pu anti-colour resin seal to protect the flooring from further damage. Repairs to subfloor cracks
Usually if repairs are not carried out in the concrete can certainly result in a failed decorative floor finish. On this particulat slab, we had issues with numerous cracks in the substrate, which are non-structural, but needed attention so as not to crack the smoothing compound which was to be poured later.
Solution: using Ardex P10 SR, which is a 2 part rapid hardening epoxy, we are able to pour in the substrate crack, allow to hardened after approx 20minutes and hey presto crack repaired.
Using a floor saw we cross jointed the cracks to install metal 'stiches' to help prevent movement and remain stable.
Make sure your contractor can do the repairs what you don't see once the floor finish is installed, as this can be an expensive mistake
Preparing this substrate with a 5inch grinder for small areas will create a great profile...... why? A MUST for applying a leveling compound and removing any contaminants that could compromise the bond. Maintaining that bond will make sure the final floor finish, either vinyl or decorative topping will stay and keep strong under the heaviest of uses. If Contractors are not removing the loose and friable screeds/concrete, this could be an expensive mistake for the installer and client. www.unlimitedflooringsheffield.com
