This coming Wednesday (7th of August), Nye from Finale Guitar and the Finale Music School will be running the brilliant open mic night at The Abbey, Sheffield (Sheffield) with Matt Chew Higgins ! Please do come down and play us a few songs- it's a very relaxed and friendly evening with a supportive crowd, full PA and drum kit provided. 8:30 until late.

We want to give a huge shout-out to Clare, who first called in to Finale Guitar about two years ago to buy her first electric guitar after a very long hiatus. Here's what she's up to now:

"On the 18th August I will be performing at an event called:1000 Lights, at The Birmingham Utilita Arena alongside 999 other musicians where we will be playing 2 songs from the Alternative Rock Band Linkin Park - we will be joined by approximately 30 other musicians who will complete the set list for an evening of Alternative Rock, in honour of Chester Bennington (Frontman from Linkin Park) who sadly took his life after a long battle with mental ill health. Chester Bennington received little support and despite talking openly about his struggles, no one picked up on the signs before it was too late.

We are fundraising for the Uprawr Mental Health Foundation, by playing a huge concert at the venue, where this talented young musician played his last show.

The Uprawr Mental Health Foundation was set up following Chester Benningtons Su***de to provide Free counselling and support to young people in the UK (the charity is based in Birmingham) who cannot access mental health services:
www.uprawrfoundation.org – they target young people from the alternative music community, as they are often found to be people who struggle and do not access support easily.

I have experienced my own struggles over the years, particularly with body image and self-confidence issues and have found that music has always been a lifeline. I started playing guitar on and off from the age of 12 and after a long break, decided to pick up my instrument again, 2 years ago following the sudden loss of my mother to lung cancer. This loss drove me to work harder than ever before with my guitar playing, as it taught me that life is fragile, and our passions are hugely important to our Emotional Wellbeing. It taught me that I can be a role model to my son, by working hard at something important to me. This charity is incredibly close to my heart and I want to help them, to continue the amazing work that they do.

It was fascinating to meet Wolfgang yesterday who cryogenically freezes electric guitars in order to artificially age the tonewoods. The before and after audio demos are really quite impressive!
