This week
Yesterday marked 7 years of The Royal Oak, Whatcote. (in its current guise) It’s absolutely flown by and we have loved every minute of it (apart from that curfew rule when we had to usher everyone out by 10. That was weird.) It felt fitting that legendary landlord, Rocket Ronnie (IYKYK), who held the Oak for 14 years, was in the building too🥰
It’s an honour to be custodians of a building this old with a history as deep, and we’re grateful that we’ve been able to call this home for the past 7 years. Here’s to many more 🍻

Richard and the team are really looking forward to this collaboration with Purslane Restaurant celebrating the Cheltenham Food and Drink Week next month.
Richard and Gareth worked together at the Kingham Plough back in the day and are joining forces to showcase the best that September has to offer.
Head over to Purslane’s page to book.
On Wednesday, September 18th, Purslane Restaurant
will be hosting a Land and Sea event in collaboration with
Michelin-starred chef Richard Craven from The Royal Oak Whatcote. The evening will be a celebration of the
changing season in honour of Cheltenham Food and Drink
Week, featuring a 7-course tasting menu created by both
Richard and Purslane’s Gareth Fulford.
The event, which will be sponsored by Poulton Hill Estate, marks 16 years since Richard and Gareth first
worked together at the award-winning Kingham Plough,
both having since gone on to open their own respective
restaurants but remaining firm friends. Richard and his
wife Solanche gained their Michelin star at The Royal Oak
in October 2019.
“It’ll be great getting the old band back together,” says
Gareth. “Rich’s dishes focus primarily on terroir-driven
wild meats and foraged ingredients, while ours celebrate
the best of British seafood and seasonal produce. It’ll be
a fantastic combination.”
Fallow venison and Cornish lobster will be the main stars
of the menu and diners will have the opportunity to pair it
with a carefully curated matching wine flight.
Arrival will be from 7pm with a glass of Poulton Hill Bulari served to
each guest. The first course will be served at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available at £130 per person.
Gooseberry, meadowsweet, honey
