This is Harlie. Everyone at Skipton AC thinks Harlie is a superstar. Harlie has competed in most of the local fell races this summer in the under 9s category. These photos were taken at Kilnsey Show where she was 2nd girl and 5th out of 17 runners! Well done on your brilliant running Harlie (your mummy and grandad did quite well at Kilnsey, too ๐Ÿ˜‰).

Feeling inspired by the Olympics to get off the sofa and do something active? Fancy being the next Paula Radcliffe or Mo Farah (ok, well that may be a bit of a stretch ๐Ÿ˜‚) but everyone has to start somewhere! Our next Couch to 5k programme starts next week and it's absolutely FREE!

We may be small but we are mighty! Congratulations to all of our runners who took part in the Harrogate and District Summer Race League, especially to Tom, Jack and Chris for winning the elite men's trophy ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Running isn't all about racing! Sometimes it's all about cake! This morning, some of us had a social run with Upper Wharfedale Runners: a lovely circular route from Airton, finishing at Town End Farm Shop cafรฉ. It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿฐ

Our next couch to 5k course starts 8th August. All welcome! It's completely free! Previous courses have been really successful and the 'graduates' have gone on to become super runners!

We want to say a big thank you to Skipton AC, who are our partners for Run Bolton Abbey. Last year, they helped raise a fantastic ยฃ13,000 to support our vital care!

Paul Norman from Skipton AC says, "Skipton AC are delighted to help out at Run Bolton Abbey where the run routes are fantastic and to support Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice."

Run Bolton Abbey is a fantastic event where you can run the beautiful trails of Bolton Abbey Estate. Choose from a 10k, 10 mile, half marathon, or a fun run for the whole family.

If you fancy lacing up your trainers to run the beautiful route through the abbey grounds on Sunday, 10th November, sign up at sueryder.org/support-us/fundraise/events/sue-ryder-run-bolton-abbey-2024

We all know that life is tough sometimes and life events can affect your mental health. Hopefully, we also know that running cannot only support your physical health but your mental health too.
England Athletics run a program to support mental health called . Mental health charity, Mind, has designated today is 'Time to Talk Day' so tonight we had our first event where club members ran in pairs at a pace where they could easily talk to each other. It was a great success and we will be doing more events the future.
In the meantime, please take a minute or two to check in with someone you haven't seen for a while; it can make a big difference.

Skipton AC had a club visit to the lovely Fountains Abbey parkrun. We were wearing white ribbons to highlight problems of men's violence against women.

Today's shenanigans took place at the beautiful and atmospheric Bowling Park parkrun. Some 31 Skipton AC members travelled to Bradford to run/walk that blooming hill 3 times ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต
Afterwards we were serenaded by our very own moustachioed maestro on the piano at The Lodge, Bowling Park where we enjoyed refreshments and a singalong.
It was a really special morning. Thanks to all the lovely marshals and cafรฉ staff for making it possible ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wow! What a week! 3 York Marathon runners, 4 x half marathons, 3 x 10 mile racers, a Peak District fell race, 13 Abbey Dashers, 12 Yorkshire Trodders (100km, 50km & 25km), a Punk Panther and a Haworth Withins Skyline runner. That's almost 600 miles, hundreds of feet of hills, a lot of tired legs and plenty of rehydration. Cheers ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‰

14/10/2023

This morning we took our passports and ventured over the border to Lancashire for Burnley parkrun. 25 of us turned the home of the clarets to yellow as we took part in the first parkrun of our Grand Prix series and enjoyed coffee and homemade flapjack afterwards ๐Ÿ˜‹ Thanks Burnley parkrun for making us welcome ๐Ÿ‘

What - a - weekend.

Weโ€™re used to determination, helpfulness, camaraderie and the odd few medals at Skipton AC but last weekend will be hard to beat.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ At the Yorkshireman Marathon & Half Marathon, we had the overall winner of the Half Marathon, a category winner in the Marathon and one member who gave up his race to help an injured runner

๐ŸŒ‰ Several members ran the Great North Run, including members whose love for running was kindled by our Couch to 5k (C25k) programme last year

โฑ๏ธ One member supported the Vale of York Half Marathon as a pacer with amazing precision

๐Ÿ’ช Other members touted the yellow vests as tourists at Sixfields Upton parkrun and demoed expert Brucey Bonuses

๐Ÿช‘ Two members enjoyed the deckchairs after supporting the Malham runs whilst two others went on to win their categories in the 10k and half marathon

๐Ÿ Closer to home, several members took part in the Bradley Show fell races and we had a podium finish for one of our Under 14s

Well done everyone! So how do we unwind from all that? With an organised rehydration and glycogen replenishment session this evening! ๐Ÿป

Well done to the โ€œFantastic Fourโ€ Helen, Sharon, Suzanne and Charlotte, who finished the Bradford Race For Life 10k at the weekend! Seeing them all complete the Couch to 5K programme last year and keep on going has been so wonderful that we can even forgive them for mixing DC and Marvel ๐Ÿ˜

A new C25K course is starting soon and it's completely free! The photo on the flyer shows last year's graduates, some of whom have now done 10k races and are signed up to run a half marathon. We can't guarantee that you'll be running half marathons next year BUT you'll have fun, meet new people and feel good. Why not give it a try? You've nothing to lose!

On Tuesday some of our runners completed the first of three 'Bunny Runs' organised by Wharfedale Harriers. A hilly 3 mile dash around Pen*stone Country Park above Haworth was rewarded with an Easter egg! We love a run with chocolate at the end ๐Ÿ˜‹ Happy Easter and happy running ๐Ÿฃ

What a turnout at Skipton parkrun this weekend! There were yellow vests galore!
We had 31 Skipton AC runners, several SAC volunteers and lots of cake! We took the top 5 parkrun spots and there were some big milestones, too, including Tom C who ran his 100th parkrun, Richard P who ran his 250th and Dave G who ran his 100th at Skipton.
Well done to the Couch to 5k group who graduated and to those who took part in the grand finale of this year's parkrun Grand Prix series. Hope to see you at parkrun soon ๐Ÿ˜Š

It was a bit of an emotional one this morning as we ran Halifax parkrun, on their 8th birthday, in memory of our friend, the late James Kirkpatrick โค๏ธ Thanks to the 'Halifax Hard-core' at Skipton AC that made it to Shroggs Park and to Halifax parkrun for the lovely shout out (and cake!) ๐Ÿฅฐ
Thanks to Paul Norman for the crocus photos.

Our latest parkrun Grand Prix leg was to Bradford parkrun at the majestic Lister Park. We had truly impressive performances with members battling injuries, forgotten barcodes and battalions of visiting schoolchildren but still securing PBs galore, a womenโ€™s podium place and an amazing age graded performance of over 80%!

There was another stellar traybake performance and we headed to Tambourine Coffee afterwards for even more replenishment and recaffeination.
