We have three different groups: Creative Writers, Junior Writers and Young Writers. In all of our writing groups you can learn about creating characters, settings, storylines, explore scriptwriting, creating monologues, duologues and performances, and develop a portfolio of writing skills! Our groups are designed for those in school years 3 - 13 and take place weekly during term time. Book your space on our website by searching 'writers'

5 - 9 November 2024

& Juliet is a new musical that puts empowerment front and centre, essentially flipping Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet on its head and that's what you have here. You'll be introduced to May, Juliet's best friend and you will get to see May go on a journey of self-discovery of their gender and love as they form relationships throughout the story. This inclusive and celebratory musical is also jam-packed with iconic pop anthems from the 1990s right through to the 2010s!

Ahead of a week of performances of Madagascar the Musical at Mayflower Theatre, Connor Keetley (Skipper/Maurice) and James Hilton-Foster (ensemble) escaped to Marwell Zoo, to get stuck in with the zookeepers and see what is really involved in living and breathing the zoo environment.

Their day included:
🦒 Feeding the giraffes
🪣 Feeding the lemurs (and meeting a real King Julien!)
🦓 Laying hay for the zebras
🪣 Feeding the yellow mongoose
🐧 And introducing the show’s monkey and penguin puppets to the real life penguins from the zoo

Both Connor and James have close local connection to Mayflower Theatre as Alumni of our Engage offering.
Connor Keetley was the proud recipient of one of the Montagu Bursaries and Mayflower Theatre Higher Education Bursaries in 2018/2019. Connor has also starred in three Mayflower Summer Youth Projects – Guys and Dolls (2017), Pirates of Penzance (2016) and Five of the Best (2014) as well as also being a Team Leader on the 2019 Summer Youth Project, Peter Pan. James was also involved in Peter Pan, where he starred as Mr Darling, as well as staring in Les Misérables (2018) and Guys and Dolls (2017). James then returned to the Summer Youth Project in 2021 and 2022 where he was the Assistant Choreographer for both The Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical and Summer Holiday. James and Connor also both celebrated 10 years of Mayflower Summer Youth Projects at SYP10 in 2023.
