Name: Beth O’Dell🌻
Course: History with a Year Abroad📚
Position and Employer: Assistant Education Leader at Ufton Court Educational Trust✏️
📓What were your responsibilities?
As part of the education team, I was responsible for helping to run educational residential trips for primary school students. This mainly consisted of supporting, and later running, sessions for outdoor learning and immersive history. I was also challenged to help rework old sessions to make them more engaging for the children.
📅What did you do day-to-day?
After a meeting establishing which school groups were on site that day, and who was responsible for each activity, we would go to set up. Between 9 and 10, activities begin, and we would each run a few before and a few after lunch. This could include handling replica Tudor artefacts, playing Saxon games, or learning to fight like a Viking. If a new school was coming in that day, we would show them around the house and explain all the health and safety points. I also worked some evenings, helping to run themed banquets for the children.
📈How has doing this internship has been beneficial for your career development?
This internship consolidated my own understanding of what sort of work I would like to do in the future as I really enjoyed working outside and with children. I have been interested in interactive history education for a long time and this gave me an opportunity to see various approaches in action. The staff at Ufton were very friendly and all had great insights as to what makes effective and accessible education for children, and I will carry these ideas forward into my future career.

🎨 I’m so excited to share my incredible journey as a Design Management student at Wi******er School of Art! 🌟
This year, I had the amazing opportunity to intern as a carnival designer with Play To The Crowd, starting in March at Theatre Royal Wi******er. Working alongside my fantastic mentor, Hat Fair producer Hannah Jones, I had the chance to design puppets, craft props, and plan for community projects in Wi******er and with the Carnival Company on the Isle of Wight. 🎭✨
As an international student, this was my first internship in the UK, and I embraced every moment of it! The friendly community and supportive colleagues made the experience truly unforgettable. 🌍💖 This internship not only boosted my confidence but also deepened my passion for creative work. The best part? I received a job offer in China as a design teacher! 🇨🇳👩🎨
I’m so grateful to Hannah for her guidance and to the amazing team at Play To The Crowd for making this experience so special. I’ll always cherish these memories and can’t wait to see where my creative journey takes me next! 🌠

My internship revolves around conducting extensive research on prospect donors to support our cause, preserving motoring history. I am delighted and very grateful to be part of this team, working towards something I hold truly close to me. A typical day involves using relevant search webs with felicitous keywords to guide the results in my favour. My effort translates into a concrete base for my supervisors to utilise when pitching clients and prospects, saving time and money.
Work is mostly remote, but whenever the opportunity presents itself, I show up and assist in events, help set up the marquee, liaise with prospects and gather contact details, while enjoying the sight of beautiful vintage cars. Everyone knows my number one passion is cars. It comes as no surprise that the facet I find the most captivating is definitely the, although occasional, exposure to a vast audience of car-lovers and like-minded people at major automobile events.
Whilst reading my e-mails, I encountered the UoS Careers Website. It is very user-friendly and can offer opportunities that might suit someone perfectly. I was lucky enough to find this on time. I would definitely recommend scrolling through it and using the filters based on one's interests and discipline. The best way to make a long-lasting impression is to research the organisation and identify a timely issue and tie it back to you, your values, why it is of interest or why it stood out to you. Make sure you are aware of the dress-code, have questions ready, and have a designated notebook to make notes of anything process related that you will need down the line. Just be inquisitive. Make tons of applications, possibly even in certain positions that may seem out of reach or not intriguing to you. You always have something to extract from every experience, so surely make the most of it.🎉

Hey everyone! I'm Priya Mohan, a Design Management graduate from the University of Southampton. Let me take you through my adventures and hopefully offer some useful insights.
1. Social Media and Production Assistant at KoolSkools
It was a fantastic introduction to ethical business practices and hands-on production work. I received training on garment embroidery machines. Further, I helped in social media strategy for KoolSkools, and editing videos which showcased the story behind the ethical products delivered by KoolSkools. I also accompanied the MD on visit to universities and attending online sales meetings, which gave me firsthand experience in sales and client interactions.
2. Event Organizer Intern at Hammersley Homes
This role was all about planning and executing a charity walk to raise awareness and funds. I am in process of organizing an Autumn Walk in the New Forest involving schools and community members. Imagine planning a whole event from scratch – it is both challenging and rewarding! I worked on everything from getting permissions, managing budgets, coordinating with stakeholders, under the guidance of my senior colleagues and manager in the organization.
3. Marketing and Communications Intern at Luna Foundation
Right now, I’m a Marketing and Communications Intern at Luna Foundation, a community interest company supporting children and young people after su***de bereavement. I am currently working on the company’s social media marketing to enhance the brand outreach and engagement.
🎈Advice for Aspiring Interns
1. Highlighting Your Skills: One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the importance of showcasing your skills with concrete evidence. When applying for internships, make it easy for employers to see why you’re the right fit. Break down your skills and back them up with examples from your past experiences.
2. Acing the Interview: Be yourself and prepare thoroughly. Research the company, practice common interview questions, and most importantly, be genuine. For instance, when asked, "Why do you want to work for this company?" give three realistic reasons:
• What you can gain from the experience.
• How the company can benefit from your skills.
• How you align with the company’s values and mission.
Internships are more than just a stepping stone; they are a journey of self-discovery and professional development. The skills and experiences you gain will shape your career and personal life in ways you never imagined.
If you’re considering an internship, my advice is simple: go for it, be genuine, and always be ready to learn and adapt. The journey is just as important as the destination. 🌈
