The fabulous hosted an Introduction to Gouache class during the last week of the Easter Half-term and we had such positive feedback that we just had to share with YOU!

All the attendees scored 9 and 10 out of 10! 🤩
Attendees enjoyed learning a new type of painting material and the different techniques that they could explore with the medium 🎨

There was a lovely, friendly, and inspiring atmosphere ✨😊
We also made a great cup of Tea ☕

The attendees also mentioned that Amy had a very calm manner and that made them feel at ease, beyond entering the Dart 😌

The guests enjoyed the class so much that they never wanted their experience to end! 😲

This is going to be egg-stremely good fun!

On Wednesday 5th, the children will take part in an exciting Easter Egg trail, finding clues to win their chocolatey prize! Inspired by the trail, the children will decorate their own Easter Eggs using pretty pastel-coloured paints! They'll then take a look at 'A string of eggs' by Pierre Roy and beautiful Faberge Eggs and will be inspired to paint their own hanging Easter eggs, exploring bright and vibrant gouache paints.

The children will then make their own ‘egg-cellent’ art piece inspired by Donald Sultan’s ‘Black Eggs and Roses May 22 2000’ using fabric and coloured papers.

We'll end the day making fun egg sculptures using papier-mache and acrylic paint!

Our fabulous Art Assistant, Sarah, writes and delivers our Art Activities Programme with the assistance of our fab art support worker, Alice. They really are the dream team! 😃

The children have so much fun, not only do they get super creative and learn lots but most importantly, they feel at ease and are well cared for.

On day 2 of our Easter Arts Activities we'll be exploring all things RABBITS!

Inspired by Jeff Koons 'Rabbit' Sculpture which sold for £71 million, and Miroslaw Balka's 'After-Easter Show' exhibition, the children will make their own Easter Bunnies, using air-drying clay.

They'll make mirror paper rabbit sculptures and beautiful rabbit paintings and drawings exploring mediums such as charcoal, chalk, metallic paints, and pastels.

At the end of the day, the children will be painting rabbit-inspired greetings cards to give to their friends or families just in time for Easter!

We are excited to share the first day of our Children’s Easter Arts Activities Programme 🐥

The children will be exploring their own Easter adventure ideas through story-telling, book-making, illustration and painting.

A great opportunity for the children to let their imaginations run wild. The Dart team will give them an example of The Chick and The Egg on their quest to find the Sacred Planet in their little yellow rocket!

The children will then explore their own ideas, create stories, illustrate elements of their stories with vibrant gouache paints and fine liner pens to bring their characters and scenes to life!

We’ll finish the day making cardboard puppets of their imaginary characters!

Friday - Insects & Bugs 🐞

The children started off the morning by making their own bug sculptures with air dry clay. There was definitely some budding sculpture creators within the group!

They were inspired by various artists including ‘The Big Bugs’ sculpture gallery by David Rogers. They also looked at the Natural History Museums collection of insects to get their minds flowing. 🪲

They continued to work on their sculptures by using paint and taking photographs.

In the afternoon the children made surreal textile bugs! This was done by using fabrics, pipe cleaners, wool, buttons ect.

Finishing off the day they used inks and paints to make silhouette insects inspired by artist Yinka Shonibare’s Grain Weevil painting. 🐜

Our Half-term ‘Art for All’ session was in full swing in our Dart foyer on Thursday 16th.

We explored garden birds with Eco Arts Campaigner and our former artist in residence Lucy Tipper 🐦 🌳🌱

Our attendees painted onto surfaces, which have been pre-dyed by Lucy using her unique process. This process leaves traces and residues of the natural forms that have been used in her process…a wonderful starting point for the paintings.

We hope everyone enjoyed their session and hope to see you again soon!

Thursday - Animals 🐅

On Thursday the kids were looking at animals. They started the morning mindmapping all the animals they knew and then looked at animal abstract art such as Nathaniel Dance-Holland’s work ‘A Dog-like Dragon’, which inspired them to make their own hybrid animal drawings.

They then started looking at mono printing their favourite animals and pets, they looked at work from artists such as Dame Elizabeth Fink and Helen Beatrix Potter.

In the afternoon they watched some puppet making tricks and made their own little creatures, they then wrote scenes and produced a puppet show for the finale!

Wednesday- Sun ☀️ & Rainbows 🌈

During Wednesday’s class the kids were looking at recreating the sun with light photography by using paintings, glow sticks and projections, they saw examples from Olafur Eliasson and Yuri Pattison and took to the Auditoriums with a camera at the ready to create some fantastic imagery.

They then looked at reflections using Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ album cover and Norman Adams Rainbow painting for inspiration to create their own multi coloured masterpieces!

In the afternoon they looked at pattern madness using pencils and acrylic paints to create vibrant and unique rainbows.

They finished off the day by creating a weather collage🌤️

Tuesday- Hearts ❤️

The kids kicked off their Valentine’s day looking at repetitive heart artwork by various famous artists such as Jim Dines Four Hearts painting, which inspired them to create their own heart creations!

After a quick break they enjoyed artist Julian Trevelyan’s artwork called Valentines and created their own work based on hearts in unusual places. 💞

They then ended the day by creating their own string art heart and watercolour heart artwork.

Safe to say the kids went home with full hearts 💕

Monday- Flowers 💐 & Trees 🌳

On Monday we started the morning session by being inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Almond blossom painting.

This allowed for the children to create their own paintings based on cherry blossom trees 🌸

After a nice break we studied still life flowers with David Hockney’s Four Flowers for reference.

We then went out into the fresh air to sketch some trees around the school! 🌳
