With Spring hopefully just around the corner, people are thinking of new plants. I have been creating a new border for a client - removed turf, double dug with spade and then this week dug over with a fork. Soil is heavy clay so added grit to help with drainage. Will rake next visit and then wait for warmer weather and new plants.

Now is a good time to give your garden a feed to replenish nutrients as the flowers die back. Spring shrubs are now developing their flower buds for next years show and really appreciate a feed, but remember plants such as rhododendrons (below), camellias and magnolias need ericaceous feed.

Back at work following winter break. Started on over grown garden in the autumn last year reseeding lawn. Now focused on large gravel area removing weeds ready for summer pots.

Have been busy working on clients gardens recently, but thought I would post some pictures from my garden. Exciting time of year with last of spring flowers and promise of summer to come.

It's been a long time since I posted on this page, but I have been busy with autumn jobs in the garden. As well as pruning the roses, several shrubs and blueberry bush. Have added manure as mulch over winter, should reduce the pH level of the soil.

Spent happy half an hour in the sun doing gardening. Poor small rose has been dwarfed by self seeding hollyhocks this year. Moved to front of the bed - hopefully will improve next year.

The cosmos we sowed as seed in the spring are still giving some very welcome colour in these wet gloomy days.

Took a couple of days off to visit Bury St Edmunds and visited Abbey Gardens. Fabulous dahlias and trees changing colour

Pruned back hard a very overgrown jasmine and left just this year's new growth which will flower next year

Don't forget you can use runners on strawberry plants to produce new plants for next year. Easy to do just weight the runner down with a stone. The new plant will take root in about 10 days and then cut stem between plants. Had help from my cats.

Hollyhocks have died back after a long summer in flower. I have collected seed for next year and cut back this year's flower stems hard, but next year's foliage already making an appearance.

I cut back the early summer flowering clematis in June and it has grown back and is now about to flower for a second time!

Spent the afternoon tidying the garden and planting some new iris and daffodils ready for spring. Gave the lavender a much needed haircut!

This year I have tried my hand with growing vegetables. With mixed success. I have had a great crop of tomatoes, potatoes and blueberries. Also had a few beans. But keen to grow more next year. Even though the garden is small I can still squeeze some veg in.

Wow, just looked through my photos and can't believe the difference to the garden in just over 2 years.
