The laws around 'zombie-style' knives and weapons is changing, and from Monday 26 August, people can surrender those weapons at designated police stations across the county, and also make a claim for compensation.

To help the public comply with this change, the Home Office has launched a surrender and compensation scheme which will run until Monday, 23 September 2024. During this period, you can surrender any zombie-style knife or machete at certain police stations in Lincolnshire, and make a claim compensation to the Home Office.

Surrender bins will also be available at the designated stations for anonymous drop-offs of any kind of knife without compensation.

We have worked in collaboration with Cambridgeshire Police and made an arrest in connection with ongoing graffiti in Spalding and Peterborough. The individual is on bail pending further enquiries with stringent bail conditions to prevent further graffiti in both Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. This is not connected with the reward for information offered by South Holland District Council (SHDC). SHDC have issued a community protection warning notice, which also prohibits the individual possessing articles used to damage property. We will continue to tackle reports of Anti-social behaviour within South Holland. Please ensure any new graffiti or damage is reported to 101 promptly for us to investigate.

Over the last week we have focused some of our resources on Anti-social Behaviour, we have been taking enforcement action again several individuals in Spalding Town Centre using the powers provided by the local Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). This has included several occasions where alcohol has been surrendered and the details of perpetrators passed to South Holland District Council. Please continue to report antisocial matters to us in your local area.

Whilst doing these proactive patrols two of our Community Beat Managers detained and searched a male with a significant amount of suspected counterfeit ci******es, which led to a property search identifying further counterfeit and illegal to***co items we have provided a photo of. Trading Standards will be taking on the investigation into the matter. Principal Trading Standards Officer Andy Wright states “This is another large seizure of illegal ci******es and vapes in Spalding. The goods seized were clearly intended for retail sale in the area. We are not blind to the damaging effect businesses selling these goods have on the local community. We are grateful to our partners in the Police for the prioritising this issue. My Officers will investigate the circumstances surrounding this seizure and we will prosecute where appropriate.”

Sharing to our South Holland community also for awareness.

⚠️ FRAUD SCAM WARNING

Yesterday (12 August) we received two reports of Boston residents being called by someone purporting to be from Boston Police saying that their bank account has been compromised and their money was being taken. The fraudster then told them that in order to prove who they were, the line would go dead and after three beeps they should then dial 999, that they would come straight back through to the person calling.

Fortunately, neither resident fell for this, suspecting this was indeed a scam.

Often fraudsters will find ways of making victims think they have disconnected the call but in reality they are still on the line with the fraudster. We're making you aware so that unsuspecting people don’t play into their trap.

👉🏽 What to do:

- Hang up.
- Wait for a few minutes.
- Then call the police on 101, or your bank - preferably from a different phone and not on any number they give you. They will be able to tell you if they are trying to reach you.

❗ Do not give any details, personal or financial over the phone and never withdraw money because you have been told to, no bank or police officer would call you to ask you to do this.

Jail for Coningsby pub knife incident.

A man who produced a large, machete-type knife, from the back of his trousers in the middle of a Coningsby pub was sentenced to 13 months in prison following a conviction at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday (9 August). He was also ordered to pay £187 costs and was handed an order preventing him from entering the Black Swan public house for two years.

Steven Stone, 34, of Milson Close, Coningsby, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place, possession of a controlled drug of Class A (co***ne) and possession of a controlled drug of Class B (cannabis).

Officers were called to the Black Swan pub on the High Street at Coningsby, just after 11pm on Saturday 6 July. Stone had been talking to a number of people in the pub that evening. He left the premises then returned again a short while later. During a discussion with a woman, he pulled a large knife from the back of his trousers. He held it behind his back when confronted by another member of the public, then started to wield the knife around in the air. The knife was safely removed from Stone by two patrons of the pub. After a further altercation between Stone and another man, Stone fled the pub. He was soon located by officers on Park Lane, Coningsby, where he was arrested for possession of a bladed article in a public place, and possessions of controlled Class A and B drugs, which were located on him as he was searched. He was remanded into custody until his sentencing.

Thankfully no significant injuries were sustained during the incident.

"This was an isolated incident in a local village pub that could have ended very differently”, said Sgt Robert Sim, who was in charge of the case. “Not only did Steven Stone think it was acceptable to carry and conceal a large machete on his person in a public place, he then thought without any hesitation to pull the knife out in a busy pub, and raise it up in the air whilst then arguing with other customers who were happily enjoying their evening. His actions led to larger disorder within the pub which caused members of the public to fear for their safety.

“I would like to again reiterate that this was an isolated incident and reassure members of the public that Lincolnshire police will deal with offences of this nature as robustly as possible.

“I would also like to thank all of the members of the public on the night for assisting officers and to also thank all the officers that have worked on this case, achieving a swift and positive outcome with Stone receiving a custodial sentence.”

The Local Policing Team were out in Weston Hills on Friday the 19th of July supporting Community Speed Watch (CSW).

The CSW up and down the county do a fantastic job in reducing the speed on the counties' roads supporting the focus tackling the Fatal 5.

Insp Matt Dickinson said "I have nothing but admiration for those on the community speed watches in South Holland who give up their time to keep our roads safe. My team will continue to work with these schemes in tackling one of the core areas of the Fatal 5, that being speeding. I would encourage any parish/locality who do not have their own dedicated community speed watch to enquire about setting one up as they make a real difference to the communities in which they operate."

We're sharing a simple message to help you steer clear of opportunistic crime: Lock it. Zip it. Keep it.

Opportunistic thieves and burglars are waiting for you to forget to zip up a handbag, leave the front door unlocked if you're out in the garden, or become distracted at the cashpoint.

Tackling opportunistic crime is a force-wide effort. Operation Magpie includes tips from our dedicated Crime Prevention Team to help you keep hold of what's yours, and you will see officers patrolling their communities at peak times as a deterrent to thieves who may try to take advantage of busy shopping centres, beach fronts, visitor attractions, and bars and restaurants.

Community engagements are very Important part of Neighbourhood policing.
Today we visited our regulars, that’s “Hub in Hub out " in Green Lane Spalding (next to St Norbert's Church).
"Hub in Hub out" is a part of" Project St. Thomas" and is delivered by community volunteers using facilities and venues provided by partners with a social mission.
Every Sunday from 12pm-2pm they are serving hot soup and other small meals and hot/cold drinks to those who need it.
It is not a typical soup kitchen; it is a place where members of the community can come to socialize with others and escape loneliness in a nonjudgmental friendly environment.
Our role as Neighbourhood police is to engage with members of the public, to give advice on matters related to police and to build trust and positive relations.
If you would like to find out more about the Project St. Thomas or if you would like to volunteer, you can find information's on their page: Hub in Hub out or .co.uk/hub-in-hub-out.

Would you like us to visit your community group? send us an email: [email protected]

Officers have charged Joshua Lawrence-West, 22, of no fixed address, with three burglaries of homes in Holbeach which took place at Mill Bank, on 1 July, Branches Lane, on 25 June, and Church Street on 4 June – also the date and location of the theft of the motor vehicle taken following this burglary.

Daniel Smith, 26, of Pheasant Street, Holbeach, was charged with one burglary of the home on Branches Lane, Holbeach, which was reported to have taken place on 25 June.

The arrests and subsequent charges follow targeted and meticulous work from our Intelligence Department, Force Pro-Active Team and CID, making use of CCTV and conducting house-to-house enquiries.

Both appeared at Lincoln Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 4 July.

Last year we launched our campaign, Beating Burglary Together, in which we pledged to tell you more about where burglaries are occurring and what we are doing to tackle the problem.
