Hi everyone! As some of you know, I’ve recently started as the Community Events Organiser at Willow Wood Hospice, and I’m thrilled to be kicking off with my first event: ‘Willow Wood Does Strictly.’

We’re aiming to raise £10,000 from this event, which is a crucial part of our efforts to meet our annual fundraising target of £3.3 million. Hospice care is incredibly costly, with most of our funding coming from donations and community events like this. Every penny raised goes directly to providing compassionate care, comfort, and support to our patients and their families during some of their most challenging times.

Events like these aren’t just about raising money—they’re about ensuring we can continue to offer essential services, from pain management and emotional support to specialized therapies that make a real difference in people’s lives. Willow Wood does Strictly Sponsor one of our amateur dance couples as they compete for the coveted glitterball trophy on 11th October, to raise vital funds for patient care at Willow Wood Hospice.

Just a reminder that pou classes are postponed. Hippie Spinners MCR offer private bookings and will resume regular classes after the summer holidays. ❤️

Leanne has kindly volunteered some extra time this afternoon to start organising all the school uniforms that have been kindly donated.

We have loads of generic skirts, pants, joggers, shirts, pinafores and dresses between ages 4 up to 11

There is a lot of st Raphael's uniform in smaller sizes 4-6

There are a lot of jumpers for St Arlies primary sizes 7-8

We have some Copley uniform jumpers, and PE kits

We are still due in more items and need to go out and get more coat hangers so bear with us we will keep you all updated on collection dates starting next week.

If anyone would like to volunteer at the hub we have loads of small jobs that need doing and all our actions work towards improving the community, let us know if you're interested in helping out we would be grateful ❤️

Today was create a tree day Summer Holiday Camp held

Today we created our own trees, with lots of fun party games in-between.

Tomorrow morning we have all our carnival equipment prepped. Join us for hook a duck, tin cans alley, bean goss , shooting range and bucket bounce!

Our normal timetable is resuming around kids club..tomorrow with pilates @ 09:15 followed by over 60s yoga

Kids HAF club spots are available at £17 for 10-2 lunch included ❤️

All prepped for tomorrow HAF club activity! In the morning it will be breakfast, then a fun poi session. Followed by a create your own tree art project, some dinner, ending the day with some carnival games and prizes!

Here at Academy HQ we regular identify and apply for relevant funding to improve our local community.

One of our current focuses has been on the creation of a community kitchen here at the hub. An essential element when applying for funding is to reach out to local residents and ascertain what the needs of the community are.

Academy HQ is the only community hub in Stalybridge, What would the addition of a community kitchen here mean to you? What sort of activity would you like to see the kitchen used for? Any and all ideas are welcome!

This will be a fantastic opportunity creating both paid and voluntary roles. fun interactive workshops, nutritional education, low-cost food items - even free where we can!, social interaction opportunities that are inclusive, and much much more.

Another great day of fun filled activities with lots of children enjoying the Summer Holiday camp
making personalised sun catchers as well as plenty of other enjoyment to be had

We've done a little bit of egg maintenance today. Here we have 6 duck eggs in incubation. They are numbered and the HAF club children have all places their bets on which number will hatch first, with a little prize for the winners there! Would anyone like to take a guess on our first hatcher just for fun ☺️

The fabulous returns to Saturday 17th August 2pm till 5pm with the theme being ' Starry Stalybridge '
These amazing painting classes will leave you not disappointed, with most events fully booked, means booking is essential !!
All equipment is provided for the classes, with all abilities welcome..

Looking for a children's party venue. Our large gym is the perfect space for parties! With soft flooring offering a safe environment for play. There's room for bouncy castles or any other extras you require. We can also use our connections with local activity providers to arrange bespoke packages, entertainment and decoration.

Our parties get overwhelmingly positive feedback and we are regularly recommended :)

Yet another fun filled day at summer kids camp! A big thank you to Green Creations who have been in today supporting the children with their decoupage creations.

We had a fantastic morning starting with the duck incubation workshop. The children were shown how the incubator was set up and how to care for them. They had plenty of questions and Amee-Jayne has been answering them all.

We brought over one teenage duck and two chickens for them to see today.

The last week of HAF camp we will be holding a full petting zoo including our newly hatched ducklings. There are limited spaces available but you can still book via the eequ site :)

In continuation of our theme this week to highlight the importance of raising awareness of local opportunities. Enabling participation in sessions and support to improve all aspects of health....

Academy HQ is dedicated to the health and well-being of our local community, supporting countless residents across Tameside daily through a variety of sessions including physical activities, peer support, holistic therapies, and hobby and social groups, catering to all ages and abilities. We recognise that health encompasses various dimensions beyond the physical and mental, understanding that different approaches work for different individuals and that people prioritise different aspects of well-being.

At Academy HQ, we value all dimensions of well-being and are strong advocates for improving social well-being and addressing the social determinants of health that many face. To better meet the needs of local residents, we actively seek input from local organisations, charities, and community members. We welcome your ideas on what might be needed or missing and whether it is something we can facilitate. We believe in the power of collaboration and community input to drive meaningful and effective support.

The kids poi class is cancelled until further notice due to underbooking over the summer holidays. Hippie Spinners MCR can be contacted for private sessions.

If this is a class you were interested get in touch and they will bring these classes will be back when schools back in :)

Has anyone got any uniform to donate? We will be getting everything we have out tomorrow and will announce allocated collection times throughout the summer holidays for people to come and get what they need.

A fantastic start to the Summer Holiday camp today where the children had a great time enjoying lots of activities with one being ' painting prints with fruit and vegetables '

HAF camp summer club day 1: Today we started with some breakfast and multi-sports play. Then got a variety of fruit and veg and let the children get creative with prints. Followed by an afternoon movie! Everyone's had a fantastic day we are looking forward to the rest of summer camp fun!

Dinner time was spaghetti and meatballs, sandwiches, veg sticks, fruit and crisps. Any left over hot meals will be portioned out to be donated to Councillor Steven Barton for Barty's food bank throughout the holidays. We have three portions of meatballs being donated for collection tomorrow.

We have very limited spaces left but check out what is still available through the eequ website.

Today we met Jan from Valley Music Wellbeing who will be providing a fun and engaging creative activity at this summer kids camp (22/08). We encourage people to go check out her page as she offers such a fantastic range of fun, engaging activities for all ages and abilities. We are really looking forward to working together on future projects that benefit the community :)
