We were deeply saddened to hear the news of John Byrne's passing last week.

John Byrne was conferred with the honorary degree Doctor of the University in 2015 in recognition of his distinction in the arts.

Angel- Blue and Gold, 2016 is available to view in gallery one.

Wood Wedge, 1982
Screenprint
Willie Rodger

Last year, we were happy to be gifted a series of prints from the Willie Rodger Art Trust. This work, along with many other lesser seen Willie Rodger work is now on display in Pathfoot Galleries 3 and 4.

Image description:
Screenprint of two wedges of wood sitting next to each other. The grain of the wood in each edge is highly visible, showing the difference between the tree rings at the centre of the trunk and the outer grain of the wood.

Artwork has white background and is framed in a light wood frame. It is hung on a grey wall.

This lovely early winter light streaming into the Pathfoot Building and our Inspired! exhibition.

Left: Barry Herbert, Untitled, Screenprint, 1969
Right: Robin Philipson, Martyr, oil on canvas, 1966

image description:

A white wall with two images. The one on the left is a screenprint with blocks of colour placed over each other. A cream background forms the base layer, with pinkish red blocks appearing at the bottom and middle of the piece. Yellow dots and waves appear over the cream and pinkish red, creating a layer of orange streaks over the pink. Blocks of blue form the uppermost layer, looking darker in places where multiple colours have been applied. The one on the right is bigger and is a highly textured oil on canvas with shades of red, orange, blue, purple, grey and black arranged in a blockish formation. Colours are washed and layered over each other, with red dominating the palette. There is a diagonal flash of sunlight over the works.

'The great schools shall be replenished with those that be apt to learning'

Many congratulations to our graduating students this week, we wish you every success.
The image is of our ceremonial mace, which is has been used for graduation ceremonies since the beginning of the University.

More recently, we have started a period of conservation of the ceremonial collections at the University. The mace has recently been restored by Hamilton and Inches and is back to its former glory!

We're delighted to be exhibiting work by Christine Borland as part of our Inspired! exhibitions. The work shown here, Oval Interior (CNC model, 2009) and Interior Dialogue (Bronze, 2023) are now part of our permanent collection and respond to Borland's long-held emotional engagement with Barbara Hepworth.

On display in Gallery 1, Pathfoot Building, open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm or read about it in our blog:

We're grateful to have received support from National Fund for Acquisitions to support this purchase.

It's one of our favourite times of the year in the Collection, when the apples are out and someone places an apple in our beloved Eve's hand.

We love how the sculpture and gardens complement each other on campus.
