Jack is a volunteer driver with Stockport Car Scheme
Jack says “When I retired I had lots of spare time and was at a loose end. I looked for something to do and found Stockport Car Scheme as I enjoy driving and helping people. I have been driving for two years starting with one day a week but now I do two days each week as I really enjoy it. I get to know the clients and take them to local appointments like social groups, clinics and visits. I have found that volunteering gives me structure to my week and I look forward to helping people. The Scheme has social events and its great to call into the office and catch up with staff and other volunteers. They offer support and ask how I am doing making sure I am happy with the drives I am given which makes me feel that I am a valued member of the team
I get my expenses paid which cover my fuel costs and wear and tear on my car.

Alice is 92 years old. She has no family support and only gets out once a week to visit the hairdressers. This is the only time she gets to speak to someone and is able to get out of the house.
John is a Stockport Car Scheme volunteer driver who uses his own car to take Alice to her appointment. He takes her every week that he is available. Alice would not be able to get out any other way as her mobility is very poor and she needs the reassurance that someone will help her and give her the support she needs.
Could you spare a few hours each week either on an ad hoc basis or a regular day to help someone like Alice.

‼️ Nominations for Stockport Rocks! Volunteer Awards are now open!!
It's been over ten years since the last borough wide Volunteer Awards. Many of you have highlighted the need to celebrate and reward volunteers, not only because it's a nice thing to do but also to support and protect the workforce that is the lifeblood of our sector.
And so with the help of Stockport County Community Trust , Marketing Stockport , Stockport Council and an array of amazing sponsors, we aim to deliver a celebration worthy of those who dedicate their time to helping others.
We worked with members of the Volunteer Managers Network to come up with ten categories to represent the many different forms of volunteering.
Nominations are open 1 - 28 March and you can make as many entries as you like - one nomination / team per entry.
We're looking forward to celebrating the inspiring individuals who give so much to our sector and their neighbourhoods!
