Please don't worry about our wild garden! We are taking part in

A healthy lawn with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution and can even lock away carbon below ground. With over 20 million gardens in the UK, even the smallest grassy patches add up to a significant proportion of our land which, if managed properly, can deliver enormous gains for nature, communities and the climate.

As Spring has arrived, the Dark Nights Craft Club concluded last night.

Well done to Pam and Anna who set this up last October and created a space every Thursday night for these ladies to come together.

Pam and Anna wish to send their thanks to the crafters who came along. And are delighted to see there have been new friendships forged as a result of this group.

For all our Dark Nights crafters, do pop into church this Saturday morning and enjoy a bit more creative time!

It's the little things...

Here at St Matthew's Church House, we want to make sure that all the groups that meet here really enjoy their visit.

Having a light at the front door helps our evening visitors, such as the Dark Nights Craft Club, feel safe and welcomed.

Let there be light!

We are really sorry but due to illness, we are cancelling the Dark Nights Craft Club tomorrow evening, Thursday 25 January.

Sorry for any disappointment, we hope to be fit and healthy again for next week!

Look after yourselves and God bless x

16/01/2024

Thank you to the children (and the childminders!) for our new little friend in our garden. We love him! ❤️

14/01/2024

We are looking forward to welcoming back the Dark Nights Craft Club this Thursday (18th January 2024) from 7pm until 9pm.

The group leaders wanted to enable more people to come along so have reduced the fee from £5 to £3 per session. We fully support this decision and are prepared to make up the difference for our utility bills if needed.

Everyone is welcome, it is adults only. We look forward to seeing the groups lovely creations. There's no need to book just turn up and pay in cash on the day.

The Dark Nights Club will run every Thursday from this week up to and including the 21st March 2024.

We have all heard that the bees and other pollinating insects are struggling, and some species are becoming extinct even here in the UK. There are a mix of reasons, including habitat loss, climate change, pesticides and diseases.

At St. Matthew's Church we are trying to do our bit by joining in with "No Mow May"; a campaign run by the charity Plantlife. The front garden at Church House is more moss than lawn actually, but we left the lawnmower in the shed and loads of beautiful wildflowers have appeared. So the bees and other insects are able to gather their nectar and have a much better chance of surviving. Now we are well into June we will just be mowing areas selectively to suit the different types of flowers and grasses, and making sure there are always some flowers around for the bees.

We are keeping the back lawn a bit shorter so the children in our groups can play outside. But we are letting the edges grow taller, and have planted lots of bee-friendly plants along the borders.

What a lovely start to the week! A surprise hot chocolate station, courtesy of our friends at Friendly Fridays!

Thank you Anna and Pam, for all your hard work leading Friendly Fridays. It's very good of you to share this gift with us. We will certainly enjoy it!

Absolutely delighted to be the chosen venue for this lovely course!

If you would like a place, just book through the link shown.

Who's free on Fridays, lives in Stockport and fancies learning how to embroider drawings?

I asked recently about interest if I ran beginners workshops teaching you how to embroider Christmas Tree decorations and there was a lot of positive feedback!

So now I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and going for it (before Christmas has been and gone!)

Classes will run over 2 sessions. The first to get you started and the second to show you how to finish off your first hoop and get you started on your second! If you're super fast you might finish the second in class too but if not, you will be armed with knowledge of how to do it and will have access to all my online video tutorials to remind you if not.

Plan is for the 2 sessions to be as follows-

Session 1 - Friday 3rd December 10am - 12noon
Session 2 - Friday 10th December 10am - 12noon

I'm planning on offering 5 spaces so including me, there will be just 6 of us there.

The price of £50 includes one of my Christmas DIY Embroidery Kits (worth £22) plus 4 hours group tuition and free tea/coffee and mince pies/chocolate biscuits.

The venue will be St Matthews Church House in Edgeley SK3 9EE which is very easy to get to, free parking and easily accessible kitchen and toilet facilities too.

Please message me ASAP if you would like to join us (or have a friend who would?)

If that date and time doesn't work for you, please message or comment below and I will look if possible to do other dates and times too. 🎄💕

What a lovely idea!

This week is Self Care Week. At Socially Yours today we were able to give some self care packages to our St Matthew's Church House group. This was thanks to a grant we received from Sector 3 - Stockport and the bags went down really well.

We also wrote a list of the things we are grateful of in our lives. It's easy to dwell on the negatives but trickier to spot the positives in our lives and appreciate them for what they are.

One Stockport Local Fund drop-in, Edgeley 24/10/2021

We are delighted to be hosting a drop-in session for the One Stockport Local Fund on Monday 1 November 11am - 1pm.

Please see the link for full details.

A couple of years ago, we were delighted to receive a grant from this fund which enabled us to develop and promote St Matthew's Church House as a vibrant commuity hub and we are very grateful for this opportunity.

We made a fantastic start, with a good number of groups and services taking full advantage of our space to not only run their own sessions but form new networks and new opportunities to work creatively, thanks to the work of Pam Robinson, Community Development Manager

Whilst lockdown mostly closed our doors (we could remain open for those groups who were exempt), we are now starting up again and have already held friendship groups like Socially Yours, had a five week empowerment course with Westfield Coaching, which was commissioned by Friendly Fridays and also hosted the Neighbourhood Charity Crafters, to name but a few. And next month, we are also looking forward to hosting the Stockport Women's Networking Group, thanks to the wonderful work being carried out by Katherine Rosati

We are always happy to show people around the House so do get in touch!

Two years ago, can you believe it!!?

Just two years ago, we welcomed so many people to the St Matthew’s Church House Open Day. We had spent months converting the house from a vicarage to a community space and couldn’t wait to show everyone the result.

Dozens of people from local groups, organisations, churches, schools, charities, as well as local residents, popped in to have a look and were delighted with what they saw.

We soon started taking bookings for the four rooms we have on offer...and then we went into lockdown. Apart from those support groups which were deemed exempt, such as education, we basically had to close our doors.

But there is a real sense of moving forward now! We are once again open for bookings, with some safety features still in place such as wearing masks on entry and in public areas (you can remove once seated), and hand sanitising.

So if you are looking for a space for workshops, interviews, team meeting, or just to take time out for thinking and planning, do get in touch and we will arrange for you to look around!

We are also thinking about opening the house as a co-working space for people who work at home, freelancers, business owners, etc. Is this something you would be interested in? Do let us know!
