Lisbon Tree

A new experimental end-grain design inspired by my recent trip to Lisbon. Using the distinctive Douglas Fir Tree rings to mesmerise!
Trying to capture the atmosphere of the sun and the beautiful worn tiles.
What a wonderful city. More Lisbon designs to follow.

Risking the elements at York River Art Market
I try to avoid outdoor markets these days.Too many days ruined by the elements. I am pleased to be at this event in York, though. Having said that, I've had one large frame smashed in the breeze so far as a reminder of why it stresses me out so much.
Hopefully, I won't get too bored.or have another existential crisis but I wouldn't bet against it!

Lisbon inspired design

This experimental design is a copy of the incredible Japanese Edo Period Japanese artist Kano Sansetsu. Dated 1631; "Frolicking Birds in Plum and Willow Trees"
I have substituted the frolicking birds for a flying egret, an image courtesy of
A former running buddy. Former as I no longer run!
I used a gorgeous slice of Aspen end grain and framed it myself. The colours are made using resin that I added pigments to.
It is 70 x 30 cm unframed.

Handcrafted using a stunningly beautiful large walnut end grain veneer and inlaid with oak end grain veneer.
Embellished and filled with gold and finished with wax oil.

Day 2 in the Fabulous Victoria Hall, Saltaire. Yesterday was fantastic.
