Who else is celebrating World Animal Day today?

Despite having cat ears, rabbit ears, bear ears and a tiger mask in our dressing up supplies (which I only discovered on Wednesday afternoon) they weren't good enough for out littlest daughter.

But sifting through the Halloween outfits (all hand me downs from Big Sister) I discovered a Spider dress.

Which got a nod of approval Wednesday evening before bed.

But we 'had to' make a Web to go with the dress too, to make it more 'spidery' otherwise 'it is just a dress with a spider on'

Cue me and my husband cutting this out of a net curtain at 9.15pm last night 🙄

But it got the seal of approval and one happy 🕷 plus 🕸 went off to school this morning.

Good job I'm going out with the mums tonight! I think I still need to unwind!

More opinions needed...

This little guy is proving popular at my Kids Sewing Club classes at the moment! 🎃

Stitched by hand last week whilst watching TV one evening (Celebrity Race Across the World final on Catch Up)

I am under strict instructions from my eldest daughter that we have to make them at Sewing Club this year in time for Halloween- 2 Saturdays to go then!

So I'm thinking of doing a one- off Parent & Child class in the Half Term Holiday on Friday 25th October, but if you can't make it, would you consider buying a kit with video instructions to try at home with your children?

1. Yes
2. No
3. Maybe

Any feedback much appreciated!

QUESTION FOR YOU...

Last year I only did Christmas Sewing Classes for children and it 'usually' took most children about 1 hour long to stitch a cute felt decoration like those in the photo.

The quickest to stitch were the heart and the star, so I always started new learners off with them.

This year, I'm planning on running a series of 2 hour classes for Ladies aged 18+ to stitch them too.

So my question is...

How many do you think you (if you are a lady aged 18+) would get done in 2 hours?

Please could you comment with 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Thank you!

This morning's conversation with Pippa's Alexa (Music to wake her up with)-

Me - "Alexa, play Rise of Red from Descendants 4 on Amazon Music"

Alexa - " I can't find songs by Right Said Fred on Amazon Music"

Probably for the best! 🤣

Sunday night bedtime reading.

I treated myself to this when I spotted it in the gift shop at RHS Bridgewater a couple of months ago and never fails to make me chuckle.

Put it on your Christmas wishlist if you like a good giggle about life as a Grown Up 👍

So apparently today (26th September) is the day the most people have a Birthday on!

Which reminded me to remind you that I am no longer going to be embroidering baby blankets once my current supply is gone.

I have 3 pink ones left if anyone is looking for a cosy gift for an Autumn baby.

I can embroider with full details or just a name and rainbow if you prefer.

£23.95 including P&P

Update on the Christmas Pudding...

She's complete!!! 🥰

Nicely stuffed and ready to hang on our Christmas Tree on December 1st. 🎄

If you fancy joining me in November (I might even squeeze in a date in October for the super organised) to sew your own tree decorations, I'm nearly ready to send an email to all those subscribed to my mailing list for Grown-Ups.

Join here if you'd like to be first to know when bookings are open-

When you say week in, week out at your Sewing Club classes that you need a little bin for all the thread ends . . .

And then IKEA bring out this tiny desk bin (only about 20cm tall!) complete with super cute miniature dustpan and brush!

Personalised with my stickers from The Funky Ribbon Company just in case I leave it somewhere 💚

Manifesting at it's best 🤣

22/09/2024

Ladies of Stockport- anyone up for joining me to learn how to sew cute Christmas decorations in the run up to Christmas?

With mince pies, tea and the option to BYO drinks?

I'm finally putting plans together for some classes for Grown Ups!

Just make sure you join my mailing list for when the classes are available for booking on my website.

This term's Galaxy themed projects are going well! 🌙🌟

This one by Sienna, aged 10.

Only her second ever session at my Saturday Sewing Club at Moorish and she's a Pro already! 😃

If your child would like to pop along to try just a single session, this is what they can usually create in just 1 class.

Then they can decide from there if they'd like to come again.

The 11.15am - 12.15pm Session has just 1 space left next Saturday, but the 10.00am - 11.00am session has 3 still remaining.

1 hour Single Class is £10.50

For children aged 7+

Please could I pick your brains?

1. Did you know I do gift vouchers?

2. Did you know that I teach regular Saturday Sewing Club classes for children aged 7+?

So I just had a brainwave about combining the 2 to create Birthday/ Christmas gifts for children aged 7+

I could put together a mini Sewing Club Kit for you to gift with a voucher. The voucher would be for any amount you choose, but if you live in Stockport, I'd suggest at least enough to cover the cost of attending one of my Saturday Sewing Club classes which is currently £10.50, so they can put the Sewing kit to use with a bit of hands on help.

Depending how much you normally spend on gifts for child in your family and friends, I'm sure I could put a little package together to suit.

If they didn't fancy a class, are busy on Saturday mornings, or don't live in Stockport, the voucher could be used against any of my Sewing Club Kits and online video tutorials.

What do you think?

All feedback welcome!

"Every day is a school day"

A phrase my lovely colleague Neil used to say a lot when I was still an Architect in my past life.

Yesterday was my first day at college since I left University in 2006 and today I attended this Build A Business in GM Libraries workshop at Altrincham Library.

I think it's going to be a game changer for me.

I did a speaking/embroidery event for our local WI back in February, but since then nothing and to be honest I questioned my 'qualification' to do public speaking and wondered what on earth I said at the event as I definitely didnt keep to the 'script' I wrote for it.

But after today, I have lots of ideas of how I can make another public speaking event/ sewing workshop much more inclusive and exciting.

Seriously, if you have a business or are hoping to start one in Greater Manchester, you need to attend the workshops at Greater Manchester Libraries.

Starting something new today at College!

First time being a Student in 18 years.

And taking the bus to get there.

Pretty sure my phone didn't have a selfie camera back in 2006, so this one's for the record. 43 years old and back to college (just one day a week) and loving it so far.

17/09/2024

Quick trip to my local library after school drop off to pick up a reservation and spotted this poster for new Build a Business workshops coming up at Stockport Central Library next month.

Honestly cannot recommend them enough.

When I needed a change in direction and started teaching Embroidery workshops, it gave me the perfect knowledge I needed to get started.

If you're thinking of starting a business or already have one but know it needs to change to survive/ give you back your passion, sign up if you can.

Do you have a child aged 7+ who would enjoy a spot of creative sewing on a Saturday morning?

Taster Sessions for my Saturday Sewing Club are available this weekend if they fancy just trying a standalone session.

£10.50 for a 1 hour class, or £40 for the next 4 Saturdays.

Classes run at-

10.00am - 11.00am (4 spaces available)

11.15am - 12.15pm (2 spaces available)

Moorish is located very close to Sainsburys Hazel Grove and does fabulous teas, coffee, cakes, breakfasts and children's lunches. 😋

We had such a good Sunday today, slow cooked pulled pork (so could go out for a few hours) baking mince pies (so I could use up a jar of mincemeat leftover from last Christmas) and cheese n biscuits for supper whilst playing Monopoly Deal (my new favourite family card game).

So good in fact, I barely got my phone out all day, so have no photos to show you of any of it!

So instead, I'm going to show you my first 🎄 photo of 2024...

An order from last Christmas.

A favourite family recipe, traced and stitched onto canvas, then framed so it can sit proudly on display.

Perhaps a bit more 'presentable' than framing the original, which as you can see, looks very used and loved 😍

A busy first day back at my Saturday Sewing Club at Moorish yesterday!

We had members finishing off their Bees from before the Summer Holidays, members starting this term's Galaxy themed projects and a new starter embroidering her own personalised rainbow coaster. 🌈

It's looking to be a bit quieter next Saturday due to a School PGL trip, School Open Days and a Cross Country event, so if you've ever thought your child might like to give Sewing Club a try, next Saturday is the perfect time to book a Single Session.

It's £10.50 for a 1 hour Taster Session where I have a project most children complete in the hour, but if not, are welcome to take everything they need home with them to finish.

Choose from-

10.00am - 11.00am (4 spaces available)
11.15am - 12.15pm (2 spaces available)

When you can't quite find the right shade of 'Sew Unique' green for your branded workwear...

Choosing one named after yourself instead seemed quite fitting!

Introducing 'Kelly Green'! 💚

12/09/2024

Another happy member of my Saturday Sewing Club is now an official 'Green' Blue Peter badge holder! 🥰💚

Well done Isabelle! 👏

Isabelles loves her sewing classes with Kelly,Kelly got them all using recycled materials to make their projects and sent off for their green blue peter badges.Isabelles badge just turned up in the post and she is on cloud 9!
Thankyou Sew Unique Artwork !

Classes start back up at Moorish this Saturday 😊

BLUE PETER BADGES NEWSFLASH!!!

Agatha is the youngest ever member of my Sewing Clubs and did so well last term keeping up with all the older children.

So I was so pleased when her mum sent me this photo of her with her Green Blue Peter badge, received in the post today!!!

One of our final Sewing Club projects last term was making accessories out of old school uniform (gingham dresses are the best!) and so I sent a bundle of applications for all the girls that completed at least one brooch or hair clip to receive a Green Blue Peter badge.

We learned lots about where we can source fabric for sewing projects from, rather than buying new. And the Blue Peter application for their Green badge supported them with understanding why we are doing it.

School uniform is absolutely perfect for sewing as often it's not accepted for Charity Shop/Bags2School donations etc and quite often it's had a lot of wear so it's not always suitable for re-use and hand-me-downs either.

I am honestly so, so proud and grateful for my Sewing Club members for always sticking with my ideas for new projects.

Whatever will we come up with next???

If your child aged 7+ would like to join my Saturday Sewing Club at Moorish this half term, there are still spaces left for the 9.45am - 10.45am session. Block bookings (to work on the bigger prohect) start this weekend, but there are still places available for single sessions too, if you can't make all the dates.

I love this post I saw thanks to Daisy First Aid Stockport & Surrounding Areas last year.

Quite often our walk home from school with my youngest (now 9) is definitely harder than the walk to school. Being on your best behaviour all day is hard work.

After school restraint collapse

Do you have a little one who has started or returned to school? Have you heard of ‘after school restraint collapse’? If not then read on…

You may wonder why your child’s teacher talks about how lovely they are during the school day but once they are with you it’s another story...

They may have meltdowns with temper tantrums or they may be withdrawn and refuse to engage with you for a while after school. This is actually really common behaviour in children under 12.

Parenting expert Sarah Ockwell-Smith says “They have spent all day at school holding in frustration, fear, anxiety, anger and other uncomfortable emotions, because they know that it is “naughty” to let them out at school. When they get home to you, however, things are entirely different.”

Experts say this shows that your children feel safe enough with you and loved enough to let out all of their bottled up emotions. So really it’s a sign of your great parenting!

How can we deal with it?

Try not to ask lots of questions as soon as they come out of school.

Give them a snack – they’re likely to be tired and hungry so a bit of quiet time and some food is a good idea.

Once they’ve had a snack, exercise can really help them to blow off steam if they need to.

If they are upset or having a meltdown try to keep calm, acknowledge their feelings and let them know you are there for them.

And remember, it’s totally normal and you are not alone.

One love letter now embroidered onto natural canvas and sent off to Pearl and Harry's grand daughter to frame and keep forever.

The longest piece of handwriting I've ever traced and stitched out, but so worth it.

Beautiful handwriting and thoughtful letters like this should definitely be treasured and kept as a reminder to us all to slow down a bit, reflect that life has it's ups and downs, but we're all in it together. 💕

09/09/2024

Now that it feels like Autumn is setting in and we're going to be indoors more, it's the perfect time to learn new hobbies such as embroidery and sewing to keep children entertained at the weekends.

My Saturday Sewing Club starts again this Saturday at Moorish Coffee Shop, near Sainsburys Hazel Grove and places are available for new starters.

Single 1 hour sessions are £10.50 if your child would like to come when suits, or the full 5 weeks is available to book for £50.

For further details and to book please visit my website here-

This term we're going to be learning how to stitch our own handprints using a variety of embroidery stitches, before moving on to more 'seasonal' makes! 🎃🌟🎄
