Autumn is here! There's a chill in the air and the nights are drawing in. Very soon the leaves will start to fall and many plants need cutting back. Borders will benefit from mulching and grass needs feeding. It's been a hot and dry year and most gardens have suffered in one way or another. Now is a time to tidy and prepare for next year. Let's talk about mulch!

A mulch is a covering of organic material applied most commonly in the autumn. Leaves are nature's mulch and we replicate this using various different mediums.

• leaf mould
• grass clippings
• well rotted manure
•horticultural grit
•decorative stone
Mulches add organic material to the soil, replacing nutrients and improving moisture retention. They can also control w**ds and leave a tidy visual Finnish to a border.

Moisture retention has never been so important with climate change! A mulch alone won't solve drought tolerance but it will go a long way to helping your soil retain moisture.

A little bit about me!

My name is Adam, 34 years young! I’m the face of Heath Maintenance and it’s just little old me.

I have loved gardening since a little boy. Helping my Nan in her lovely garden 🪴

I have an NVQ L2 in amenity Horticulture

I also hold a pesticide licence and spray certificate Pa1 and Pa6. Which allows me to apply professional w**d killer, selective lawn w**d treatments and fertilisers.

I use professional petrol/2-stroke equipment

My aim is to carry out my work to a very high standard, work tidily and give value for money

The next door neighbour had a new fence installed. However they didn’t leave a tidy job on my customers boundary!
Now looking as good as new.

Our gardens are waking up! Have you got space to add some veg to your home beds? Today was time to plant out a new strawberry bed. 🍓 the Rhubarb is looking champion, radish ready to pick and rainbow chard looks pretty as a plant, let alone delicious braised with some butter.

For all my regular customers. As soon as they are grown on sufficiently will receive a free sunflower plant. The sunflower is the national symbol of let’s get some in our gardens. Any donation towards the sunflowers will go directly to the disaster support fund.

These conifers had been blocking the light and view of both of these properties. Conifers are fast growing and establish quickly. If left to there own devices they can soon get out of hand. Regular maintenance is a must once the desired height is reached. Now removed to soil level the difference speaks for itself!

Growing your own fruit and veg is very rewarding. It’s also not as hard as you might think! Whether you have a small patio or acres of land. Your home grown produce can be grown in pots, a dedicated bed or mixed within existing planting.
Help is at hand. Whether starting big or small I can set you on towards a path of self sufficiency.

The brief was to create a space for growing vegetables and to add planting in one half of the garden. The other half is for the children to make use of. We agreed with the customer to renovate the garden in affordable stages to spread the cost. Depending on the design a full garden makeover can cost thousands. For those on a budget we can discuss what your priorities are and carry out the work in manageable stages.

Starting from scratch we cleared the bed to find the top course of bricks were loose. These were re-bedded and plenty of organic matter dug into the bed. A planting scheme was agreed that focussed on attracting pollinators. A mixture of Perennials and annuals were planted and within the same year gave a fantastic display.
