It’s certainly not shattering any records but being as though I couldn’t walk at all other than 2 or 3 steps on a frame when I came out of hospital, it’s progress.
Each day is the same routine but yesterday was the furthest so far.
It took 90 minutes waddling on a stick with Jen and Angus in tow 😂.
It’s fresh air and a change from 4 walls.

I’m still hoping for some sort of return to work in August. Not too sure the docs and Jen are convinced though 😂.

Job completed in Trentham, 2x bow top side gates.
First one just with a rear latch and bolt as requested and the 2nd standard fit with a keyed throw bolt.
Slow progress as I’ve been down with a chest and throat infection for 4 weeks which doesn’t want to go. Bring on spring

Job finished in Hanford, we’ve been ducking and diving the rain all week but got a few hours grace to finish off today.
Customer wanted outward opening T&G gate, nice and wide with a keyed lock and panels either side.
4ft 6” wide gate on 600mm hooks and bands for strength on 5x5 posts.
They removed hedges for us so we could make the drive secure with a small feather edge post and rail fence.
Looks good to me 😊

A couple of jobs completed around the showers.
A 4ft rear gate fitted in Newcastle for a local landlord folly a tall set of bow top T&G gates on 6” posts in Trentham complete with long throw double keyed lock

Nice job finished in Trentham. It’s a double sided t&g gate and panel to give a nice finish to a new patio seating area, complete with double keyed lock. I like suggesting these double sided gates occasionally when the job suits them.
Only issue is lifting the thing as there is nothing to grip onto and its g***d dropping heavy 😂

Cheadle today in the sunshhhhiiiinnnneee for a change 😂
Set of featheredge doubles on 6” posts and a small bespoke panel around the back to provide privacy for the customer where next door have removed a shed leaving a gap in the hedge.
Worked out well 😊

Lovely customer in Trentham wanted a replacement gate for the wrought iron one to give privacy around the brick archway. Gate made and hung to fill the rear of the archway to give maximum access width.
Double keyed throw lock fitted also.

The customer makes natural doggie treats and came out with a bag for Angus who absolutely loves them. What a kind gesture.
We will be buying his treats from her again. I can highly recommend 😊

A near 4 ft wide Featheredge gate with new posts, fittings etc to give privacy and security to customer’s pathway replacing an old 3 ft side gate.
Fitted in the rain that wasn’t forecast 😂

Westbury Park for 2 T&G gates either side of the house.
6 ft side gate, angled post cut on the table saw to produce a perfect fit and a lower bolt for the elderly customer.
On the other side a 4 ft gate with sunken post and hanging post notched around the waste pipe with hinges higher to accommodate this.
Lovely customer who is very pleased good end to a long week 😊

Lovely location in the hills at Boundary nr Cheadle. We’ve replaced some very old and tired rear farm gates at the rear and added a pair of short and long driveway gates to the front for a lovely couple.
This job did throw the kitchen sink at us for various reasons but perseverance was the name of the day 😊

Replacement T&G bow top gate. Has to be outward opening due to the positioning of the walls.

The right hand post in Trentham had to be sunk into the driveway due to neighbours not wanting one attached to their property

This one in Fenton for an old mate and his neighbour.
Two T&G single gates, tricky as the centre concrete post had a 3.5cm lean on it so we needed to make wedge shaped posts.
Additional side panel in featheredge added to cover the bin area of the neighbours.
Got absolutely soaked thanks to the weather 🤦‍♂️😊

4 gates at one house in Mow Cop.
Field gates in the pedestrian gate / larger gate format with black furniture then two smaller slatted gates and a side gate in the same style.
Hidden “gems” at this job required a couple of re-thinks and change of plans but got there in the end.

Nice set of field gates in Boundary nr Cheadle. Supplied by my friends at Timberlink to their usual excellent specifications. Pedestrian access gate for everyday access and larger gate to allow full driveway access. Black furniture which I think looks good.
Also one of my T&G single gates fitted to the side aspect of the house (rubbish picture sorry) outwards opening.

Neighbours next door now want the same and across the road want 2 sets front and back. Going to be a busy month 😊

Little gate today to keep customers doggies safe. Loads of digging and post fitting coming up as we’ve got field gates a plenty to fit.

Side gate fitted in Trentham after a recommendation from a local builder Mark who I have done a few jobs for.
Simple T&G straight top gate with a long throw double keyed gate lock.

Trentham again for a set of replacement gates on a car port.
These are a new design that I’ve been trying and think they look smart.
They are quite hefty with 4”x3” framework and 3”x1” panels. All in treated C24 or PSE timber for quality.

Then Penkhull for a replacement T&G single gate. All usual fittings and new posts etc.

A couple of jobs completed, similar in nature requiring both inwards and outwards opening gates on either side of a property.

Firstly, Tongue and groove gates fitted in Werrington, one with a double throw keyed lock and the second in Trentham for a pair of feather edge gates, one being fitted to a quite narrow space but we've ensured that if needed, wheelie bins will clear the narrow space.

Another nice job completed in Trentham.
Rotten double gates and adjoining single gate needed replacement.

The posts were absolutely fine other than one needing additional fixings where it was a bit loose on the wall.

Customer was offered my own gates and also like for like carpentry shop manufactured gates to be bought in and fitted.

Price wise, mine were 1/2 the price of the others. The customer still gets very strong and well built, thick gates but doesn’t pay the premium of all of the additional work necessary to make the carpentry type gates.

Customer is very happy with the result as am I. Good value for money and gates that are still built to last 👍🏻

Trentham again for these double driveway gates with 6” x 6” redwood posts and additional double key stainless steel throw lock.
These are finished in brown tantalising which I’ve not used previously but looks well against the posts

After over a week of Transit hell and a nice £650 garage bill we finally get going again.

Double driveway gates fitted today in Trentham.
Customer sent a picture of a set of gates they liked but wanted them at 5ft height.

I’ve made my interpretation of said gates but these are built to last.
4”x3” C24 frame, top rail rebated to take 3”x 1” treated PSE panels sitting flush.
3”x 2” ledges and braces and a matching infill panel on the side wall.

Pleased with the result and I’ll offer these as another option to the others that I make.

Very satisfying job today for an elderly lady in Fenton. Everything has been arranged through family
It’s my interpretation on the old Council gate that was in place but rotten.
I’ve kept it at my normal standard of 3” thick by using a 4x3 top rail, rebated to take a 3”x 1” plank with a 3x2 bottom rail and brace.
A gate to last at a very decent price 😊

Today’s job is a classic example as to why it works better for customers to have made to measure gates.
This was a gate and panel. That meant a quite narrow gate opening.
Complete replacement made with a single wide opening strong T&G gate and new 4” posts.

This gate was 114.5 cm wide (try and get that in B&Q)
Great result, happy customers and an all round result 😊

Two jobs completed today in Trentham.
Firstly a bow top side gate to the front of the property and a 4ft picket gate towards the rear of the side to secure the rear for the customer’s dog.

Then a straight top version at the side of a second premises to replace an insecure metal gate.

Two side gates and a panel fitted in Trentham.
The main side had a Featheredge panel that had been chocked in to death due to the concrete post ending up with a 4” lean to it.
Post was perfectly secure just not plumb.
We’ve constructed a bespoke frame with panelling cut to ensure it sits plumb.
Added a T & G gate with the bottom angled to take up a 4” drop over the width of the gate so not to leave a large gap on the right hand side.

Thankfully the other side was straight forward 😊
