Today is World NGO Day
NGO’s or Non-Governmental Organisations help people in need because of poverty, natural disasters or wars but they are not “the government” and are often funded by the generosity of donors and staffed by volunteers.
There are over 10M NGO’s in the world and over 50M people working in the sector.
Today is a day to recognise and support the work of NGO’s. I want to mention a few specifically.
MAF, mission aviation fellowship fly vital supplies into hard to reach areas. Our friends Amanda and Peter Fryatt work for MAF.
International Needs UK. Many friends support this NGO by sponsoring children.
GAIN Global Aid Network who I volunteer with, and Samaritan’s Purse for whom I’m part of the disaster relief roster.
I’ve put links these NGO’s in the comments so you can find more information about them.
NGO’s do a lot of good in the world for which I’m very grateful. 🙂

Happy Shrove Tuesday folks. “Shrove” Tuesday is the day of preparation for Lent which starts tomorrow. It’s a day to forget your diet, eat pancakes and other goodies, and get ready for 40 days of cutting something out, symbolising the time Christ spent in the wilderness preparing for his ministry. It leads up to Easter when the church celebrates Christ’s victory over sin and death through the cross and resurrection. It’s a very important time in the Christian tradition.
