Message from a Young Ref

Dear Managers and Parents,

I'm a young referee now in my 4th season. Every weekend I’m told by managers there is a significant shortage for referees nationwide meaning games are being delayed or rescheduled. I speak to refs and they say, who would want to go into a job where you're insulted, abused and in rare cases assaulted? Unfortunately every referee makes mistakes and we apologise. However, you wouldn't hurl abuse at your players or child if they made a bad pass. Everytime we step onto that pitch we learn just like coaches and players. However, shouting wont change the referees' decision it will just make them think twice about stepping on a pitch again to referee. Leagues across the country are crying for referees. So just think, you are the role model of so many players on the pitch. They will always look up to you, let’s teach them respect which won't just stay on the pitch but they will also take off the pitch.

Just remember- Referees need to learn too!

SDYFL REITERATE THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT PUBLISHING RESULTS IN U7 TO U11 FOOTBALL

Under FA Standard Code of Rules, results of league games from Under 7 to Under 11 are not to be published, this includes no indication / wording of a win or loss , reporting of goal scorers or the number of goals scored.

Young players certainly know when they’ve won and lost but will move on from both results a lot faster than adults do.
This allows coaches and parents to focus on development instead of a league position.
These age groups are the same as any other game, in that they still play with two goals, a ball and a referee. The only difference is that the adult centric view of results over a season has been removed so coaches can instead focus on the children having fun in a safe environment each week.

Collectively, our goal is very simple: to create a player centred environment that every child can love.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all players, coaches, officials, spectators, leagues, club and league officials very best wishes for 21/22 season.

Ridge FC was formed in 2020 by Daniel Bowden. On the 10th July 2021 Dan decided it was no longer for him and left the club.

Ridge FC has a new starting point and July 2021 is a new beginning.

For all of the boy’s and parents the club continues. Our U12 Lions manager Nathan has taken over the main club roles. We have maintained our use of Ridge Arena and will go from strength to strength.

Ridge FC has started it’s new journey and is already making massive steps with FA affiliation for all 4 teams achieved and we are now looking forwards to our 1st ever season playing in the SDYFL. 🔴🔵⚽️
