"A few weeks before the school holidays I dreaded what was to come as my 8 year old daughter was screaming, hitting and kicking whenever she was frustrated, which was becoming a great deal of the day. We had to walk on eggshells around her for hours after these episodes in case it "set her off again", we had also recently received a Senco report advising she had high sensory issues which didn't come as a surprise and had been hindering her ability educationally.
After the first session at Centre Senses we noticed her shouting episodes reduced quite quickly that night and after the second day her sleeping hours increased from her actually wanting to go to sleep earlier. She then was waking up happier, was singing, laughing, joking and more willing to cooperate with us, which hadn't happened in such a long time. She actively sought out games to play with us each night whereas before she would want to watch tv/tablet and ignore us. She now voluntarily holds my hand when we go for a walk (didn't like anything touching her before), her balance seems to have improved with less tripping.
Since we have finished our 10 days with Centre Senses she has continued to improve her behaviour and I have also noticed unexpected things like she is willing to try new foods/experiences without screaming "no" before even trying it, her numbers have mostly been the correct way and not back to front as they were before, she is helping without being asked to or doing things upon the first time of asking, she has been catching up on her most hated school subject with very little fuss each night in preparation for September. Even one of her teachers had noticed she had started to make friends outside of her one or two friends and was willing to try new games which was unheard of with her before as well as happily running into school unaided instead of being escorted by a teacher because she refused to go in.
Rebecca was so patient and completely understood my daughter from the first time we met and as such could intuitively adapt each session for maximum effective results. We all felt we were in a safe and welcoming environment the moment we stepped through the door.
My daughter has said she feels much calmer, happier and is glad she can go to sleep more quickly and not lay in bed bored because she couldn't sleep.
As a parent the sessions have given me a greater understanding and appreciation of the difficulties my daughter has been coping with and thus giving me more patience and a feeling of being in control of helping her navigate situations so they don't escalate. My husband was extremely sceptical about this process but even he agrees it has made a substantial difference to our lives being able to go out without worrying how she will react if there is a change of plans beyond our control.
We are now very excited as to what the future holds for her and her new attitude to life, learning and more. We can't thank Rebecca enough for helping my daughter find this." - A happy parent.

Do you feel like you’re a detective who's always searching for clues?
Some of us, old and young, are like detectives, but it’s our senses that are doing the detecting!
When our senses do this it is called "sensory seeking."
It means they really, really like certain things, like moving around a lot, touching everything, or feeling different textures.
It's like they're always on a mission to find these things because it helps them feel just right.
So, if you see a friend who's always running around or touching everything, they might be a sensory seeker!
Let’s work together to get the sensory support you need - get in touch here: https://centresenses.co.uk/contact-us

Take your scented moisturiser for example, it offers more than just moisturising benefits, it offers you pleasant scents.
For individuals who may struggle with sensory sensitivities, the soothing aroma of scented creams can help create a calming and comforting environment.
Incorporating scented creams into your daily routine can offer a sensory experience that promotes relaxation and wellbeing.
Remember to choose scents that you find enjoyable and uplifting, as this will enhance the therapeutic benefits.

Imagine your body is like a superhero that can sense everything around it.
But sometimes, some superheroes are not as good at sensing things as others.
This is what we call "sensory under-responsivity."
It's like having a superhero who doesn't notice everything happening around them.
So, if there's a really loud noise or a funny smell, they might not react to it like other superheroes would.
It's not because they're not paying attention, it's just that their superhero powers work a little differently.
Contact Centre Senses to find out how we can support you with under-responsivity today - read our top five tips to managing SPD here: https://centresenses.co.uk/blog/f/five-top-tips-to-help-manage-spd
The team at Centre Senses aims to help individuals gain a range of positive benefits or improvements through therapies designed to ease the daily challenges.
Pets and animals have an innate ability to provide comfort and companionship to individuals with sensory needs.
Their gentle presence, unconditional love, and calming demeanour can have a profoundly soothing effect on those struggling with sensory challenges.
Whether it's the rhythmic purring of a cat, the gentle nuzzle of a dog, or the soft feathers of a bird, interactions with pets can offer sensory stimulation in a safe and predictable way.
Additionally, caring for a pet encourages a sense of responsibility and routine.
For many individuals, the bond with their furry friend becomes a source of solace and support in navigating the complexities of sensory processing.

Managing OCD can be upsetting.
Thoughts and fears can trigger uncontrollable stresses to sensory stimuli - and this maybe because it’s hard to process them!
We focus on treating the whole person, adult or child, rather than working with labels.
Each of us needs to rebalance - let Centre Senses help you to re-educate your brain so you can live your best life!

When we experience sensory overload we may retreat - leading to social withdrawal which may lead onto larger feelings of isolation or loneliness.
This can cause more challenges in the long term.
Our goal is to help you develop a range of coping strategies that you can apply to any setting.
Strategies may include some seemingly simple but effective ways to cope, from:
🎼Listening to music
🎥Watching a calming video
📖Reading a book
🤯Problem-solving, or
🥰Positive self-talk practices

Sensory processing disorder - or SPD - relates directly to how we as individuals take in and understand the sensory information that’s around us all the time.
It includes everything that we can taste, hear, see, smell and touch.
But did you know that sensory processing disorder has no single cause?
It’s a complex condition, which means there maybe a range of factors behind it. Including:
🧠Our genetics
🧠Environment
🧠Neurological development, and
🧠Whether we’re premature of how much we weigh at birth.
Many of us, even in adulthood, can struggle to navigate the impacts of SPD.
At Centre Senses we support you on your unique journey. Determining your what’s, when’s and most importantly how’s - so you can work towards managing your sensory requirements with ease.
