Congratulations to Jay Hutchinson on the win at the BOFRA fell race in Cracoe today, a trial race for the Junior Home International mountain running team. Jay also broke the course record so he well deserves the England vest. TA athletes Josh Watson and Evan Lewis had a great race, with Evan narrowly missing 3rd position after a sprint finish. Waiting to hear about Josh's standing as it is likely he may also be selected for the team. What a day for the brilliant TA fell runners!
Last race of the FRA Junior Fell Running Championship 2024 took place in Clwydian hills in Wales today and the Trafford AC athletes have not disappointed. In u13 race Thomas Daly came 2nd, completing a fantastic fell running season. In u17 race Evan Lewis secured 10th position, and in u19 Josh Watson had another good race with 5th. The female athletes also gave strong performances : Rachel Bowden in u17 and Fay Lewis in u19 race with a great debut from Daisy Barlow also u19. Congratulations to all on completing such a demanding series of races.
English Fell Running Champs series has only one more race to go. As the series stands the overall results currently are:
- Thomas Daly 2nd in u13 male cat ;
- Rachel Bowden 13th in u17 female cat ;
- u17 male cat has the impressive two top 3 positions with Jay Hutchinson in 2nd and Evan Lewis in 3rd;
- Fay Lewis 6th in u19 female ;
- Josh Watson 4th in u19 male ;
- Trafford AC club position is currently 5th (with 75 clubs attending for a club based in the middle of a city that is an achievement indeed!).
Well done to all and good luck at the last race of the series to be held in Wales 7th July.
Congratulations to Jay Hutchinson on his win at the Fell Intercounties Championship (u17 cat) in Rossendale today who, along with two GM mates, secured gold for the first team as well. Equally exciting news about Thomas Daly coming 3rd today (u13). The u15 race saw a great run from Adrian White who came 1st but had to accept disqualification due to a kit infringement. Well done to all Trafford AC runners who did well in wet and windy conditions: Benjy Cavanagh, Evan Lewis, Faye Lewis, Rachel Bowden, Luke Carrington, Daniel White and Sebastian White.
Tough, hot conditions didn't stop Trafford AC runners from running an excellent race at the Howgills fell race today (FRA championship match). The results speak for themselves:
U13 boys Thomas Daly 2nd, U17 boys Jay Hutchinson 2nd and Evan Lewis 4th
Strong effort also from the Trafford girls Rachel Bowden and Faye Lewis.
Well done everyone!
Duddon Dash Junior FRA Championships match took place today. As ever, great results for Trafford AC athletes: Thomas Daly 3rd in the u13s race , Jay Hutchinson 3rd and Evan Lewis 4th in the u17s race, and a respectable 18th female position for the one TA female athlete Rachel Bowden in the u17 race. Congratulations !!

English National XC Champs 24/02/2024 now Postponed
Message from the English Nationals Cross Country organising committee from this morning:
We very much regret to announce that despite every effort being made, we are unable to hold the National Championships at Weston Park on Saturday.
Thursday saw torrential rain for many hours, and much of the Park, including parking areas are underwater. Falling on already saturated ground, this made conditions impossible for parking.
We have spent the last 24 hours exploring every possible alternative, but we have not been able to solve the parking issues.
We will now explore all possible options, to hold our Championships at a suitable future date.
We sincerely apologise for all the logistical and financial problems that this will cause both clubs and individuals.
Further announcements will be made as soon as we can do so with any certainty.
MACCL, regretfully, has to make this XC season a four-match one with Match Five (due to be held on 2nd March) now cancelled. Therefore, the season will end with last weekend’s match at Kenworthy Woods. Individual and team results will be based on 3 out of four matches.
