Tony Elliott, Transport Planning Senior Supervisor has recently passed his level 3 (UK) Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). The course which took two weeks and was administered by Tyneside Training Services, reinforces all of the legalities and requirements of the operator licensing system.

Tony said, “The industry that we work in is rightly, heavily regulated so we must ensure our operations run in line with certain laws. I thoroughly enjoyed the course; it reinforced what we are already doing in terms of requirements of the Traffic Commissioner in the areas we operate and I look forward to putting further learning into practice.”

Congratulations to Paul Davison, who has worked in many facilities within the business and is currently based with our Hillthorn Business Park Logistics Processing Centre in Washington.

Congratulations also, to our colleagues based in our operations at our client partner site uk, on achieving their 25-year service too; Bryan Taylor, Mark Simpson, Paul Sykes and Kevin Shepherd.

They all received gift vouchers and a thank you for their contribution over the years from our MD kendall.

We are delighted to have recently been awarded Overall Best Performing Supplier for 2023 by our partner Komatsu Europe.

This is the first time a service partner has received this award, which is a great testament to the work of our teams based at, and supporting Komatsu UK.

We have developed a strong working relationship over the past 16 years and look forward to working with Komatsu well into the future.

Our MD Martin Kendall and Diane Elgar, Head of HR, Training, Innovation and Quality were delighted to present £4000 towards STEM learning to Washington Academy after winning two awards at the North East Automotive Alliance .

Vantec won the Digital Transformation Award, with Martin winning the Outstanding Contribution Award at the event.

We are proud to champion education, learning and skills and look forward to developing a collaborative partnership with the school going forward.

Today we commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

It's all about positivity and Sunflowers 🌻

As part of Earth Week, our teams in Winsford and Crewe have decided to hold a Sunflower🌻growing competition.

Using the kitting exercise to demonstrate the difference between a batching process and a one-piece flow. By creating a balanced production line using three operators, they achieved a reduction in cycle time from 69 seconds to 54 seconds per kit. This was a saving of 28 minutes overall!

🌻Eight facts about sunflowers:

1️⃣ They are considered a positive flower, associated with sunshine, they convey emotions including happiness, warmth, luck, adoration and friendship 🤝

2️⃣ The entirety of the sunflower plant is edible, so the leaves, seeds, stalks, and roots could all be used as food. Including flour and cooking oil.

3️⃣ Not only do they resemble miniature suns, as young plants they follow the sun across the sky as it moves from east to west during the day, and move back to their ordinal position at night.

4️⃣ When fully gown they stay facing east to attract 🐝bees and other pollinators.

5️⃣ They clean the world by absorbing toxins (they’re ‘hyperaccumulators’) including metals and radiation. After Chernobyl and Fukushima, the flowers were planted in their millions to help the land recover.

6️⃣ Each flowerhead is made up of up to two thousand florets. These tiny flowers are packed full of nectar, making them a great treat for pollinators 🦋

7️⃣ There are 70 different species in the Helianthus family, all of which are native to North and Central America. Alongside the traditional yellow sunflower, there are also red and white varieties.

8️⃣ They can get very tall! On average between six to 10 feet, the tallest recorded was in Germany at 30 feet!

With a whopping 109 kits requested, we’ll be keeping an eye out for the tallest sunflower and biggest flower head in the summer. 🌞🌻

Our colleagues in Crewe and Winsford celebrated with action by carrying out litter picks in local areas. 🍃🚯

This week we took part in Bentley Motors Innovation Day.

The event gave us a platform to showcase some of our digital and innovative projects including:

🚍 V-CAL (autonomous HGV) teleops rig - where the next phase will run up to four zero-emission autonomous HGVs between Vantec and Nissan sites, on private roads where the vehicles will navigate traffic lights, roundabouts, and other road users. The HGVs will operate without any personnel on board but will be monitored by a remote safety driver as backup.

💡 Vantec Interactive Experience (VIE) - which uses the latest in gamification design elements for training to improve business outcomes. With State-of-the-art 360-degree and 270-degree interactive immersive suites providing multi-sensory learning. And a forklift truck (FLT) chassis simulator situated within a fully replicated 3D warehouse.

🛜Digital Transformation (DX) - spearheading widespread digitalisation through data and digital competencies, IoT, process mining and data factory analysis. With key performance indicators focusing on delivering engineered bespoke solutions for the business and client partners. Including designing and developing in-house software systems to ensure seamless digital integration across departments, including Safety; Finance; IT; eLearning; HR and Training and Quality.

Rachel and Olga from our Transport Department, attended the Women in Logistics event in Northhampton this week.

This year's topic was 'Collaboration for Success', and they had a valuable and inspiring day.

They said: "The event was pretty amazing, we both gained a lot of valuable insight on supply chain efficiency and sustainability, as well as looking at career growth and skills to attract a diverse range of talent in the industry.

"We also met other logistics and transport professionals, helping to increase our network and partnerships.

"We really enjoyed it!"

🐩Unexpected new company mascot 🐩

Our colleagues based in Crewe had a surprise visit when this lost pooch managed to clock in and make its way across the site into their office!

Without a security pass (ID collar) and after being temporarily nicknamed 'Vantec', he was taken off to the vet in the hope he was chipped. And although he did have a chip, it was unfortunately unregistered. 🥲

But our colleague Natalia, being the dog lover that she is, took him home whilst trying to find his owner.

Through great detective skills 🕵️‍♀️ and the power of social media, there was a happy ending as 'Fluffy', as is his real name, was reunited with his owner 💞
