WWIN Specialist Domestic Abuse Services
WWIN currently operate refuge and outreach services across Wearside, supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
WWIN Specialist Domestic Abuse Services are an independent, community charity based in Washington, Sunderland & Coalfields - Supporting communities to live free from domestic abuse.
Our DART group was looking at feelings today. We created volcanos to show what happens when anger builds up. We look forward to the next group, where we’ll be exploring how we can cope with our difficult emotions and making some stress balls!🌋
DART is a 10-week group, for children and their mothers who have experienced domestic abuse. The group gives children and their mothers an opportunity to talk to each other about domestic abuse, learn to communicate and rebuild their relationship. Please in touch with us, if you’d like to attend future DART groups
Happy Halloween from all of us at WWIN 🎃🕷🧙♀️
We have had a spooktacular week so far with lots of fun and frights!

A very informative piece from ITV news, which we were honored to be involved with. This really highlights the prevalence and severity of coercive control.
If you're affected by coercive control, you can call WWIN on 0800 066 5555 or access our web-chat here: wwin.org.uk

Our statement on the recent right-wing extremism in Sunderland:
Our teams at WWIN Specialist Domestic Abuse services in Sunderland have been supporting women, children and families in the aftermath of the horrific racist and Islamophobic violence in the city last weekend. Racist and Islamophobic incidents have continued, targeting victims and survivors who have already been traumatised by male violence. We expect reports of domestic abuse to increase as those feeling emboldened and empowered by their own, or by watching others’, behaviour at the weekend will not stop at the front door.
Our thoughts are still with the three young girls who were murdered in Southport last Monday. Elsie Dot, Bebe and Alice should be here today. Our thoughts are with them, their families and all those who knew them.
That this racist violence has followed those horrific murders, is of further distress to our team and the survivors we support. We are appalled that their murders, and more widely the abuse and sexual assault of women and girls, has been used to justify racist and Islamophobic violence. It is incomprehensible that any of these actions could be deemed as a result of caring about the safety of women and children as some have claimed.
We are also heartened to see the amazing response of the majority of people of Sunderland, community groups and volunteers, all standing together against such extremism. Sunderland has long been a port City that has welcomed and travelled to all parts of the world and this racist and Islamophobic violence is not representative of the people who support us and all we do at WWIN. We will continue to ensure WWIN is a safe place for survivors in Sunderland, where all survivors are welcome. We have more in common than that which divides us. We will get through this stronger, together.

All of us at WWIN have been deeply affected by the events in Southport and our thoughts are with the families of the girls and those who knew them. We have joined Women's Aid and our sister organisations to issue this letter to the government calling for urgent action to tackle violence against women and girls.
Elsie Dot, Bebe, and Alice should be here today.
We need action against men's violence now.
Women's Aid and 76 member organisations issue joint letter to the Home Secretary following the Southport attack demanding it be seen as part of the wider epidemic of violence against women and girls plaguing the country - Women’s Aid Women's Aid and 76 member organisation issue joint letter to the Home Secretary following the Southport attack.
