We’re on the lookout for a Senior Sous Chef to join our kitchen team at The Roker Hotel, Sunderland’s premium 4* seafront hotel. The Roker Hotel hosts a wide range of weddings and functions, but also operates a bar, restaurant and tearoom in its specific venues.

Working closely with our fantastic Head Chef, you’ll be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, supervising and assisting chefs and helping to manage the culinary team. You’ll also function as the senior chef in charge of banqueting operations for the Hotel.

Some lovely views over the Roker pier this morning as the waves crash down, but did you know; you can frequently spot dolphins from The Roker Hotel? 🐬

We’re fortunate enough to have a few pods of dolphins that swim up and down the coast during the Summer months, and one of the spots they like to play is between the two piers! As you can see the water is nice and calm between the piers and sometimes they’ll have swam from as far as Amble or Scarborough, so that combined with our harbour being filled with mackerel must make it a nice little haven for them!

They’re unpredictable, notoriously hard to track and in rough weather harder to see, but they’ve gained so much of a following that there’s various Facebook spotting groups tracking where they are. When you do get the joy of watching a pod play in the waves for 20 minutes though, it’s a beautiful sight, and one we’re very lucky to have regularly from our Hotel. Check out the photo we managed to capture last Summer one afternoon!
