We’re coming to the end of week 2 of Veganuary and it’s been great to see so many exciting vegan options in mainstream cafes, pubs and restaurants across the land! 🥳 And the supermarket shelves are brimming with new vegan products too, making being vegan easier than ever before. Soup of the Week: Roast Cauliflower. Get it in a deal with one of our sandwich wraps for only £7.50!! Next month there will be a tiny price increase in some areas so that we can continue to pay ourselves a wage 😂

This week loads of Sunderland businesses have special promotions and events going on ahead of Small Business Saturday! It’s the best time of year to show your support to your local small businesses. We really do appreciate every last one of you and simply would not be here without you. ❤️

So to celebrate and to give you wonderful lot something back we’re holding a raffle at the end of the week to win an amazing goody bag! One of our Good Apple cafe totes will be filled to the brim with vegan goodies including an advent calendar, gift voucher, selection of vegan snacks and even a cuddly toy! 🤩

✨Every customer who spends over £5 on will be entered into the draw.
✨You can better your chances of winning by buying extra tickets at £1 each. These are on sale all week, including on Saturday. Every ticket sale will go into our fund. A much needed respite to those who need it, especially at this time of year.

Well it’s been a funny old week..
Positive:
Suella has gone (although I’m well aware the other T% #¥s are still there) 😂

Negatives:
The world continues to go to s**t. 🖤
Another beloved family pet has gone to the kitty heaven in the sky. 😢💔
And it’s also been the quietest we’ve seen in the cafe for a while. 🍂

But ever the optimist, I’m sure we’ll weather the storm in our small part of the world (There are some things we can’t control and it’s hopeless to spend all your emotional energy on it.)

Crazily, we are fast approaching the holiday season (How?!)
There are lots of exciting things going on in the city centre and we’ll soon be joining loads of other small businesses to promote . It’s a well used adage, that if you don’t use it you’ll lose it. Pretty sure they were referring to your mind, but it’s never been more appropriate than ever to apply it to our small independent businesses. 💪

Finally and more importantly, here’s a few titbits of what we’ve been dishing up this week! We’ve got a few big chunks of snickers cake left. Also another choccie cake to replace that once it’s all gone, fear not! 😋

Hey all,

A day late but a big Happy World Vegan month to you all. 💚💚💚

So, this November, to celebrate World Vegan Month, we have joined Humane Society International UK’s “EatKind in Restaurants” campaign to help make a bigger impact for animals.
We are donating 10% from every item purchased from our Weekly Specials board to who work to tackle animal cruelty in all its forms. From rescuing cats and dogs trapped in Asian meat trades, to campaigning to end the worst abuses to farmed animals, and much more.
So, even more reason to pop down to your friendly neighbourhood vegan cafe, bring your friends and help HSI’s incredible work to stop animal cruelty.

We’ll also be making some HSI cookies some time next week, of which half the proceeds will also go to the charity.

Have been feeling overwhelmed and deeply affected after receiving this card from one of our lovely regulars this week, who will sadly be moving away soon..

I’m sure she won’t mind me sharing her words as it’s made me feel so proud of our little team for regularly showing kindness and openness to our customers - even when they may not feel like it. (We’re all just humans after all)

Sometimes I’d wonder if what we do makes any difference to anyone at all, a tiny little inconsequential cafe. Just going through the motions and doing our daily and weekly routines. We just about make ends meet and sometimes question if all the hard work is worth it.

Then you receive something like this and the answer is right there, loud and clear.

You never know what personal issues someone else is going through, just a kind word or a little chat can mean so much to someone and brighten their whole day.

This lovely lady is thanking us for being there, but I’d like to return the thanks for reminding me that we are relevant.

I’ve always believed that local cafes provide more than just somewhere to get a coffee or bite to eat. They can be a lifeline too. It’s never been more important to support all of your small local independent cafes, coffee shops and businesses; they really are a vital part of our community. 🥺❤️

It’s been a busy week.. I’m ready to go for a lie down now but it’s not even the weekend yet.

A beautiful matcha and raspberry cake here, matcha’s not to everyone’s taste but I love it! 🌱
