No appointment necessary

From today, anyone aged 50 years old (as of 31.3.23) is eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine, regardless of medical or vulnerability status. Please come see us at your earliest convenience to get protected from flu. No appointment necessary. We are open 8am-6.30pm.

We will also be open until 9.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (17th,18th,19th October) to make the service more accessible to everyone, especially to folks who can’t attend during normal opening times as they are at work etc…

We have also been providing numerous off-site flu clinics for staff in schools, care homes and local businesses. If you would like to know more about this service please get in touch.

Flu clinic update

We will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week (27th-29th) until 8pm for anyone needing their annual flu vaccine. No appointment necessary.

From October 15th, ANYONE aged 50 or over (as of 31st March 2023) will be entitled to a free NHS flu vaccine. We will be Putting on some weekend and evening sessions after this date to allow maximum uptake. More details to follow.

We will be open until 9.30pm today, tomorrow and overmorrow (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) for flu vaccinations. It is a walk-in service; no appointment necessary.

We will also be open this Saturday 10am-2pm.

Customers are welcome to pop in for their flu vaccine during normal opening hours too (mon-fri 8am-6.30pm).

We are currently open providing NHS and Private flu vaccinations. We close at 2pm. If you have not had your vaccine, and have some spare time, come see us. No appointment necessary.

Further flu clinics will be provided 6.30pm-9.30pm Tuesday - Thursday this week.

King Charles has announced that Monday 19th September 2022 will be regarded as a Bank Holiday. This day is for our late Queen’s funeral. In line with this, we will be closed as a sign of respect and to allow our staff time to reflect and celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

We will be sending all deliveries due on Monday tomorrow. Normal service will resume 8am on Tuesday 20th September.

FLU UPDATE

On Friday 9th September, we will close at 11am and reopen at 2pm. This is to allow staff members to attend a funeral for one of the team who sadly passed away 2 weeks ago.

Colin Richings was one of our delivery drivers and had been with Gilbody Pharmacy for 2 years. He was a very well liked member of Team Gilbody, an extremely hard-working and caring person, a proud father and devoted husband. He was a rock for the team during our difficult times through covid-19, and for me personally, was always someone I could turn to whenever I needed anything doing. Colin will indeed be sorely missed.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. All other Community Pharmacies in the area will be open as normal in case you have an emergency.

Happy 12 Years to us!!!

The computer software we use, and completely rely on, went down nationally leaving us with the inability to label anything or check the NHS system for most of Friday (It came back online at around 5pm). Staff have been in all weekend trying to get us back uptodate.

It is never our intention to delay providing our customers with a Pharmacy service so please accept our apologies if you was affected by this.

This year marks 12 years of Gilbody Pharmacy - What a journey!
However it is with a heavy heart I inform you that as of close of business on Friday (1 April 2022) I will no longer be the Owner and Manager of Gilbody Pharmacy.

It has been an amazing (although exhausting) 12 years. I had the idea for the pharmacy just before my first child was born and it was a dream come true when it finally opened on 21 June 2010. I was so proud to open a Pharmacy in the community in which my dad was born and grew up - I feel I have really given it my all, and the Pharmacy has become one of the busiest dispensing Pharmacies in the UK. That success, however comes at a price. I have missed so much of my 4 children growing up. They have only ever known Daddy as a workaholic, and there comes a point at which the work / life balance must change in their favour. I feel I have missed out on so much of their early years already, I can't miss out on any more.

It certainly hasn’t been an easy decision to reach. I love being a Pharmacist and it has been an absolute pleasure to be your local pharmacist for all these years. We often say customers make our job what it is and I want to thank you for all for your support and loyalty over the years! I consider you all an extended member of the Team Gilbody Family!

Finally to my staff. I have worked with some of you for 25 years and have the pleasure to call you all my friends.
You and your hard work have made the pharmacy what it is today and I’m truly thankful for all your support and dedication. Winning UK Pharmacy Team of the Year last year was so important after the challenging Covid times we faced together. You have all been amazing, and I will miss you all dearly. You’ve made making this decision so much harder but I really need to give some time to my family and focus on a more sustainable work / life balance. Make sure you look after each other! 💙💚

My final thanks must go to my wife, Jessica. She is the reason why I can do what I do. She gave up a successful career to raise our children whilst I was at work, and what a tremendous job she does. The sacrifices she made for me and the kids are so appreciated. I will do my very best to not get under your feet... 🙂

So, I wish you all the very best. I know you are in safe hands with the new owners, who I'm sure will introduce themselves on here in the next few days.

As per the UKHSA Infection Control Guidance, face coverings must still be used in a Community Pharmacy. This applies to anyone entering the premises. If you forget your mask please ask one of the team for a free mask. Medically exempt customers, please continue to wait at the dispensary hatch. We still ask that no more than 6 customers wait in the Pharmacy at any one time.

CHRISTMAS UPDATE

We will be closed on official bank holidays (mon 27th, Tues 28th, Mon 3rd). Opening times remain the same otherwise.

We are experiencing extremely crazy numbers of phone calls and this will get worse as we build up to Christmas. The phones only allow 4 people to queue so if the phones don’t seem to connect, they are working, it’s just crazy busy. Please do ring back later. If you prefer send us an email [email protected]

Common questions we are getting:

Do you have any lateral flow tests?

Answer: The media have yet again (just like when petrol went mad) created unnecessary unrest. On Monday we gave out over 100 kits and ran out whereas usually it would be 10-30 per day. This has created a supply issue but I am informed that normal supplies should be available from Monday. Please do not stockpile and until supplies return to normal we will only allow 1 box of 7 tests per person.

What if my delivery of medication is due on a bank holiday?

Answer: we are planning on sending deliveries due on Monday 27th on Monday 20th, deliveries due on Tuesday 28th on Tuesday 21st, and deliveries due on Monday 3rd January on Thursday/Friday 30th/31st.

What if my repeat medication is due for collection over the festive period?

Answer: As it stands we are working a few days in hand. Please do not panic - we are working hard to get all prescriptions done timely. Coming in too early creates a bottle neck so please come in on the normal due date or the day before if it falls on a bank holiday.

Are you doing booster covid jabs?

Answer: no. We feel there is sufficient supply in the locality and wont be doing this currently. If this changes we will advertise and inform all customers accordingly.

I still haven’t had my flu jab? Have you got any left?

Answer: yes. Plenty. Please come as soon as possible. No appointment needed.

What are the current face mask rules at gilbody pharmacy?

Answer: the same as it’s been for the last 2 years. Do not enter the pharmacy without a face mask. If you are exempt from wearing a mask please ring the bell and we will serve through the hatch. Exempt people are the most vulnerable so please do not put yourself at unnecessary risk. A lanyard stating you are exempt will not protect you from covid. If you don’t agree with this or your personal view goes against current regulations, that’s great and your view is respected. However, please follow the rules I have implemented to keep you and my staff as safe as possible.

FLU VACCINES

We are really pleased with the uptake of flu vaccines this year. To date we have delivered just shy of 2,500 flu vaccines at Gilbody Pharmacy of which, over 2,000 were for eligible NHS patients.

We still have the under 65 years vaccine in stock and on Tuesday we will be receiving further over 65 vaccines. If you or someone you know are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine and are still unvaccinated, don’t delay. Come and see us. NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY.

If you do not qualify for a free NHS flu vaccine, we are still providing a private service. Again, no appointment necessary.
