Float to Live helps save man at Mumbles Lighthouse | RNLI On Sunday (11 August) as a sunny weekend drew to a close, off-duty RNLI crew member Bob Morgan noticed somebody stuck on the Lighthouse island (the outer of two islands off Mumbles Head). Sensing something was about to happen, Bob alerted the rest of the station crew by sending them a WhatsApp.

We are often called to reports of paddleboarders in difficulty. We want everyone to enjoy their visit to the coast safely which is why the RNLI has been working with HM Coastguard and Paddle UK this summer to share our five key safety tips for when you head out on a paddleboard, kayak or canoe:

🌊Carry a mobile phone

🌊Check the weather

🌊Know your limits

Person swept out to sea off Mumbles Lighthouse after attempting to swim back to shore. Casualty adopted the Float to Live position and awaited help.

Do not attempt to swim the sound from the Lighthouse and Middle Island. The tide moves extremely fast. Please wait and contact the coastguard.

RNLI volunteers across the country participated in a special photo moment
– One Moment for One Crew – to create a photographic record of those involved with the lifesaving charity in this, its 200th anniversary year.

The charity, which was founded in 1824, asked its volunteers and staff from around the UK and Ireland to take a photo of themselves as close to the 01st August 18:24 as possible.

The Mumbles Lifeboat Singers were entertaining passers by at the Mumbles Lifeboat station yesterday evening.

The next dates for the Mumbles Lifeboat Singers are:

Sat. 17th August at 1330hrs.
The Mumbles ALB will also be in attendance.

Launched to commence search for two missing divers in Oxwich location. Divers found safe and well, ALB stood down.

Two persons on a paddle board reported missing at Oxwich Bay. Search commenced but subsequently stood down by HMCG.

Medical / Stretcher evacuation from Doctors Mine.
Casualty Recovered to shore.

Four persons trapped on the Middle Island.
Recovered to Pier beach and handed over to HM Coastguard - Mumbles.

Please be aware of the tide times before crossing to the Middle and Lighthouse islands. The tide comes in quickly and the risk of being cut-off is high.

Two shouts in an hour for new Mumbles Helm | RNLI On Monday 29 July, the crew responded to a medical evacuation in Swansea Bay. A Casualty sustained a possible spinal injury on an RIB and was evacuated onto Mumbles ILB Slipway, where medical care was given by the Lifeboat Crew and Mumbles Coastguard.

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day.

If you are dipping or open water swimming, here are some top tips:

✍️ Be prepared.

🌊 Check the weather and tides and choose your spot.

👬 Go with a buddy, have the right equipment.

🙅‍♀️ If in doubt, don’t go out.

🚶‍♂️ If a swim doesn’t feel right there is no shame in getting out of the water straight away, or not entering.

❄️ Make sure you acclimatise to avoid cold water shock.

🔴 Be seen. Wear a bright coloured swim hat and take a tow float.

Call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard in an emergency.

Well done to Ride 4 Haydn who are cycling the entire coast of Wales and on to New Brighton to raise funds for the RNLI in memory of their friend Haydn Grififths.
