Climb for Health

We aim to show people that no matter how hard it is.

We’re all about helping people find an alternative to traditional physical therapies and encourage them to take on climbing and enjoy making new friends whilst exercising mind and body.

Going back slowly but surely 12/05/2021

Going back slowly but surely By Ysabelle Antuña Let's talk about going back to the sport we were learning to love or already loved: climbing, either bouldering or sport climbing. It has been almost a whole month since the indoor climbing walls opened up again here in England. And while it has been exhilarating going back to th...

Mysteries of Indoor Climbing: Endurance Circuits 15/12/2020

Endurance circuits are designed to train your ability to climb consistently throughout all moves until an exercise is completed. So, if you feel like doing it, select a level, watch your feet, keep your body low, extend your arms, and do not rush it. Here goes an example of how to approach an endurance circuit.

Mysteries of Indoor Climbing: Endurance Circuits Indoor climbing facilities may not always be quite alike. It is astonishing how creative route designers are. No matter how little space there might be, challenging routes could be set up. One of the tiniest bouldering gyms I have ever seen is located in Chisinau, Moldova. Despite the challenges, tw...

Quick tuition on balance followed by my favourite foot swapping technique

Where there's a will, there's a way Burgas, Bulgaria. Summertime. Wrong, it's autumn. Sports are on . Still. Kitesurfing, go to the the beach. Windsurfing, go to the beach. Swimming and again, go the beach. Running, go to the beach. Yoga, on the beach. Cycling; yes, indeed, alongside the beach. Walking, the beach. Always. Once it snow...

Covid and I: Bouldering on city breaks 06/09/2020

Covid and I: Bouldering on city breaks I do remember that 3rd of August over a year ago when I suddenly found a lump in my breast and my world broke to pieces. Since it was Friday and I could not do anything over the weekend, I fixed myself a cup of tea. I enjoyed my cup of tea, calmed down, and got my climbing bag ready for a weekend in...

Everything is figureoutable 12/08/2020

From Niels Bohr to Muhammad Ali.
Mostly with Alexa Antuña's help.

Everything is figureoutable COVID is a major impediment to climbing and bouldering outside our social bubbles. With social distancing now fully implemented into our lives, it seems nearly impossible to carry on our mentoring sessions. Or so we thought. I have a favourite quote. Actually, I have two favourite quotes although Ni...

How did it all start? I am often asked how the Climb for Health project started. I have extensively elaborated on the how in my posts as well as in the web content. Now, I would like to tell you the why. Interestingly enough, the why appears not to be climbing-related at all, although it is about reaching high altitudes....

It has been a while It has been a while since we last conducted a Climb for Health session and I last published a post. Why Everyone You Know Is Suddenly Rock Climbing 30/01/2020

Alex Honnold about outdoors climbing: “It's cold, it's windy, it starts to rain. No matter how big your ego is, no matter how many people have told you that you're the man, as soon as it starts to rain, you're getting cold and wet.”

Why Everyone You Know Is Suddenly Rock Climbing Thanks to our culture's obsession with Instagrammable experiences and self-optimization—and thanks to the success of Free Solo and its star Alex Honnold—rock climbing has become the communal sport of 2020.

Lead climbing five weeks after breast cancer surgery 28/01/2020

As soon as we realised how beneficial climbing was, we detected an opportunity to raise awareness about cancer and mental health as well as help people get through it without losing their hope, motivation, and confidence. It is hard, very hard, to keep going without getting lost. Physical exercises are good, however, it is hard to keep your motivation up if you feel alone.

Climbing is an amazing activity. It helps both clear the mind and strengthen the body and vice versa! We would like to introduce women to climbing as a nice alternative to traditional physical therapies and encourage them to take on climbing and enjoy making new friends whilst exercising mind and body.

This project is focused on helping anyone approach climbing and enjoy it. We are not climbing instructors but really want to encourage you to give it a go.

Now, if you would like to do so, here is a site that will help you get started www.climbforhealth.rocks

Climbing? Give it a go with … a free mentoring session! 18/01/2020

Sarah Hughes and I are excited to announce a new initiative in partnership with Rockstar Climbing Centre, Swindon!

Am I expected to climb like a movie star? 21/11/2019

It is remarkable how consistent Hollywood movie makers are when it comes to misrepresenting climbing scenes. One would certainly expect better from them. It should not be a challenge to get it all right with a quick five-hour ride North into the Yosemite Valley. California is, after all, the right place to find expert advice from experienced climbers. Something that movie makers all along seem to ignore.

Am I expected to climb like a movie star? Fortunately, for your sake and everyone else’s you are not. It is remarkable how consistent Hollywood movie makers are when it comes to misrepresenting climbing

Dear Cancer
Thank you for trying to become an important part of my life. I truly appreciate the effort and I am very sorry to say that you are not welcome in my life nor anyone else’s for that matter.

We have been fighting, you and I, for nearly four months now scoring Maria 2 - Cancer 0. Please forgive my competitiveness.

The final battle is just round the corner. It is going to take some time, all my hair, good part of my weight, and anyone’s patience but not my attitude.
I know how overwhelmingly powerful you are and do not pretend I can prevent you form getting into our lives. As annoying though as I can be, I shall endeavour to make it as difficult for you as I can.

I am really sorry to break it to you, but ladies do not give up. During these last four months I learnt how to deal with you and, as motivated as I am, I am fundraising to get more women into successfully beating you.

Please allow me to say one last thing. Should you like to know how I intend on doing so, please see below. It is laid out in my campaign.

What do standard climbing outfits look like? 18/11/2019

A couple of months ago while bouldering indoors in my club in Swindon, I came across two young lads sporting apparently expensive fingerless gloves. To my amazement, they jumped onto the bouldering wall with their gloves on. It is good practice to assess fellow climbers' performance and suggest any possibilities for improvement. I suggested that they should consider taking their gloves off, which they did and as a result improved their bouldering straightaway.

What do standard climbing outfits look like? Murky, often muddy. A couple of months ago while bouldering indoors in my club in Swindon, I came across two young lads sporting apparently expensive fingerless

I would like to give it a go. How do I get started? 18/11/2019

Sport climbing may sound like a crazy thing to do and there is no doubt that it takes courage. It is however the best crazy thing that one could do. Most importantly, it is not too complicated to get started with.

I would like to give it a go. How do I get started? Congratulations! You have just made one of the best decisions a lady beating breast cancer may ever make. Now, please hold the idea and let me help you turn it
